  1. GP1 2013 model or FD3 is best for daily use with low maintenance cost and what would be the most reliable out of these two?

Well two ways to look at this - GP1 (had one for 3 years) : Great little car that is very versatile and useful. Does a bit better on fuel than FD3. Avoid oil burn-affected cars you're good to go. BUT on the other hand FD3 is more mature been there and probably have the battery issues sorted out by now. Other than the battery issues there are no specific horror stories - and it definitely has better road presence and handling dynamics than the GP1 ...as long as you find a well maintained car I guess you'll be good to go. Of course 2007/8 ones are now 12-13 years old so some age will show.

@Dee Jay & @matroska thanks for your inputs. I'm going to looking to these cars in coming weeks :) hopefully i'll find a good condition car with service records.

  2. Ok. I think i need to make up my mind and settle on something pretty soon. Even Wife wants me to upgrade my ride ?

@Magnum i was told that FD4 is not the JDM version as well. i drove a fd4 today and compared to my City manual vtec car it has a bit of low pulling power. but i think i can live with it. but the case is having low fuel consumption. Now im kinda into gp 1 as well :D

@PerfMad How many km a month do you usually run? Decision between FD3 and FD1/FD4 is a lot dependent on that. @Dee Jay has explained the basics about FD3 above. And I have to say it surely does a lot more than 9kmpl in long drives. My experience with it over 125000km, it did 9-12kmpl in colombo traffic, 13-18 long distance depending on traffic flow, and 22kmpl on highway. The car has no issues with power as long as the hybrid battery is good. Its 1300cc engine outputs 90hp and the electric motor 20. So altogether 110 hp which I would say is on par with Allion/Premio/Corolla segment. Except you have a lot of torque and initial pick up thanks to the electric motor.

That being said, you should only get the FD3 if you run 1500km+ a month, to really profit from it being a hybrid if thats your aim. If you dont run as much, just go for FD4 or a well maintained FD1. FD3 is the worst car to have parked around - primary cause of battery failure. It's a good work horse and a high mile runner. I didnt have issues selling it but I sold it for less than I brought it from. If you are getting one, you need to either get one with a good hybrid battery, or buy one with a drained battery for less and replace it with a good battery. Running the car on a new hybrid battery hasa day night difference in performance.

@ramishkad thanks for your input. Im currently doing around 1000-1500 per month (not more than that) as of now.

If I break it down, i would roughly do around 400-500km in city and rest is mostly highway runs.

  3. Every time I see a well maintained pristine looking w124.. I fall in love with it over and over again..?
I wouldn't mind adding a petrol version to my future collection as well :D

  4. This is totally fine. You should be aware only if this light turns red that means your vehicle is overheating. Other than that, you are good to go.
  5. one of my friend bought e46 for like 2 year ago and so far he has spent over 300k in repairs. He have rebuilt the engine as well since these N series engines starts burning oil every 100k most of the time (in my aspect this is a money pit, unless you don't concern about it very much. Interior bits cracks and melts down if you park it under hot sun for long hours. If it's me i would not spend that much on a car for just putting 20-30k kms on the clock which is not worthy at all.
  6. I don't think it can be repaired. Clean it and see whether it will resolve the issue. If not replace it since you have already found the issue by scanning.
  7. hmmm usually Honda engines are is bit noisy (I have noticed this on citys , ek3s, and even in FD models). But you won't hear it much when you get into the cabin and close the doors. If you need a bit smooth sounding engine, go for the next model which is known as fitaria.
  8. Corona Corona go away.. You are making my restoration so delayed.. ?

  9. Mine is a manual and does around 11in city and 15+ outstation. If you keep a soft foot of course..
  10. yes if crack position sensor is week or not working this has issues with starting and continuous driving for a long time. Car may die time to time. But mostly if crank position sensor is not working it will light up check engine light. but better get it checked (also try and see whether you can by pass the immobilizer to start the car)
  11. Isn't there anyway to bypass the immobilizer ?
  12. Hi guys I need help with finding few windscreen molding clips for my merc w124. Without the clip they cant start final painting coat to start the assembling process. 14. Hi @GL86, I've heard the same issue from a friend of mine who owns a 141. The issue is AC comp. of this car is pretty expensive and parts are bit rare. So one of the AC shops have suggested him to change the unit with a 121 model which has plenty of parts and repair cost after wards also very minimum. Since he doesn't drive the car very often he haven't done any repair yet. but even i would think doing such conversion properly will save you heaps of money in future maintenance .. just an opinion you could check this possibility with your mechanics as well
  15. Couldn't start my car for almost 2-3 weeks since i wasn't at home.. However, i got a chance to start it yesterday and i let it idle for 10 mins after starting. Car started at first attempt and cold start idle was at the correct RPM as well. After about 10 minutes rpm started to fluctuate 1000-2000 .. but when i keep the throttle steady to 2000 or more it doesnt do it. it only happens in idle. before quarantine there was no such issue.

could this be a clogged IACV, throttle body? what should i look into? have my ECo test pending so i have to attend to this within next week and get it sorted by any means.

You're welcome to bring the car over to my place of course, no worries... But I'm sure you can rev it out just as well as I can! ?

lol yeah.. actually i had a carb cleaner bottle around. so i cleaned the throttle body and didnt have time to clean the injectors. therefore i did good 2-3 pulls in second gear with 7000 rpm and now all idle issues are gone and its back to normal :D

  16. Personally i would love to have a k20 with a custom turbo kit if you are willing to spend 1mil just for the performance. But keep in mind that it will need alot of fabrication and change of existing parts. if you are going ahead with this, better have a specialist do the job. Otherwise you'll not only waste ur money but a reliable car as well.
  17. Eitherway you have to get it approved from RMV which of course going to be a pain in the A**. I remember what presea lover had to go through just to update his vehicle colour in the book.
  18. interesting topic..
  19. My initial thought was to finish the restoration process by end of April. Due to CORONA, it seems like this will drag up until July (atleast), because by end of April rain season will start. Too bad i have to wait longer to get things done.hmmm

  20. I second it. I also live close by so have gone to him for couple of small repairs. However, patience is something you should have cz he is always overloaded. Since mine were smaller once i stayed and got those done within couple of hours. If not i can give you a contact no who does only kia repairs (which my brother-in-law goes to ) for his sorento related repairs. He never goes to anyone else. This mechanic seems to have all the stuff with him as well.
  21. Sorry mate can't recommend any since you never know who is genuine and who isn't.
  22. check whether oil is dripping from oil sump. it could be the sump oil seal which has worn out.
  23. interested topic. Did you manage to find anyone?
