  1. Mazda Wankel engine is troublesome and getting specialists to maintain could be a issue. On the matter of fuel just calculate and see what the annual/ monthly cost would be it may be a difference of few thousands. I know of people who bought cars looking at kmpl and run less than 400-500 km month.
  2. The fact that you are asking if it is ok to buy in a forum is that you don't know what you are getting in to. I know of few petrol heads who daily run and maintain BMWs Mercs of older vintage. But they put in lot of love and time to their cars. They know about cars and maintain them personally or through reliable specialists. Get down parts from US/UK/Singapore/Germany (new/ used) which saves a lot. There are enthusiast you will meet and help you once you get in to this. Some times you will have to wait couple of weeks for parts to arrive. Used Euros are best bang for bucks and will give you lot of enjoyment and pain If you are ok for this sort of thing go and get the car if not go and get a Corolla / Allion/ Lancer
  3. Yep every one got in to 141 bandwagon
  4. Lancer EX was sold in numbers because it was offered 6 months before the Toyota Corolla 141 when the permits were reissued in 2007. This was the only available Sedan Option which was available in numbers (Civic FD had a 20 units per month quota and the waiting list was over 6 months. Permits had a brand new policy so no Allions/ Premios Few were bought for the looks / none for performance as it was a pretty average vehicle. I've had a 2008 1.5L EX and a 2007 1.2L Swift (with a CVT) Swift was more fun to drive. EX was more comfortable
  5. It is possible as far as i know, your CR will indicate both colours.
  6. That is a 100 there are quite a few 80s and i have even seen a 90
  7. Ford Focus/ VW Passat/ Audi A4 (may be bit old)
  8. At least you were lucky to have at least one option. I cant match my fronts and rears with the same brand/ type as they are not freely available (different width and profile). Will have to specially order and get them down. Thank goodness they have few years of meat left in them.
  9. There is approximately 1/2 inch difference in the profile of you new tire. This will lower the ride height by 1/2 inch and also gearing and speedo by 4-5%. Your rims may not be wide enough to accommodate the extra width and might have uneven ware long term. New ones with 45 profile will be significantly expensive than the original size. My recommendation is to stick to original or change the tires and rims with bigger size OEM or at least with the same diameter / circumference. Bridgestone has 3-4 types on your size price starting around Rs. 30K, so does Dunlop
  10. Get a used Picanto for less than Rs. 3.0 Mn. highest grade with ABS you will get 3 around years of warranty left from 5 years. It will not loose much from Rs. 3.0 Mn. Or get the Swift RS will be difficult to find one for less than Rs. 4.0 Mn. though Buy the Vitz it will be the safer choice. Trouble free A-B appliance.
  11. by the way did you read the disclaimer of the DMT screen
  12. It is not the higher tax but the basis and lack of consistency that is creating issues. For instance it is better to buy a 1.5L Merc C200 than a 1.6L Toyota Corolla as the tax is less on the Merc. (This was before implementing luxury tax which has created another set of anomalies) One can imagine special tax on electric or hybrids for economy (not the Porsche Tycan and La Ferrari) to promote green motoring. A simple tax based on the price bracket would have worked much better and fair for everyone. If you want to promote fuel economy best is to tax fuel which will compel high users to switch for more economical vehicles.
  13. Wonder it matters much as the key for the Wagon R, Swift or Vitara for that matter is same. I guess it is same with other brands as well
  14. This is wishful thinking of vehicle traders They may do this to increase tax revenue by increasing imports of vehicles as this has been the trend in the past, however with reserves we have and depleted inflow of foreign exchange I don't think we can afford it at this moment. May be this will be touched at the next budget.
  15. BMW X3 Diesel is ridiculously economical if you you don't mind used.
  16. Hope you have deep pockets. You may be able to do the cosmetics. Mechanics and electronics will be a nightmare. This is the one which put the last nail in the coffin of BL/Rover or what ever it was called at the time.
  17. In my 2013 they changed it every 20K km as i remember and did not cost that much. Less than Rs. 5-6K as i remember.
  18. Well my Lancer EX 2008 had exactly same issue, car was getting heated at heavy traffic. Faulty high speed in the radiator cooling fan (it had two speeds and only the lower speed was working) It was replaced under warrenty
  19. All this is until the engine start and warm up after that they all run at the same temperature whether in Siberia, Colombo or Sahara. Engine temperature is maintained consistent by the cooling system and any modern car will take precautionary measures if they exceed tolerance levels. Warnings/ Limping mode/ Engine stop. I still cannot fathom all this fuss as our conditions are not harsh as we seems to think and most of the issues with oils are lower temperatures not the higher. Modern cars are equipped to handle higher temperatures (most of the turbos have oil coolers). Besides we change oil unnecessary @ 5-6K where as manufactures recommend two to three times the mileage. I have yet to come across or heard of a vehicle which had premature engine ware or sludge after using manufactures recommended oil and intervals. 0W-20, 5W-20 (20 oils) are recommended to meet emissions and fuel economy as these are the criteria on which cars are taxed in developed countries. SAE 20W is a mono grade for use in winter or extreme cold conditions. See below for Toyota Corolla Sport in USA (this is for 1.8L normally aspirated)
  20. These are things that one should consider before getting in to the bandwagon. Most of the have not clue on what it takes to maintain a Euro. Soon we will have a whole heap of Audis serviced by wayside garages/services and when the issues come prices will crash loosing million for even who brought brand new and services with the agent. One need to understand that if you rely don't know your self what is happening better let the experts handle them. This is the cost of ownership of a Euro. And if you want one best options in my view is Buy from agent and maintain with them (for rich) Buy used (from 1st owner above) with full service history (wise choice as you will not hit by the initial depreciation Tsunami) Gray import maintained with the agent (those who are adventures, wants useless options and wants to save few bucks from the initial price. I don't believe there will be a overall saving during full cost of ownership) Gray import maintained by morons (those who wants to be sitting Ducks) Agent option is now open for Audi and i believe it is the way to go.
  21. Agents import the same vehicle, they should know what is best.
  22. Go for the Axio Toyota what you are looking for will be used by average John, maintained at service down the road with counterfeit parts, would have run to the moon and back but will have only 80K km or so on the clock. (These Toyota never seems to exceed 100K). On the other hand Mazda would most probably used by a person who is passionate about motoring. There are plenty of decent ones with full service history and with lot of TLC. Vios is not a upgrade from EG8 (best Civic to date in my view) Due to the perceive negatives you should be able to get a better deal on the Mazda, buy cheap / sell cheap
  23. Map data will not update, navigation will not work, hopefully you should be able to go to other menus. i.e. Radio/ SD card/ Music/ settings etc..
