  1. In that case machang i'd say vote for the same 3rd time. Trick is to keep voting them for things to happen.....
  2. GTAm you are spot on about the Chinese strategy. To further elaborate, Chinese simply approve loans for projects on terms and conditions that any other sane financial institute or organization would simply refuse. They simply cater to the whims of corrupt, narrow minded rulers who are after cheap publicity (including our very own). Oh and the name of the port you are looking for is Colombo South Port/Terminal. Talking about the other white elephant projects, has anyone used the new airport in Matthala? I sincerely hope it won’t turn into like the Ciudad Real airport in Spain which was featured in Topgear. Atleast the Spanish can blame it on the economy. What is our excuse?

    Electric Cars

Don't misinterpret this post as a 'low blow', i thought what makes RX8 so special is its unique wankel engine. Won't taking that out (assuming it'll be completely swapped with the electric drivetrain) simply makes the car just another shell???
  4. Huh!! highways/expressways are making money???? Last time i checked they cost a ton of money to build which was borrowed at a commercial interest rate. i seriously doubt they end up making any money directly specially when taking into account future repair bills due to sub standard building practices. Saying that they are a great and much needed addition to aging local infrastructure.
  5. But machang they finished the war no.... what more do we need
  6. Here's some inspiration for you. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2458550/British-traveller-24-spends-125k-the-youngest-person-visit-country-world.html
  7. You are spot on about the SL passport situation. Did you guys see that article where SL passport is in to top 10 worst list. We are grouped among some of the notoriously lawless countries like Somalia, Afghanistan, Iraq etc. Dili, i say take about a month off and do all 6 countries (Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos and Myanmar). Write a book/blog or make a mini documentary and mention it in your resume. These sudda buggers will dig that sh*t up during job interviews. If you are looking for a more comfortable trip why not the west coast of good ol US of A. Highway 1 is a mighty fine route to take. As per my buddy, same guy who was on the bicycle trip, travelling in developing countries are always much more 'adventurous' and will leave you with many many stories to reminisce at the latter stages of your like. Now that i come to think about it, it'll be a great opportunity for you to imitate your AutoLanka idol (one and only) Sylvi in the future lol....
  8. Did both of these individuals die from the same accident? I thought Rukamni Devi got into an accident in a Mitsubishi Delica hence the phrase Rukmani model Delica.
  9. Dili, What about a one way overland riding trip starting from Singapore all the way to Myanmar or Laos or Cambodia and then take a flight back and get your bike shipped over. This way you may be able to cover a greater portion of the far east. A friend of mine was on a two week bicycle tour from Cambodia to Thailand (he started near the border) and mainly stuck to rural roads (i mean off of highways). He said the experience was insane and so were the pictures.
  10. Isn't there a remotely possible this is someone who has a 10mil budget and his only requirement is the ability to haul 4 people and some decent luggage space. Since every kolla and balla is using 5s these days maybe the Harrier can upgraded to jungi n' lunket dropper category lol. We should have a cool wall in Autolanak and the highest category should be the jungi/lunket dropper class. Anyway on a different note, Any ideas if the CLA will be offered by D*MO for the permit? That's one good looking car and its cheaper than the regular C.

    Suzuki Drz400S

Dili, solely out of curiosity what made you choose a dirt bike over a sports one or some other category of a bike?
  12. I think Mr. Jonny here has completely missed the plot. The whole point of the blue permit is for people who go abroad temporary, make some money, come home and settle down. Its not a scheme to be used to send cheap vehicles to your parents/relatives.

    Fm Modulators

This chipping the receiver thingamajig has been around for some time. I remember A*vance advertising about it way back even before they became a superstar in the industry.

    406 Coupe

Is this the same infamous G*lden K*y Kav*n pere*a you are reering to Harsha?
  15. If you are referring to tier rotation, i do believe it should be part of routine maintenance. What do you guys think about regularly servicing the breaks? i.e. clean break dust and lubricate slider pins etc.
  16. But is French an official language in Vietnam? or is it been widely used by the locals?
  17. Good luck seen any results after making a complaint against the said organization. This is peanuts compared to the stunts they've been pulling in the local financial industry. Best option is to educate ourselves and the others like crosswind has mentioned.
  18. Dili, you have completely missed the point on this. Think of the inconvenience of an unreliable car. I don't read up about cars as much as you boys do but read ANY review about the Vouge and the biggest negative is its unreliability. Imagine one fine day you start up the car to take it for a spin and the dam thing spits out an error or a warning. There goes your lovely evening. Worst off what if it happens in the middle of a road trip? More than the cost of the repair its the inconvenience that the issue here. You are a smart guy i'm sure i don't have to refresh your memory on the total cost of ownership vs the initial cost of the car. Didn't you recently buy a very expensive road bicycle, i'm sure you didn't walk in to a store and said give me a black one with red stripes.
  19. Gummy, what's the maintenance schedule for a Vogue? fluid/filter change frequency? Also what are your thoughts on using a Battery tender/charger when the car is not in use to keep the battery at optimal level. Heard battery drain is a common problem on cars with tons of electronic gizmos.
  20. GTAm which minister was this? Amunugama? I saw few of them present at the launch in pics.
  21. Here a great article about this illegal venture. http://www.thesundayleader.lk/2013/02/24/billion-rupee-vehicle-import-fraud-continues/
  22. Hmmm..... http://forum.autolanka.com/topic/10890-question-about-well-water/ I guess basic financial knowledge/experience/skills are too much to ask form a bunch of ‘petrol heads’ compared to knowledge/know-how on construction, water supplies etc.
  23. That quote got a funny/stupid story written all over it. Care to elaborate MD
  24. Dude seriously, as per your theory the government is trying to control the use of a certain types of an automobile (a type that is very popular and servers as a main income source for many) to curb crime? Is it just me or does that sound just plain stupid. Now that I think of it the way the country is run I won’t be surprised if that was the reason behind the policy change. You know what they say, this is a land like no other. Getting back to the point, the main reason behind increasing the import duties on three wheelers, motor bicycles and small cars is because the government is so cash strapped they want to increase the taxes on popular items/goods that are been imported to the country to boost revenue. Same reason why prices of basic food items are on the rise.
  25. Watchman you have a valid point. As you’ve mentioned a higher import duty is set on diesel vehicles to discourage them from been imported. But this is where the contradiction begins, if the government genuinely want to stick to their policy they should have banned import of diesels under car permits. These car permits have now become a loop hole in importing diesel vehicles to the country. When you take in to account the sheer number of permits that has been issued and will be in the future, Gummy’s point hold some value and so does the Robin Hood theory.
