  1. My Allion had a set of maxxis ma-p1's put in by the previous owner. They looked indestructible and I never got close to the limits of grip, mostly thanks to the dead steering feel of the Allion. What I didn't like was the tyre noise. at over 50 it was pretty audible. at 70 I could swear the Noah with its Michelins was quieter. Ever since then I've been obsessed with quiet tyres. Machan get into tyre shops and ask them to show you the price catalogues. 25% off that is ok. 33% off is good. You can go even lower and that's what you should aim for. I'm getting a set of Pirelli P4s for the Noah soon. Toyota Lanka offered a 25% discount. I'm getting them through the local tyre shop. Going to see how low I can go Also build a good relationship with your neighbourhood tyre shop. When you got several vehicles at home that sort of thing goes a long way.
  2. Good stuff man! How was it as an everyday car?
  3. Certain colours are highly sought after. like black dark red and champagne gold. But in reality its very hard to convince the buyer to pay a premium just because its the right colour when you are a private seller selling just one car at a time. Like Miniace said don't worry about it cos you just bought the car. plus its a vitz and not a bmw. Cars at this end of the market are chosen with funky colours. So when you advertise it someone will come running to you because they are specifically looking for a vitz in that colour.
  4. While I was converting my Noah it sat on the same place for weeks. When I got it out of the garage I took it for a wash before applying the undercoat. After it was applied I got in it and tried to drive home and the wheels seem to be locked. turned out because that the drums have gotten wet and they were locked full on after I got back to the garage and left the handbrakes on. I had to dismantle everything and replaces lots of parts like springs shoes (the braking surface had come of when I tried to drive off). My mechanic said it happened because the vehicle was in the same place for a long time. It still doesn't make much sense to me. But I guess having the handbrake engaged had a big effect on it. I mean I didn't have a problem when I replaced the axles later with ones that remained unused for months, maybe years.
  5. Geez! If everybody started writing about how they were inconvened at some garage like this we'd have nothing else to read about. No, I do understand the importance of time and money and would be just as angered. But I'd just go there and raise hell. Not start a new thread about it and waste everyone's time.
  6. I don't really see any problems with the korean indonesian or brazilian tyres compared to japanese ones cos they've gotten really good over the years. Anyway this is how I normally hunt for tyres. I walk into shops find out which tyres come in the size I want, come home and do some research on the net about each tyre. tyretest.com and tirerack.com have some good reviews. could be difficult to find reviews for southasian made tyres. but google and see. I found plenty of results all the tyres I looked at so far. except landsail cos its relatively new I guess. Be aware of the tyre height when reading reviews. passenger tyres have a tendency of getting softer thus more prone to silly punctures as they get taller.
  7. Finally took some pics of the new wheel/wheel nut combo. this one's for schiffer http://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/s720x720/547659_10150974555916259_403905687_n.jpg

  8. Ever wondered where the prius drivers came from?
  9. If your car has efi and you do somehow manage to connect the pump to the system then you'll get exactly the same performance
  10. The load rating recommended by the manufacturer for a 4wd Noah is 91. The michelins were 95. The vehicles weighs 1.6 tonnes. So seems about right. what about yokos and dunlops? any comments on them? @Amila G Thanks dude. was considering turanza's big time. how's the road noise and durability?
  11. And you think bullsh*t threads like this is helping the car market in any way? Wish someone would take this down cos the sellers whose stock arrived just after the tax hike are really struggling. Oh! and if the prices were ever to come down it won't be for another 2-3 years so end it there.
  12. Ideally yes. But that's not your biggest issue. You'll need a new engine management system to deliver more fuel, be it in piggyback or standalone form. So unless you are doing some pretty serious mods don't bother.
  13. Guys I'm looking for a set of tyres for the Noah. The size is 195/70/14. I'm currently running michelin xm1s. but they haven't taken the abuse well. chunks of rubber are falling off the tread and it wore out faster than any tyre I've used before. But when they were ok they were very very comfortable and even at 70 I could barely hear any road noise. So that's my basic criteria. comfort, low tyre noise and durability. Don't wanna go back to michelin after seeing the drama this set put up. I'm currently looking at Bridgestone turanzas and goodyear duraplus. How do they perform? Any other recommendations? Wouldn't mind switching to 15's if there are good touring tyres you guys can recommend in that range. Thanks
  14. Just got a set of blue anodized wheel nuts by mail. looks great on the dark grey alloys of the insight.

  15. Axio GTs have the same 1nz engine with a trd turbo bolted on in some models Obviously the corolla gt is quicker as its lighter but i personally I prefer the carina gt with its smart Peugeot 405-esque body
  16. Seen a few 110 GT's around the country. pretty hard to spot them unless you really pay attention. Even more discreet than the Carina GTs. All of them were auto I think As for the Axio GT, seen a few of those too. The turbo model is very rare so I doubt we have any of them in our country. With our motorists mentality who would buy a manual axio?
  17. Makes me wonder what they'll do to the next allion/premio that's due next year. Either way they'll sell by the million.
  18. My advice is don't try out new posh looking garages especially when it comes to bodywork just because you got a new car and stuff. stick to the guy you always went to or your parents went to. The other thing is these people can smell accountants from a mile. So if you look like that type they might try to play you cos most of them can't tell the difference between a good job and a bad one.
  19. I'm assuming this is a "molli" engine. We had the same problem in our old 2C-III. apparently it was with the vacuum pump (the molli part). We had some part inside it machined and the noise went away. my dad said it can only be done once and when the noise comes back it needs to be replaced. This was also when the engine had clocked 200k km. Can't remember much cos I was small back then. So it could be the same issue. get it checked with a good toyota mechanic who knows his way around old 2C engines.
  20. I totally agree with supra and harshan. The cars old, its not worth much, the cost of conversion is relatively massive, and resale value will go down further. BUT the thing about some european cars, namely volvo, is sometimes they use Jap gearboxes. like Aisin. I don't know about the gearbox in your car, but there's a chance it might be compatible with a jap engine. Its still quite a bit of work finding a match even if its compatible. If you find an engine with a mechanical pump you'll be able to keep most of the electronics unchanged. heck you might even find an automatic box that's similar. not trying to send you on a wild goose chase. just saying there's a possibility.
  21. If it's just a few hundred bucks and its made for cars our people will put up any gay-a$$ piece of cheap sh*t on their rides. Grow up people! get some light weight rims or a suspension kit. There's more to life than coupla LEDs and chrome plated plastics.
  22. If you still haven't found a set try U_&_H malay street. they carry lots of hard to find sizes and if they don't have it in stock they can get it down in like 10 days.
  23. The color perhaps? bleah!
  24. What bothers me is was he not buckled up, i mean to end up end in that position? Well it could have been after the seat belts burnt through. but if he was indeed buckled up why couldn't such a fit person walk away after an accident like that?
  25. that radiator support panel looks a lot like a vitz's. So it can't be an indica
