  1. Afaik, windscreen beadings aren't really model-specific. You might be able to find it at LP Gunaratne, near Fire Brigade in Darley Road. Take a sample with you.
  2. Components for Kelisa (as in most of the other Perodua models) are made in Malaysia using Daihatsu's moulds and presses. It's done under license from Daihatsu.
  3. I owned a Mini in the past and I really loved that car, but I wouldn't recommend it for a guy who doesn't know much about cars. That's not because there's anything wrong with Minis, but if you are not too careful in inspecting a Mini, you might end up in trouble. On top of it, maintenance is not really cheap. There are only a few mechanics in Sri Lanka who can repair Minis. If you don't know much about a Mini, they will take u for a nice ride.
  4. If you can't afford the Helly HANSEN Limited Edition Escudo, you just might be able to get hold of a Helly HANSAN one for cheaper!
  5. Dunno about u but I've seen plenty of both advertised for sale. For some weird reason, Maruti owners seem to think that their second hand car can be sold for a higher price than a brand new one On the other hand, Viva owners appeared to quote more reasonable prices. No idea what the final sale prices for these cars were, but the fact that it is a carbon copy of Dai would be a huge ego boost for the Viva.
  6. List is now updated. Thanks guys! And no.. I'm pretty sure this is definitely not advertising. So chilax!
  7. If you want something 'cool', I too, would suggest a VW beetle. U can get a really well maintained one for that budget. If you don't mind driving a very boring, ugly but a very reliable and economical car, I would suggest a Corolla DX wagon (KE72). U might even find a diesel converted one within your budget and your wallet will be happy. Another option you got is Lancer Box Model. If you go to Ratnapura area, u might be able to find a well maintained car within your budget. Especially the one with the Orion engine just keeps running and running and running.
  8. I've used Exide (about 3), Dagenite (once) and President (once) batteries in the past and I'm also using Exide at present (in both my cars). I'm perfectly happy with all the Exides I had. On the other hand, the President battery I used didn't last too long (didn't even last as long as the cheap Dagenite). I bought it at a time when there was a massive marketing campaign for the brand and I was sorely disappointed. Anyone like to clarify why Exide is bad and President is good?
  9. I didn't prepare the list and I dont think I have the patience to check each agent's phone number. If you have the time, why don't u contribute by posting the contact details? No idea but I heard they offer a merc. If u got time to check with them, please update this post. If you know the details like prices, please add them and I'll try to update the list. That will be more helpful to others.
  10. Just got a list compiled by a couple of friends and thought I'll post it for the benefit of AL members. Disclaimer: 1. This is NOT a complete list. There are many vehicles missing from this list. Example: Mercs, Perodua, Maruti etc. 2. Please do not ask the prices of cars which are not in the list. Sorry I will not be able to help you. 3. This information is merely indicative, as told over the phone by respective agents. There may be errors in this list. Neither Autolanka nor I am responsible for any inaccuracy. Please contact the agents yourself for up to date information. Contact details of agents are given below by Nirosha (Thanks dude!). Keep scrolling to find them Mods- feel free to remove this post if it violates forum rules. BTW, if you notice any error or like to add any information, please feel free to add a reply and I'll update the list. Hope this is helpful for members. Cheers! 11. Personally I don't think both are good choices. If you don't mind me asking, what's your budget? I dropped by the Proton showroom last week and saw the new Gen2 sedan available for permit for less than 2.1million drive away price. That might be a reasonable low budget option. (I do have a vested interest on Protons since I drive one )
  12. Mr Asgi Akberally - Vice President - Merc Club Mr Bri Ponnambalam - Secretary - Merc Club Mr Sidath Fernando - Committee Member - Merc Club Mr Nigel Austin - Committee Member - Merc Club Dr.Harsha Cabral - Committee Member - Merc Club Finally, Merc agent in Sri Lanka and sponsor for the Merc Club = Tata Nano agent in Sri Lanka. and finally, finally; One of the people above is a Director of the company that imports Nanos (check cse.lk if u think I'm lying) and god knows who else are the shareholders of that company DO you notice a trend here? Don't u think that is also a silly marketing gimmick by the agent??? Maybe the Nanos was bought by these gentlemen for peanuts (or maybe even for free) to give to their domestic helpers
  13. Indian Nano - 2 cylinder 600CC engine, hydraulic brakes, wheelbase 2230mm, mechanical power steering, no airbag, no crumple zone ~$2000 price tag European Nano (Nano Europa) - 3 cylinder 900CC, ABS brakes, wheelbase 2280mm, electric power steering, airbags, crumple zone, ~$6000 price tag (Source: wikipedia, autocar magazine and autoblog.com) The crash test for Nano is done at 56km/h with 40% offset. That's because the car is in the 'quadricycle' category. If u claim it's a good indication of safety of nano, why don't u try driving one head-on to a brick wall at about 80km/h? We have had trolls from car importers posting marketing messages in this forum. That is why we are usually arrogant at any posting that 'lauds' any vehicle without a reason, especially 'lauds' a pile of junk like Nano. My apologies if you are not that. However, you need to get your facts straight about the Indian and the so-called export version of the Nano. Finally, we've had enough of the crappy maruti and three-wheelers on sri lankan roads. Hope we don't see many nanos to add to our misery.
  14. Just read this in Wikipedia... " .. the top end variant of Honda City (in India) offers some additional features like Alloy Wheels, Seat Back Pocket, Silver Colored Inner Door Handle, Fog Lamps, Stylish Exhaust Pipe.".... Is that what they call a "top end" car in India????

  15. When cars grow older, they tend to migrate far from colombo... generally they migrate back to colombo for restoration work.
  16. Price sounds tempting for a 406 (even for a D8). 1.8 version is a bit underpowered though. Get the suspension and the gearbox (if it is auto tranny) checked from a garage which specializes in pugs. These repairs can be costly. If they are ok, then I think its worth the money.
  17. That's interesting. You should definitely stick to what the user manual says. My knowledge in Indian cars is a few years old and from what I knew, even octane 90 is a luxury in India. Perhaps things have changed or perhaps the export market vehicles are installed with a different engine (Indian made Swift is exported to many countries). In any case, thanks for the clarification.
  18. There is a 1972 Corona Mk II in the classifieds if u are interested. Seems to be pretty well restored though. http://www.autolanka.com/ad.asp?ID=47907 If you are looking for a project car, the best way to do it is to go hunting for one as far away from Colombo as possible.
  19. If you are looking for spares for a pug, I would suggest ebay as well.
  20. Here are a few pros and cons I can think of, for a Cefiro as a daily runner. Pros: Looks luxurious, cops will think twice about stopping it, u can find a really well maintained one (especially if it is really the first owner) cos el cheapos wont buy unreg Cefiros. Cons: Fuel consumption (not a problem for u), hard to maneuver in Colombo traffic, parts might be a bit dearer.
  21. Yup. Must be an open-source bus
  22. As far as I know, its super diesel. Hyundai Lanka normally pastes a sticker on the windscreen if the SUV needs super diesel. Check with them anyway.
  23. Why don't you two get a room (or even better, get in to the backseat of your Prius) and do ur love talks with each other, instead of polluting this forum?
  24. You are a bit lazy aren't you? Call Senok and ask for the prices. http://www.senoksl.com/automobiles.html If you read the clauses in your permit, it says up to one-year old used (recon) cars can be imported. This means virtually any car which falls within $25,000 limit and the engine capacity limit. You can talk to importers of recon cars to find out what they can bring down. Alternatively, U can also go to UK, buy a 1-year old car and bring it down yourself (which is what one of my friends did. He claimed it's cheaper that way).
  25. First up, you shouldn't be pumping 95 petrol to an Indian Swift. Most of the cars to the Indian market are designed for low octane petrol so use 90 instead. If I'm not mistaken, the recommended engine oil for Maruti Swift is 20W40 not 5W30 or 10W30. 5W and 10W cold start viscosity engine oils are suitable for cold climates not the Sri Lankan climate. Please check with your user manual or check with the agent. But I really doubt if that is the cause of your problem. Did u change your driving style after the first 5000km or so? That could also affect the change in fuel consumption.
