  1. Look, it happened to me in the past. Sometimes, the engine cranked slowly for about 2 or 3 times and the car started. It happened despite the time of the day. Sometimes the car started fine. The electrical guy in the neighborhood took the starter motor out and checked. He found that the bushes surrounding the pinion is worn out (or wearing out). When that happens the engine cranks slowly but doesnt give a tak sound. After replacing the bush, I never faced the problem again. Get it checked. Shouldn't cost you more than 1000. Do post the results here.
  2. Did you get the starter motor serviced?
  3. maybe a 'cousin'... or maybe the 'ayya' in his village
  4. Gift permit imports are economical if you send a car which is 9-10 years old. Otherwise they are not. BTW I heard there's some issue with the diesel in Sri Lanka and Xtrail engines. Not sure exactly what it is. Pls do a search/ask someone or ask A*W.
  5. Machan Califorh*kan, how much is the high quality international fantastic garage paying u to do 'kadey yaama' for them? Or are you doing it for free again? BTW could you also let us know how much it costs to get a hybrid serviced from this high-quality international-standard fantastic garage? That information will be very useful for the hybrid owners in AL.
  6. This thread should be titled "STUPID CAR BUYERS" I don't see any point in taking the odo reading of a car seriously. Is it conclusive that a car that has done 10,000km, in a better condition than a car which has done 50,000km? There are more important things to check in a car than the odometer.
  7. No you can't. The same RFID will not work here.
  8. Mitsubishi Magna, Mitsubishi Diamante or Alfa 164. Magna and Diamantes are 3500 CC V6s and Alfa 164 is 3000CC v6. Easily available within that budget and beats the sh*t out of Cefiros and Accords when it comes to high fuel consumption
  9. Interesting. Now everybody is claiming they are the first people to open hybrid service centres Let's see - Ma*ara Gar*ge, Ar*bian M*tors, Some bloke in Marawila... I wonder how the charges are going to be, if suddas have to come in all the way from Singapore and hold press conferences in five star hotels, just to open a garage
  10. I'm guessing Triumph TR7. Could be wrong though. That signal light looks out of place.
  11. bug fiat
  12. :D You are ryt mate! ... the bloody hideous threewheelers that we used to see on the road. Many of them seemed to have died now. Over to u
  13. Here's a bit of a twist
  14. Peugeot 203
  15. oh sweet. now we have an admirer for dilku.
  16. Ah! our resident Indian car fan. R u sure Indian Alto doesn't give 25 to the litre?
  17. Haha dude, this is what happens when idiots listen to sales pitches and actually believe them! I vaguely remember someone claiming that a 660CC turbo can do 15km/l and overtake a 1500CC car easily!
  18. What kind of cranking do u get from the engine? Does it crank very slowly and eventually start after a few attempts? What's the car? Is you car a manual tranny? If so, next time before you start, shift the gear to third or 4th and rock the car back and forth. Shift back to neutral and hit the ignition. If it starts without any problem, likely culprit is the starter motor. As for the battery, ask any battery shop to check it. They also can check the starter motor and alternator. Those are simple things you can do before you move on to other diagnostics.
  19. Made in India Ford Fiesta (Made in Thailand) is pretty good in terms of options and looks.
  20. This one http://www.picturexone.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/funny_toyota_camry_bike.jpg
  21. Battery? Starter motor? clogged petrol lines?
  22. in case of the sportage, one part of the sunroof opens. but you are right, it spans the whole roof (almost) http://www.kiasportagenewmarket.com/images/panoramic-sunroof.jpg
  23. subaru legacy?
  24. Recently I saw a 2007 Geely with a sunroof. All the beadings have melted away and the sunroof was sealed off with silicone and duct tape to keep the car from becoming a bucket
  25. Advantages of having panoramic sunroof - neighbor envy, showing off, when u want to sell off the sportage you can add a premium to the price Disadvantages: Lets in heat, lets in dust, lets in all the debris including kos polos, rubber seals/beadings can get damaged over time, electric opening mechanism may add to your maintenance cost, can also cause water leakage depending on the quality of rubber they use (will take a few years to see the signs), you will have to make an extra effort to keep it clean. Verdict - depends on what you are going to use the sportage for. 1. if you plan to have fun with it, go to nuwara eliya often with your head out of the car and run the car to the ground, get the sunroof version (basically if you got too much money and not worried about petrol and resale and all that). 2. if you are planning to make a profit out of the car after 3 years and if your sole aim is that, then get the sunroof but never open it outdoors. if you plan to keep it parked for 3 years with the sole aim of making a buck like many permit people do, yeah sunroof can add a premium (depends on your sales pitch and the car prices at that time). 3. if you plan to use it as a normal car, drive around in colombo and keep it neat and tidy, you are better off without the sunroof
