Speed guns was in use from 1970 early part in Srilanka this was tested by a appointed authority and had a report from said person at that time the speed checking meters what the Police department imported was correct. No one will be able to contest that report. I do not know that present speed guns had same certificate by a appointed authority. Any how if Police is issuing a different ticket for an offence what a driver had not committed it is left to that driver to contest his case in court of law. I only mentioned my experience how today Police officers do their duty.Police can turn and twist the law to their side. Few days back a Police officer told me that when they are in full uniform thy can do as they like. I find one member says Srilanka speed limit is 72Km. He may be correct then Speeding Driver getting a ticket for a different offense which he has not commited any Driver can complain to higher authority. As this above member said act by Police officer issuing a different ticket instead of over speeding is violation of human wrights for an offense driver which he had not done. We may be having numberof Professional Lawyers in our forum any one can advise to the forum for this speed issue. My Posts may be of no interest to one party and wrong to others I do not write any thing did not happen in the past. I do not write out of the point. THIS MATTER IS A LEGAL MATTER NOT RELATED TO MOTOR VEHICLES FORUM BUT STILL MOTORISTS CAN COMMENT. Two or three Forum members who will have time can go to DIG Traffic Mr, Lucky Peris and get his answer for the speeding rule is the best we all can do as IG is not holding any meetings WITH PUBLIC till the Elections are over. That was officially announced few days ago. Not only that the parking on Colombo Galle Road specially on Saturday and Sunday is also have to be verified as not much of traffic on those days on Galle Road and Duplication Road (R.A.De.Mel Mawatha) Most develop countries relax parking laws on traffic less days holidays and on Saturdays Sundays. Almost all traffic Police men are inexperienced and they do not Know how to address the Drivers. If a person drive with a different dress like a sarong that person is called in different language. I have seen Traffic Constable got one bus driver down from the driving seat of the bus he was driving few years ago and slapped him on his face on Galle road near Bambalapitiya Junction opposite IC Drug Store that Police men is still working on Bambalapitiya Station as a Traffic controller on the Galle Road. I had a experience about two years ago transporting one wooden Cupboard from Jaela and near Liberty Plaza three Police men had taken from the driver of the lorry Rupees 500.00 as a Bribe to release the Vehicle. I immediately complained to DIG trafic of the bribe taken by the Constables When I visited the place on the instructions of then DIG Traffic to make my complain to get the numbers of the three Policemen who took the bribe of Rupees 500.00 one Police man called me Uncle. Most Traffic Police men are working to their Whims and Fancy's and Rupees and Cents. I leave to Forum members to decide for necessary steps on legal matters of road users. Wijesinghe.

    Dear list member, My advise is to buy a gasoline engine 20- and fix a diesel engine. I had 20-0418 and 20-4455 which i sold for 100.65 thousand and 300.85 thousand both was my direct imports. I found last one at a finance company yard for non payment monthly payment for 6 months and that was finally sold to a bakery in Malabe. Still you will be able to get Nissan or a Toyota (VUJC22) or (CR27) under 60000.00 rupees and fix a diesel engine with another 20000,00 Rupees. I find all problems and usage details and advise given are correct in the past who had used Nissan and Toyota Gasoline and Diesel vans to this list for your question. They have written their experince is totally correct. Electricity board was to first get Nissan small vans they had lot of problems with the front suspension later in Japan this was corrected As i allays use gasoline vehicles. Go ahead as you wish.   8. To all list members, My Experience in Chinese build Vehicle. I purchased a Chana Gasoline 1300cc Wan from M/s, "Wasana" Trades Walisara about 3 years ago new 11 with seats registered as Duel purpose for Rupees: 1.35M. As I wanted to try out a Chinese build Vehicle cost was very cheap comparing to Japanese same class Vehicle. The Vehicle I chose was a white color one which had on mileage meter 780 Kms. I think this vehicle was used as a demonstration Vehicle in Srilanka. more than one year ago imported at the time I purchased. First of all there was few problems on the Vehicle which I noticed although it was new. I did not care for those as I my self attended for all that. I in my life had used Vehicles Made in UK, USA Germany France and Czechoslovakia. Longest used was a (SKODA) CN seris from 1960 to 1980. Which I did more 300000 Miles all over the country. Thereafter all Japanese Vehicles as free imports was allowed. Chana and Micro I examined before I went into Chinese new 11 with seats Duel purpose for 1.35M. Micro van was a smaller van and it was little cheaper than Chinese Van. Chana had more seating arrangement (Space) longer Vehicle and the original Suzuki Gypsy Engine made in China. Fitted in with EFI. Bosch ECU and same censers. Chinese build electrical units Alternator Starter motor Wiper motor.Duel AC unit. No power steering. Few changes were done to the van as I wanted to use same as a passenger van 6Ply Tires to 4 Ply Tires. Front suspension Coil spring to a smaller diameter one and removed two helper springs from the rear both sides as this was a double cab GVW of 1000KG's converted to a Passenger van in China removed one rear seat to be a 8 seat's. For more leg space. Alternator burnt off at 14000KM I changed with Japanese build 80 Amps Alternator with a Electric magnetic regulator I never went for service to their old work shop as they did not have experienced workers to handle aftermarket service. All in time regular services were done by me personalty. At 25000 Km I had a small Accident which motor cyclist hitting on driving side and Vehicle was put into their new work shop Service center at Negambo road Walisara. Which they did a good tinkering paint job but I was billed for a new Light control switch they had fitted old working switch later they changed when I brought to their authorities notice. This job was not done as promised in time.This is the normal practice in Srilanka. More than 15 days as agreed. I and my agents had to visit the Walisara Garage more than 15 times to expedite work. After that I developed a Radiator block and brake binding in front Disk brakes only. This caused engine boiling and had to change Engine head gasket, Four (4) Engine head Valves o the center Cylinders. Suzuki Gypsy Gasoline Jeep engine parts are same and cost was cheaper than Chinese parts. I think this was due to not using the Vehicle for more than 45 days thereby Radiator water got clogged. Entire brake system was cleaned with the The tandem master cylinder unit in rear was removed and modified to use without same as there was no parts for same. Front line which take brake fluid back was removed totally. Front brake cylinders was given direct supply from the Brake master cylinder. Problem on the front brakes due to faulty valves in the in the tandem master cylinder unit fixed rear of the Vehicle. After the above said repairs for last Six months I use without any problem. now done more than 30000 Km's. Above is my Experience with Chinese build Vehicle.   9. All list members, I said Shock absorbers are 20000 Km or 25000 Km that is according to Srilankan roads not the west or Developed country's roads. I have seen in developed country's roads were developed improved much before what srilanka started to do. If i am writing wrong information I will withdraw my message with a apology to all all list members. This is purely my experience in the last fifty years of Motor vehicle driving experience in Srilanka. Opinions differ. New methods were used to pave roads with new technologys roads for last 25 years had improved lot. Not like I remember in 1950's roads in Srilanka. I am a old school person a driver could not drive more than 20 MPH during 1950's without a discomfort who traveled on the vehicle they traveled. It is left for members on the list to decide I am correct or not. I remember Galle Road was the first to use Barber Green Machines by Colombo Municipality in early 1950's to carpet Road. If my memory is correct first to use Asphalt carpet in Srilanka was from starting Galle face hotel to Colombo St Peters College end Wellawatha Canal in Srilanka. I do not want to blow my trumpet as I have been in Automobile After market service Industry for more than 50 Years can Remember all developments in Automobile industry in Srilanka living in Colombo 00300. for last 67 years.   10. Sir, I have had same symptoms with my Chinese build Channa 1300CC Duel purpose Vehicle like on this early comment I too suspect that your one censor is not functioning correctly. When the trouble start I cannot accelerate the Engine as I start in the morning do not Idle correctly. Stops the engine when I change gears. My Engine when this happens I remove the first censor on the intake throttle of the inlet manifold and clean same fix that back then the engine work fine for few 1000 Km. I will suggest you to try same or get some one who has a Engine Diagnostic Analyzer to check your engine working system. I think Cost is around Rupees: 2500/=. Power Steering oil pump or Alternator Belt I personally do not think have any thing related to your Engine problem. Poly V Belts and V Belts will have a Creaking noise when they have faulty traction due to worn out problems. Engine runs with out correct belt tightness to take the load of the any one of above said drive units will give creaking noise. In the market you can buy belt non slip spray for Creaking noise which is around Rupees 1300.00 to 1500.00. Air intake filter also I change every 10000 KM I clean same every 1000 km using high pressure air due to this First Air filter at 6000 Km I had this problem. I was advised by a foreign forum to check the air filter if this problem comes up as in town running air filter will absorb lot of Black smoke and get clogged. I am a old School worker who had my training in Electrical Maintenance of units in west in 1960 to 1964. That is the reason I Have a little more knowledge of motors and Generators of Auto and industrial units. After 30 years I deviated to another subject in Automobile service industry as the subject which I cater was not available in Srilanka was necessary to our automobile owners.   11. Sir, I my self did what you had mentioned to change with times moving my traditional service to another. Yes to all what you had said I agree with you but to day Mechanics few are trained and supervises charge hands do not have all round working experience of automobiles they change unwanted parts of some serviceable units. If you visit with a electrical problem to Auto Electrical repair service center with Alternator problem low charging current when you drive in the night with Head lights on. difficult starting first thing they will do is change brush set and Ball bearings of the unit without checking the charging system with a Ampere and Volt meters. Starter motor or the wiper motor is also same I don't see any of Auto Electrical service centers have test Bench to test Alternator or the load test of a Automobile starter motor I recently had to visit on my subject to a leading Heavy Automobile work shop who deals with Buses and trucks they did not have any testing equipment of above. I will like to mention M/s, Walker sons work shop which existed in Kollupitiya for more than 60 years had several departments and they were fully equipped to do and test Automobile parts Lucas Electrical department had a Krypton test bench that to test Dynamos and Alternators Magnetos of 1960 era Motor cycles that same machine could do a load test of a starter motor. M/s, Rowlends at Darmapala Mawatha and M/S, Collets in Borella had smiler machines in their Electrical departments. Brake testing meters Tapply to do a test of brakes after brake system Service. Above said establishments are not existing any more Even Diesel repair departments of above said Establishments had test benches to calibrate Diesel Fuel pumps to correct parameters of different Vehicle pumps and all test charts were displeased in front of the machine so that operator Mechanic can do a perfect repair of the unit which he handles. Today plenty of Diesel repair centers are available I have heard they all do good work as I do not use Diesel Automobiles I am unable to comment any adverse reports of those Diesel repair Centers. Today lot of training centers are there to get Mechanics to get them self trained with theory and practical but still they have to be employed in a good automobile Service station to be a perfect on their Specialty. Please note I mentioned names of reputed Automobile Establishments as they are not existing any more Few experienced Mechanics who were working on those places are still living. I believe in getting maximum life of a part than relapsing same with a new or used part which still have life time to go on. Wijesinghe.
  12. Sir, There is a point what you mention but it is not done in normal practice in forums can mention good service what a establishment does but it is not correct to expose their places and names. If any one in the forum can give their Email address to contact to find out any personal automobile problem and request what are the recommended places to get the problem sorted out is the best I can suggest for your comment. I can expose lot of mistakes done in Automobile industry Repair centers and service stations as I have lot of experience for last 50 years in Automobile after market service industry in Srilanka and other first class country's in West and East. I do not want to hit any one below the belt in last few years of my life. Today very few find the correct fault of the problem of a Automobile when a Automobile is taken to a repair center. What the repair center do is change a new part or used part from purchasing from a dealer with out testing the part is necessary to change or not. Today no one can recondition a part as for last 3 decades we have enough new and used part dealers to cater to the Automobile market. I can mention one incident which happened in 1969 end. We did not have new car imports one Automobile owner had a car with one Cylinder of his car was damaged and their was a compression leak to the engine block he had driven the car after braking the fan belt due to water boiling excessive heat there was a hair line crack on the block of that particular Cylinder the car was old about 20 years at that time. He had refaced the head and changed gaskets twice but the trouble was existing there was compression leak into the engine block when the engine starts and water from the radiator comes out he told me I very carefully examined the engine block and filled air into each cylinder by blocking bottom end and top with a Tube valve cover with a Steal plate fitted from using same block bolts at about 60 PSI air started cumming out from one Cylinder fault was detected and Engine block was taken to a leading Re boring Establishment at Colombo and new sleeve was fitted only to that Cylinder. Until the car was sold in early 1980's he ran without any problem. Specially in Automobile after market service industry my advise to any person is to do a repair center or Service station in a small way with few good dedicated Trained Mechanics and do all finished jobs personal final check up do charge little high so Automobile owners will not complain they will speared to other Automobile owners about the good service of that establishment that do to the automobile service industry by word of mouth. The others who will expand and advertise lot on Media with lot of staff get into Air condition cubicles will have to face Criticism from the Automobile owners due to the owners staff mistakes. Which they are not doing their part correctly. Small timers will exist for generations if the are honest. Wijesinghe.
  13. Re messed up Shock mounts and mistakes done in most of Automobile Service centers is a common thing in the Automobile after market service industry. As Mechanics are inexperienced not trained. I came across a person had got his Vehicle normal service done in a leading auto detailing station and after few Kilometers one of his rear wheel came out and he was on the road at 7 PM had to spend few hundred rupees and three hours on the road to get that re done as the threads of hub bolts of the rear wheel was damaged could not tighten with the same Wheel nuts. The reputed auto detailing service station attendants had not tighten all nuts of the four wheels when complain was brought to the owner of the service station next day found even the oil filter too was not changed by the staff but the vehicle owner was billed the service foreman had cleaned the old filer and refitted taken the new filter and sold to a nearby auto parts shop for half the cost shared with other two attendants. Most service stations owners expand with personal supervention and build a name later they employ supervisors and relax in their office. Completed jobs the owners of Service centers do not have proper final check ups. Automobile service center owners are inside Air conditioned cubicles and when the business expand they forget their past. I found on this Auto lanka Forum number of comments on reputed service centers not keeping to agreed times to deliver Vehicles after Accident repairs and unsatisfactory paint jobs. Thereby they gets comments like mentioned early even the service centers have equipped with all modern equipments for Automobile after market services. Due to not employing dedicated supervises and Mechanics for their Bread and Butter. Today almost all workers in the Automobile service industry work only for Rupees and Cents. Some Automobile owners also want cheap repairs done. Wijesinghe.
  14. Re Shock Absorber testing the mentioned work shop is situated at Hyde Park Corner they are Tyre Merchants also. They have a full package for Wheel balancing Wheel Alignment and Shock absorber testing will cost you with weights for five Wheels around 3000.00 to 4000.00 Rupees as Lead weights for Wheels will be the extra cost. I got my Shock Absorbers test done they charged me Rupees 1000.00 two months ago. Mine is a Duel purpose Van so cost may be high I do not Know the charges for a car. Will be all most same they have a computerized machine and give printed report of all four Shock Absorbers do a good job. Wijesinghe.

    All list members, Please note I did not start Windshield repair in the General Auto Lanka Forum. I only started about Fuel savers I do not want to advertise my Glass repair in Auto lanka Forum. One customer who visited for my services told me there is a forum and there is some one wanted my references he wanted to reply for same. Then only I became a member and replied for his request. I have enough wealth to exist in last few years of my life. Do not have any one of mine to leave my Glass Repair and Polishing Technology which I brought from USA Pioneer Glass repair inventing Establishment "NOVUS" WINDSHIELD REPAIR. I have build up in Srilanka from 1992 after 15 years I have trained very young person totally out side person who had skills in another technical trade to be a good Glass Repairer and glass polisher. Till I was 65 Years I did all glass repair and Polishing work on my own. To Glass repair trade few others entered they are no more due to poor Quality finished jobs. I do not intend arguing with Mr Senadhir or counter attacking him if he read my massages I never requested the members to come to me for Glass repairs. Even Lord Buddha has preached not to associate with persons who are not intelligent. I do not want to get into that low category. On the Fuel saver subject I wanted to share with others what I have experimented at my cost. It is left for other members on this list to decide who is correct who is the culprit.     Sir, Thank you for your comment. I will always like to share my Knowledge I am more qualified in Electricity of Automobiles and heavy industrial unis. I do not want to blow my own Trumpet. Yes I have little more time to do new Experiments like Fuel saving methods. I do have my own Work shop fully equipped for what is necessary for my work. Which Existed from 1931 on same situation. Three Skilled Qualified young Workers one worker has worked in Middle East as a Work leader for 12 Years. All round experience in working for a reputed Automobile agent in their after market service Automobile Service station. I do a Automobile aftermarket Service Pioneer in that service and served the Srilanka Automobile Industry for more than 50 years Following my late Father's footsteps in the same place from 1931 Work shop what he Established to Maintain Electrical units of Automobiles and heavy industry. At the moment I do not do any Electrical service. Because I concentrate more on other Service What I do from 1992 which is very necessary for Srilankan Automobile users. Wijesinghe.

At present the second generation of the founder is doing the said business in a very satisfactory way as I know most used car dealers get their services. At present there are number of shock absorber testing units are available for entire Vehicle in the city of Colombo and other major towns as far as I know the lifespan of a shock absorber is 20000 km to 25000Km. I do my all four shock absorbers in my Vehicle get tested every three months after 10000 km as mine is new Chinese build duel purpose Vehicle. First I got them tested at just after 10000 Km they were 60% ok according to Computerized report. At 25000Km when I tested i found one in front was bad and replaced same. other three was 50% OK I did not want to spend money on changing others there after I had tested twice and other three was still in 50% efficient. To my experience KYB which is freely available for all Vehicles in Srilanka and reasonably coasted are the best in the market. Wjesinghe.

    Windscreen Repairs

    Sir, Braso or Silvo both are similar polishing agents some Spray painters after painting I know use said compounds to do the final polishing of the painted area any one of the above two compounds. I remember there was a Spray painter in Puttlam in late 1960. I think he is no more in this paradise island was the most expensive painter in that town he never polish after painting a vehicle he gets his customer to visit him after 7 days to do the final cut and polish he never used cloth to apply compound he always use his bare hands two palms and apply compound powder mixed with Braso on to the newly painted area and does the final polish. When ever any one comes to me regarding Windshield polishing I always educate the owner of the Vehicle what is necessary to polish I give three options like half windshield glass,Full windshield glass,Driving area. Please note driving area means the area which helps to get front vision only. This area is the most critical area when we are driving it is oval shape area about 12 inches by 9 inches on the driving side of the windshield. My machine rotates at with out load around 5000 to 5500 RPM depending the input voltage. When the machine is in operation with polishing pad with the load on the windshield glass this RPM will come down by 10 to 15% depending on the pad load spring the machine operator decides the pad spring load according to the windshield. I always educate the customer about my service and telephone reputed new windshield glass dealers and find out the cost of new one and let the customer decide to get the polish done or go in for a new replacement. Please note one above member had mentioned I had used a materiel like braso in my work shop for polishing glasses. I never use materials available in the Srilanka market AS A INTERNATIONAL FRANCHISE HOLDER I KEEP TO THE WORLD FRANCHISE REGULATIONS STIPULATED BY MY PRINCIPALS IN USA WHERE THE MATERIALS ARE CONCERNED.     Sir, This is not a car mine is a Chinese Duel propose Van Channa 10 seats 1000 Kgs GVW a Chinese build Suzuki Gypsy Engine assembled in China 1300CC with German Bosch EFI and all censers are Bosch I bought this new for Rupees 1135000.00 done at present 31000 KM. Had few problems like engine heating up due to Radiator block at 25000 KM had to change 4 Valves Engine head was refaced Engine block was refaced as the new gasket failed within 1 day. AFTER 50 KM WHEN HEAD WAS REMOVED I FOUND THE ENGINE BLOCK TOP HAD SLIGHTLY NOT IN STRAIGHT LINE WHEN I TESTED THE LEVEL ON THE ENGINE BLOCK HAD TO RE FACE THE BLOCK ON A THICK(3) 10 mm GLASSES 1 FOOT BY 1 1/2 FEET WITH FINE EMMERY PASTE UNTIL THE ENGINE BLOCK GOT THE PERFECT LEVEL WHICH TOOK 20 HOURS TIME OF TWO MECHANICS. Please note to do this I had to remove all parts of the engine block crank and pistons after getting perfect engine block level I had to use Kerosene oil about three gallons. High pressure AIR WATER AGAIN AIR to do a perfect cleaning which took four days as this was done by moving the Engine block on the glasses manually. Engine was totally refitted with correct tools and Toke wrench was used for correct tightening of nuts and bolts. I THINK WHAT YOU SAY IT IS CORRECT INCREASE OF HP. I will have to run for some more Km and give the results and problems which will develop later to this Forum. There are Electric turbo charges which are advertised on the WEB. If I fix a Electric turbocharger I did read entire system of fuel (EFI) supply into the Engine has to be re calibrated to compensate air flow.
