  1. I'm puzzeled. Should'nt the EV mode deactivate automatically and engine cuts in once the battery level drops below 40%?
  2. Hope you will pronounce it the proper way when doing the Prius review on TV.
  3. Are you sure? Cos my BIL rented a 121 for 82k couple of days ago.
  4. True, but you can get your hands on a 2nd hand Tiida for around 3 M.Tiidas which were imported brand new by the agents for permit holders are pretty much in good condition and have fairly low mileage.
  5. How about a Nissan Tiida. Ideal for a lady. It's seats are sitting higher than ordinary cars and got height adjustable driver's seat hence good road visibility. My wife loved it.
  6. what's your vehicle?. I use mobil 10W40 for my prius. It was recommended by Toyota lanka. You can get it from Laughs. Also Toyota oil of the same grade is fine.
  7. Trinity at 3rd place. Well at least they are top in the list in cricket.
  8. Appreciate if you could read the post CAREFULLY before commenting.
  9. Well guys last week I took my car to Hybrid motors for a tune up. Thought to share my experience there. First impression is not so good. The gate was not attended and was partially closed. Had to honk few times to get it opened. The main garage is housed in an old warehouse. There were 5 prii including mine and 1 Honda civic and few other non-hybrid vehicles in the garage. You don’t see the usual hustle and bustle that you see at A*W or other workshops here. There were few technicians including a couple of Singaporeans and a hot looking female in the office. The Singaporean guys supervises the local staff and saw one of them advising the technicians time to time while the job is underway which is a good thing. The Labour charge for the tune up was 8k. Replaced all Iridium spark plugs for 3200/- a piece. The price list displayed at the desk showed 16k for a lubrication service. The only addition to it was the hybrid system scan. But IMO that’s not necessary at each service. So I would not recommend hybrid motors for routine service. The price is too high. Out of the 5 Prii which were there two had come for tune-ups. Another 2 for accident repairs and the other for inverter coolant pump replacement. The Civic was lying there due to inverter failure. So far there has been one case of inverter replacement in a Prius. The cost is somewhere around 400k. The most common failure is the inverter coolant pump failure, the replacement including Labour will cost around 25k. As I know there is a bad patch of inverter coolant pumps in the 2nd gen Prius and they fail after about 100K km. When it fails the check engine light and master warning light will be lit. But still you are able to drive the car. So that’s why you have to be careful. You are allowed to drive the car few km (with AC switched off) without overheating the inverter. But most prudent thing is to tow the vehicle. Also there is this simple check that you can do to make sure your inverter coolant pump is working properly. When the car is on standby open the cap of the inverter coolant reservoir. You should see turbulence in the fluid and if you squeeze the rubber hose you should feel the fluid passing. When the pump is failing it pumps less and less fluid so you know when to replace. Talking about the professionalism of the local technicians there….well I’m not so impressed. All the tiny parts which was removed the guy didn’t separate properly, and the result.. one of the clips was missing from the plastic cover after the job was done.
  10. As long as the road is single lane the entire journey will be at a snail's pace, behind all those lorries, buses, trishaws and barakaraththa.
  11. And it varies from vehicle to vehicle. I used my N16 for 3 1/2 years without any significant drop in the AC efficiency. Serviced the system once during that period and didn't find a considerable change in refrigerant level. It's true that any AC system is not 100% tight. The shaft seals of the compressor can't be made 100% tight. But saying periodic top ups is normal is just an overstatement.
  12. hrm, considering the age of your car there can be leaks through the compressor shaft seals and the small O rings as well. Theoretically about 15% depletion of refrigerant per year is considered normal. It's also applicable for larger applications as well. Maybe I misintepreted what you said. Thought you are re-gasing regularly, and thats not normal. Also contrary to the popular belief it is good to use the AC regularly so that the O rings and seals will be kept moist by the circulating oil and it will extend the lifetime of them. If the AC is not being used for a long time the rubber material will be dry and degrade and will cause leakages. Anyway it's good to have the AC system in your car checked by a qualified technician not a makabass.
  13. No. It's not normal if you re gas time to time. Definitely your system has a leak. Get it checked by a experienced mechanic. edit: Since the leak is apparently small it might be through the O rings.
  14. The hybrid battery doesn't die suddenly like that. It will give you tell-tale signs like increased fuel consumption and in severe cases difficulty in reversing. So that's when you need to DRIVE the car to the dealer for a checkup.
  15. If you are considering a Freelander be aware of the inherent problems that comes with it.Especially the IRD unit.
  16. There's a place called D*a*o* M*r* at Mirihana junction next to the filling station. They install GPS tracking devices. I purchased a navigation system from them and their after sales service is quite good.
  17. Spending the holidays in kandy, and the reception of maxtv is very poor here. So thanks malla for the link. And good job Supra. Really enjoyed the show especially the Honda Insight reviews. It was truly unbiased and professional. But you didn't take a look under the hood ne .Keep up the good work. there's plenty of room for improvement like more detailed technical reviews. I'll give four stars out of five.
  18. The reason behind the low gas mileage is the engine driven ac compressor. In SL unlike in the US you have to keep the ac always on so the engine will be running Continuously even at standstill during traffic. Hence the effectiveness of the "eco assist" mode is impaired.
  19. The only setback is the poor rear leg room and head room.Thats the main reason why I changed my decision of buying the Insight. But it is the better looking one.
  20. Also mods can remove rep points (I suggest 5) for each off topic or offensive/abusive post. Just a thought.
