  1. Yet to see one in SL. Anyway there is a import restriction so you cant bring down cars over 2 yrs since YOM.
  2. Car looks fab, ...... I would buy it right now for $ 9k, Even riced up EG8s are sold around that price in Sri Lanka, how bloody unfair.
  3. VVT is now commonly used by other manufacturers but the twin spark has not enjoyed the same success though the technology was available since 1914.... so the point is is it really successful as it is made to sound ? My guess is its not,
  4. Rs 10.5k seems a very good price if they were made in Japan.... There maybe a truth in that since you have not upgraded the brakes but the tyre mass is more but Since you have increased the width from 165 to 185, your braking may have improved not worsened since there is now more surface are for friction. A lower profile will give you better handling, so bringing it down to 65 is good and you are also retaining the width of 185.
  5. Some of the comments made on that fourum is just hilarious.... and these are the type of guys who will travel on this
  6. Based on your tyre size of 185/70 R14 , I wouldn't worry too much on the brand name. Since you have GT, this should be good enough, even most other cheap tyres are equally good. Technology has advanced significantly and at the end of the day its the same natural rubber latex that goes in to the tyre. Even the thread patterns are overrated by the big tyre cos, as long as it can properly trap the water it serves the purpose. But where things are different is in the construction of the tyre and the big brands maybe better, but this is not a big issue as the main concern is thread wear. As soon as your tyres wear out we throw it away, but it could easily be rebuilt since the construction is solid... This is done for most truck & bus tyres, but I think Arpico does car tyres as well. ( Not quite sure )
  7. You had mentioned something about gays, I was just trying to put things in perspective ..... I have driven both the Maruti 800 and the Zen, but trust me its not good. I almost crashed the zen since the break and the accelerator are too close to each other, and if you are 6ft its quite difficult to fit in to the darn thing. The plastics are terrible and soo cheap quality, the seats are equally bad. The breaks , steering, suspension all of it is just bad and poor quality. Although we have one in the family we bought it when it was only Rs 800k, which was a good deal, but since the prices have gone up there are much better options... Only good thing is the fuel consumption. The same goes for the Alto as well, its the same monkey.... Btw : Maruti is the sanskrit name for Hanuman,
  8. The Honda City is made in Tailand, and the wagon R in India. To be honest the build quality is very poor compared to even a used recon Jap import. Just see for yourself and compare the Indian Alto to a Japa Alto, you will immediately notice the difference, only issue with the Jap alto is it does not have the rear crystal lights ....
  9. One of the problems I foresee here is that most of our boys have upgraded to bigger alloys and bigger tyres. Since the speedo is not calibrated for this change, most would assume they are doing less than 100 but in fact they could be doing 110 ( few inches in height of the wheels may result in 10% or more variation with actual speed Vs whats been shown on the speedo, think this was discussed at lenght in another thread ). But the speed guns of the cops will read the correct speed. So anyone who has upgraded from the stock tyre needs to take this in to account, specially when driving on the highway..
  10. If you got kids go for a Nissan AD wagon ( nothing like a station wagon to carry all that stuff ) , if single go for a older Suzuki swift.
  11. Told you..... not to ask opinons after you have taken the decision, it will only depress you. This is what happens in most marraiges in Sri Lanka Girl A : Do you think my husband is gay ? Gril B : Why u ask ? Girl A : He is not f**king me since we got married. Girl B : Should have checked it out before the wedding Girl A : No , I thought its better to marry first and then ask for opinons why he wears pink undies......
  12. On the subject of Alloy wheels, I heard that Amila on Hilstreet actually manufacture alloys locally. Any truth in that ?
  13. Normal water ? , but shouldnt you use distiled water as the stuff in the water will start scaling inside the system. Best is to use battery water, but for the flushing normal tap water should be ok.
  14. Someone said the 95 is Rs 1/= higher @ IOC . not sure on the 90, my guess is should be the same.
  15. Laugs was issuing these FOC with every emmission test......
  16. Yeah... sometimes navigating the www can be difficult with all the garbage out there. But you also need common sense to figure out whats right from wrong.
  17. Was doing 160, when I was overtaken ..... The speed is restricted and the dial is only up to 180, as its a JDM version. Cops were there but I think they were letting people have some fun.
  18. I did the radiator flush, they used some brand for the flushing of the system and filled it with a green coolant. Cant remember the name but was not a local product , think it was German or something, It mentioned as "summer", so my guess it did not have anti freeze which is really not required for SL. Since it specifically mentioned as Summer I thought it may have a lower boiling point. To share the full story, I made a big mistake of just giving the car to the service station guys ( A well known service station in Nawala ) told them what to do and I went to the customer lounge and was relaxing reading the motor mag article on Darins GTR. After sometime I went to have a look at the car and the guys were trying to fill up the entire system with the coolant ( without diluting it ). When I told the guys what there were doing is wrong they said that's what they do to all the cars. Then I picked up a empty can and showed them the instructions, where it was clearly mentioned about the % mix with water. So I got the guys to mix it with battery water and it was done. I honestly cant understand the stupidity of these guys or were they just trying to earn more.
  19. There is no point in asking the opinion of a car that you have already ordered, best is to just sit back and enjoy till it arrives. The spotz is not much different from the other car except for the alloys and a few other cosmetic differences, which are hardly noticeable. In my view if you get a basic car and change the Alloys and get a tint this makes a big difference. For 1.5 you can get many cars, but some of us have got this wrong idea that the car we buy MUST be brand new, irrespective of where its manufactured. A few months back I sold a 2004 Suzuki swift Sport for 1.6 Mn, Recaro seats, ENEKI alloys 1.5 cc , does over 10 km/lts , fogs the works, amazingly fast car but had done around 60k kms.
  20. I for one Google just about anything from finding a telephone number of a restaurant to buying a phone, car, look up medication...
  21. Based on whats mentioned in the wiki link the second park comes after the first to burn any remaining fuel. This means by this time the piston has already started to move. IF there is sufficient fuel and air in the chamber for a second burn doesn't it mean that the engine is purposely running rich just to accommodate the second spark ? Why not just pump in some more air which is freely available ? Further the fuel / air mix may not be well regulated as this is based on whats left after the first burn ( it could be less oxygen or fuel ). If this set up is proven to be a success why is it not commonly used in other vehicles . Think the Alfa has the Twin spark, apart from that nothing else comes to mind. Its a interesting discussion, if any learned members would share their thoughts.....
  22. Ok , I am planing on a trip to Katharagama next week. Thought of taking the E01 but coming back take the route via Welawaya - Balangoda , instead of the Udawalawe route. I think its a better drive along the mountains with some bends, than the boring Udawalawe. The only nice part is traveling along the park where you might spot few elephants in the distance.
  23. If the temp is so low on a cold day in Sri Lanka, imagine how it would be in winter.
  24. Better stick with a Jap Alto in my view. Going for a BN is no point if you plan to upgrade in a years time. Suprised you dont have the Suzuki Swift in the list since your budget is Rs 2 Mn. Its got a bit more space than the Alto as well.
  25. Thanks, was not aware the Honda City had a twin spark set up..
