  1. hunting for a vehicle at least a temporary one to use in new year days till i get my hands on a good euro. You said the inner coil has replaced or rather re-winded. This 12.5 is sort of bare minimum. This figure can considered ok provided that all electrics were switched on. However, with electrics switched off it should at least pump 13v out to keep the battery in good health.
  2. count me in too.. there's nothing but a white plastic card and twice cops stopped and took a good look at the license as if they can read!! and asked where do I live all crap and let me go. Not a word about the faded license, I wonder why. I had an answer ready on my tongue tip if he points out the damn thing is faded, that is, "this license has been issued by the same government you're serving for officer, not something I brought from home" never had a chance to put it out though.
  3. thanks for the time taken to put this up.. Oh, btw, you too are a dummy as per your own definition ?

alright, if the cells are weak or one cell is gone, it won't hold enough power for a morning start. Since you've mentioned the battery water level drops, there's an overcharging issue in the charging system. Get it checked and fixed before you install a new battery. Hope this helps.
  5. Pala would be alright and they got quite lot of positive feedback in this forum and personally I can recommend based on my experience too.

find out whether that's a weakness of the battery or your electric system drains the battery overnight.

not enough infor to think of a diagnosis. Do you hear any click noise where the starter motor relay operates ? If yes, check whether you hear relatively louder clonk sound from starter motor when you move the key position to start. If yes, then for sure the brushes have worn out. Try to put the car in 3rd or 4th gear and move slightly to turn the engine about 1/2 turn and then give it a try. If you hear the starter relay operating sound, then you should check the solenoid of the starter motor itself and the electric supply. Before you proceed on depth, why not remove battery terminals, clean them up and give it a try. Also if you got any further information on this issue which would help us to diagnose, put them up.
  8. many happy returns of the day mate. hope you'll have a good one.
  9. you meant to say if a jaywalker hits the car from a side? yeah, the doors will take that side impact and bent. As a security feature, it won't be able to re-open. Well for the roll over test, better if the driver can roll over a tarmac leaving the car behind, the results would be far more better.
  10. I do love to reply to these threads than useless mushrooming threads on hybrids, fuel consumption, tax reductions, Tsunami's and what not.
  11. probably the 'aging' could be the better term as to why you hear it first time. I don't think it's possible to lubricate it and even if lubricated the sound will be there.
  12. This is the sound of the load spring being released inside the brake booster unit. Nothing to panic IMHO.
  13. Any update on the diagnosis or repair attempts you made? As much as i would like to help ppl on diagnosis, it's best if they can put up the findings and results here. Not only new visitors but even ourselves would be benefited in terms of learning.
  14. seems either the alternator or regulator has some hick-ups. Check the charging voltages as per the point 2 and put up the figures here. Then we all can be clear of the problem.
  15. you better be kidding which means this Alfa got an inherited overheating issue ?
  16. I'm not very clear, is it two batteries in last 02 months or only an acid change done 02 months back? How old is the battery ? 1. cannot judge the alternator by a single isolated incident. How is the morning start? and do you drive home in the night with lights and A/C on? does the car start the following morning without hesitation ? 2. Charging can be checked with full load (lights, A/C switched on) and it should provide an output of 13.5 ~ 14 depending on the load. If it doesn't give this output, it's either the alternator coil itself or other components in the charging system such as diode plate and charging IC or regulator. 3. I'm afraid I don't have any contacts around Dehiwala area. 4. Depends on the battery and the health of the charging system. Usually after about 20 to 30 mins of a run, even a deflated battery should handle a start (provided that battery is in good health). Depends on the time you ran the vehicle than the no of kms you run basically. 5. current comes from the entire system. If the battery charging is weak, yes there's a chance of car stalling. Try to isolate the problem, whether it's charging related or not. If your morning start is ok and battery and the charging system is in good nick, then the next suspect would be the ignition coil which would make a car stall. Find out answers for the charging system and then let's proceed with the diagnosis of the issue.
  17. True piece of beauty and I can clearly see the road it had handled up to this point. Trust me, I know how relieved feeling I have when I drive the Euro as oppose to the Lancer, I'm so well confident that it'll handle any hump, pothole (occasionally the island in the middle of the road) BTW, is it just me or the bonnet of the car is not properly closed?
  18. shhh, now that you don't wanna make those ricer boys and econobox fans aware of these euro beauties and spoil my dreams of owning a one at a good bargain.
  19. a passat or an exec perhaps. Even the lancer was up for sale. This went far earlier than it.
  20. Another myth debunked, that euros can't sell that easily. well, about 60 plus inquiries, three inspections and one buyer all within 24 hrs. I'm gonna miss her.
  21. Hows your Euro doing btw?
  22. let's not get there as it's not ethical to discuss in the forum At last people started believing maintaining and repairing Euro's aint exorbitantly expensive. A friend of mine done some small repairs of a 110 and ended up paying a bill in excess of 50k and I questioned the mechanic who's a trust worthy guy and he said the parts in delkanda junk yards are becoming scares due to new custom practices in clearing used spare parts.
  23. No way not tomorrow coz put it up for sale thinking of an upgrade after 4+ years.. can't handle the amount of calls I'm getting. If no lucky taker turns up, may be next week
  24. good post and well written on behalf of all petrol heads and Euro fans. Wanna company of a 406 next time to tame these dirty roads? Euro's are wonderful in doing long trips than running about in Colombo, then only you can get the real feeling of the handling and comfort of an Euro. Went on Anuradhapura once and Kataragama on frequent basis with a return figure in excess of 14kmpl which is more than enough for me.
  25. keeping a vehicle under your name is not handy all the time. Remember, income tax people out there watching for those who register vehicles under their names, that's one of the reasons for some people who can afford a vehi without a leasing too consider that as a safe route in owning a vehicle.
