unfortunately in Sri Lanka if you drive a leased tuk tuk, leasing company will intervine and get the claim to repair the tuk even though you are drunk at the time of accidents.

For An Urgent Leasing Detail Reqires..
amilawuk replied to nicu563's question in Car Buying Information
almost all the leasing companies will offer leases to businessmen without proper accounts. But they will look at your background, nature of the business etc and ask for guarantors. Easiest thing to do is pop in to a car sale joint who sells second hand vecles like punXXi cxr NiwaXX. Leasing company marketting guys are hanging around there to get some deal. -
Checklist is available in owners manual as well. If my memory is correct manual recommends to replace the air filter every 20000km. Just double check with your copy. If you are going to A*W they will go through the check list. They used to hand over a copy of it to vehicle owner as well.

not an expert but my two cents....driving a 2004 alto 1. No idea. I just shift the gears when i "feel" its the right time. I dont look at the speedometer. 2. 13km/l in colombo traffic. 18-20 in long distance.

Leasing Company will sell the ceased vehicle. If the amount received from the sale of vehicle is not sufficient to cover the amount due from the lessee then guarntors will be asked to pay.

Govt servants permits were not transferable up to 5 years for a long time until MR changed the policy couple of years ago. What people used to do was sell the car without transfering the registered ownership.(so called open papers....)

Honda Vezel - Auto Lowering Mirror Is Not Working
amilawuk replied to ans's topic in General Automotive
Mercs are expensive to maintaintain isn't it? Does the maintenance cost of a vezel and a Merc in the same range? -
You can reuse the GI pipes and roofing sheets when you go to a new place. So the total 35k won't go bust. If you can find a material for roof similar to the one in the picture cost might be lower.

Need Advise - Buying A Suzuki Alto And Renting To A Taxi Service
amilawuk replied to Iroshw's topic in General Automotive
As far as I know they pay you a fixed amount per month. I don't think they fix the milage for you though they charge a premium from the customers. Bottom line is they do a business and they want to maximise their share of profits. Anyway if you want more than 30k per month rent a car won't be an option for you 'coz most of the places rent out altos for 1500/= per day. So the chances of they paying you more than 30k is bit remote. Anyway check with crosswinds contacts you might be lucky. If you have a reliable driver do the math again and take a calculated risk by putting it to a taxi. Consider Tata Nano in that scenario since fuel efficiency is good but not sure about the other costs. If you don't have a reliable driver don't even think about taxi option. -
Need Advise - Buying A Suzuki Alto And Renting To A Taxi Service
amilawuk replied to Iroshw's topic in General Automotive
I think crosswind's suggestion is better than your idea of renting it to a taxi. I use an Indian alto built in 2004 and it does 13 km/l. So one way it'll cost you around 11 ruppees only for fuel . So if you consider the return without a passenger cost will be 22 ruppees. On top of that you have to do the service and maintenance plus replace the worn out parts. (Tyres/breaks etc). Then you have to pay drivers salary before taking out the lease payment. So the math is tricky. Furtehr I have been going here and there from the taxi services like budget taxi/ nano taxi etc for my office work. Almost all the drivers own the car (but mostly they are Tata nanos). According to them its not worth to give the car to a driver. -
Help Me To Buy A Car From Direct Auction

for the simple reason my friend.....not having deep pockets to buy a Merc. Having said that the one has to realise the fact that you are driving a cheap alto and you shouldn't be doing things when you're behind the wheel of a Merc or BMW End of the day everyone has to say good bye when the time comes whether you're in a alto/ leyland or Merc/BMW

2004 YOM alto with 90k+ milage 13 km/l colimbo traffic 18-22 km/l out stattion. I HEARD new version is more fuel efficient. I dont think alto has anything wrong with durability though it won't last as much as a Japanse car. My one has survived for 10 yeasr and signs are it'll survive for another 5 more years. You shouldn't be expecting more than that for the price you pay. Yes safety is a concern. You need to be cautios and be aware that you are driving an Alto. With all the state of the art safety features Vinil Manik's Merc crashed killing 4 people incuding his son. For your budget and concern on fuel efficiency alto seems to be a good fit. But keep in mind it won't give the things like driving pleasure, comfort, social status etc. There was a thread comparing alto with a starlet. you might find some info there as well

Being an alto user here goes my two cents. Driving pleasure: Not Applicable. Agree with Bullock Cart comment. Safety: Better than a motor bike. Agree with papadam comment Fuel: 13 km/l in traffic and 18-20kml Out station Maintenance: No major repairs from 2004 up to now and for 90k+ milage. Even if there are issues any makabaas can fix it since its very basic. Parts are cheap. Security: High tech security systems not needed. No body is going to steal. At least my one was not stolen for last 10 years. Social Status: Pathetic. Even 3wheel buggers will shout at you. Sikkas at parking joints will show you that they are 'Security OFFICERS'. It is only a reliable means of moving from point A to point B without waiting for public transport. But Starlet is a CAR even it is hatchback. So obviously you have to spend more. So its your call to decide whether you want to spend something more to use a car or spend the bare minimum for a means of transport like me.

Sri Lankan Second Hand Vehicle Market Comparison
amilawuk replied to sathyajithj99's question in Car Buying Information
Yes there is a crowd who looks for Mazda and I think Honda also has that kind of a crowd. Mazda and Honda lovers usually doesn't switch the brands. They simply upgrade to the next version. -
He has given prices for two permit categories. So you can't compare the prices. If you want to copmapre the prices check the prices with similar permit category. For e.g the price for evoque for 45k permit can be compared with the given dicovery price.
