Maintenance cost of an EG8 is not as astronomical as you think.I have never used a Toyota so i can't really comment on the price difference.The main problem with hondas is that parts are not freely available at every autoshop, so you's have to either get them from stafford or teck(spelling) motors.
If you manage to find a good EG,then you would only have to spend money on normal maintenance items like brake pads,etc.But due to the age of the car, you might have to spend some extra cash on running repairs as well.However, if you get your hand on a totally raped EG8, then expect to spend quite a lot in the long run.
To give you a rough idea,if you decide to get your brake pads from normal auto parts dealer, it would cost you about 1000-1200(2years ago) and the oil filter would cost you about 550-600(same timing)..genuine parts would cost you extra money but you'd have some peace in mind.Anyway, good luck..
ah almost forgot,make sure you check the suspension before you buy the car..
