  1. What limits specifically? I'd like to know.
  2. Yes, that is true. We won't see any more new vehicle models with old technology again. Current iteration will be phased out sooner or later. Even toyota is not updating the LC70 design to even out the track width difference in front and rear probably because they have no plans to continue it. I was in Australia in 2017 and did some tracks along Anne beadell highway and some in Kimberley, almost all the vehicles were 70 series dual cabs and troop carriers, hence my comment on the outback.
  3. Couldn't disagree more with you mate, there is still a market for true rugged 4WD's out there albeit not here in SL. you don't want 85 ECU that are waiting to fail on a remote trail on Aussie outback or on an African game trail. Peoples lives depend on these vehicles. Sure it's not a huge market like the mall crawlers have in US or Europe and even SL, but people still use these quite often. Look at the little Jimny, not a massive offroading truck but its an honest 4WD which is quite nimble and capable. It's quite popular in the Scandinavia just because it's simple and practical in tricky conditions. As I see, the real reason they opted to soften the defender was LR has already lost the edge on ruggedness and reliability many ears ago. LR got wiped out from Africa and Australia by Toyota and Middle east was taken over by Nissan. As pretty as they are to the eye, reliability records say a different story. JLR is trying to sell another range rover disguised in defender clothing, only time will tell if they succeed.
  4. Watching the new defender launch and listening to Sir Ralf Speth talk about the latest software updates in the new defender, Life doesn't get better than this. ?
  5. Not a coincidence at all, the ad algorithms are pretty darn good now. https://www.forbes.com/sites/kashmirhill/2012/02/16/how-target-figured-out-a-teen-girl-was-pregnant-before-her-father-did/#780f55ae6668
  6. If your's is a 2L-T, this is the shift pattern for the 4WD control. Depending on the gearbox, you may have to completely stop the vehicle to engage 4WD or low range. And remember to lock the front wheel hubs if you have to use the 4WD. A quick search on the internet will tell you how. If it's a button 4WD(button on the transfer case shifter, which I haven't seen on 2L-T 78's), pressing the button engages 4WD and hubs are automatically locked(vaccum ADD). Select low or high range using transfer case shifter.
  7. Some people just want to see the world burn my friend... ?
  8. Exactly, You can't physically fit all that electronics features into that price point. Yet they claim a engine made in Belgium and a CVT from somewhere is included in the price. @Roshan321 I saw the video you linked before. That's more of an advertisement about Unit** Moto** than the actual vehicle. I couldn't help but feel sorry about the gentleman who knew nothing much about the vehicle being convinced to purchase by the salespeople there.
  9. Taking one for the team I see, for SCIENCE
  10. Exactly, They have the technology, but that does not mean they put all that technology into a budget vehicle. Or they are going to sell you that technology on a budget. That's what the Taiwanese did, but not the Chinese business model anymore. You get what you pay for. That's what I've seen so far in every Chinese product and I doubt future cars will be any different. Same as the mobile phone market or the consumer electronics market. Forget about the Safety, All the electronics gizmos included in the vehicle are built to fall within this budget scheme. Automotive electronics is an entirely different segment of electronics design. Even the components are rated for automotive applications from the silicon level manufacturer and they cost much more than your run of the mill electronics. Even from the Chinese manufacturers, Automotive stuff is expensive. Even for a mass manufactured vehicle, I can't see how they managed to fit everything into this vehicle for this budget with automotive grade quality. Yes, Toyotas have been recalled so many time, that's the good part, They recall their mistakes. No product is perfect, and people make mistakes all the time. But private companies run the risk of ruining their reputation if they try to cover up their mistakes(VW diesel anyone?). So they have to recall and fix and rebuild the customer loyalty. Now think about DFSK, they are majority owned by the government of People's Republic of China. Any problem in a vehicle? well that can't be true because the government of china does not make any mistakes. nobody wants to acknowledge that for the company(or the country). Technology is not just a economic sector for some countries, technology is the key in showing their political and socio-economic superiority to the world (The same reason they build that massive bridge). So admitting a mistake in their design and recalling is suicide in current economic war between china and the west.
  11. And take a good mechanic with you to inspect the vehicle you are buying. I'm not familiar with the agents checkup process on Perodua vehicles but elite is quite common on the road. So a reputed mechanic will be familiar with the vehicle. A couple thousand spent on a inspection can save you a fortune in the future.
  12. Out of your list of cars, Viva elite seems to be the one with closest manufactured year, hence least usage hypothetically. With age comes various problems even with normal use, So a relatively newer vehicle might be a safe bet for a low maintenance cost solution. Go and see some Elites out there for sale. Hopefully you will be able to find a well kept vehicle.
  13. Since the safety ratings came up in an earlier post, May I add that DFSK isn't even mentioned in the euroncap listing? Even Bajaj is mentioned as a manufacturer in Euro-NCAP. So their so called 5 star rating should be from C-NCAP. Which is nowhere near the standard Euro-NCAP or ANCAP. Comparing the CRV 5 star rating to 580 5 star rating is apples to tomatoes. DFSK is not a new brand to SL, their trucks have been here for at least 10-15 years. And being claimed the largest truck manufacturer in asia does not automatically make them magically birthing the perfect SUV. I believe TATA was the largest truck manufacturer in asia last few years, even FUSO and HINO must be ahead of DFSK in trucks department. China becoming the tech monopoly is unavoidable and even beneficial for the asian economy, there's no doubt on that. But lying is not the way to promote their products. (Which the Chinese don't do anymore). But misleading people about the safety of a vehicle is a big NO-NO in my book. That says a lot about the company these marketing agents represent.
  14. For me, Scotty comes off as a grumpy old man and who complains about everything modern and new. And the only knowledge he departs is "Buy a 20 year old celica, No mercedes, No tesla, No euros". Going through his comments you can find the same demographic. Chrisfix's H1 seems like a sweet setup. There's a new company called "MIL Spec" based in detroit which does this Duramax+Allison conversion for stock hummers. Jay leno had them on his channel recently. Wonder whether we can import hummers here, swap in a 2C engine and you are good to go.
  15. Congratulations on the new ride.
  16. Depends on the usage I guess, 65K for 6 years is too low to show any signs of wear IMO. The vehicle I referred to had 146K last I saw it.(2014 YOM). Removing the dash was the hard work during that repair. They have everything from weird bolt sizes to welded plastic tabs holding the dash to the metal. Vehicle becoming hard to work on is the norm as I see but Koreans examples are ahead of others following the Apple manufacturing ideology.
  17. Even 3.5mil seems too much for a navara these days. Forget rust and paint, injectors and pump repair will cost above 5lak easily. Navaras are known for their fuel system issues. And from driving one before, they do not feel solid on a rough road. Even my 23 year old Hilux feels better on rough terrain.
  18. Of course. Wasn't trying to hurt anybody's feelings. It's actually great that he's a real owner of the vehicle and happy with it, rather than a marketing agent from UML trying to persuade people.
  19. Here you go ?
  20. Or a new owner It's a new owner indeed, I saw a youtube review on a new DFSK 580 from the "Doctor"
  21. Is the E*-xxxx number scheme still in progress? I read somewhere RMV stopped issuing E* plates for old number plates.
  22. KIAs are a pain to work on if something comes up. One of my friends got a 2015 Sorento and recently replaced the AC evaporator. I'm sure a defender could have it's bulkhead swapped easier than that. They are designed so compact and space efficiently than their japanese counterparts. Which makes simple repairs 2-3 day projects ?. And they do not age well despite having fancy interior from factory. Door handles and interior plastic trim pieces are the first to go.
  23. Maybe this is the new defender 2020 people talk about. Made in India and all.
