  1. Don't worry... Nilantha's ghost has returned... U may ignore..
  2. Ah! that makes it three people, inclusive of ex-Honda lovers, eh?
  3. @ Watchman - U R quite right about about the absurdity of paying 300k-400k extra for these options. @ JAFF- Suggest you do a bit of searching before advising. There's no necessity to go for a "G" grade Axio to have the RPM meter in the dash. The X grades that come as HID selection as well as the special editions have the RPM meter. If you personally import these, there won't be much of a difference in the price paid for these special versions against the basic X grade. I happen to know a couple of people who did this and are quite happy about the value for money factor.
  4. No, it's not a plug and play gadget. In a layman's term, the circuit is redone and a specific station is tuned to a specific preset number. Eg: if your Car radio can have 6 channels saved, you can have six different stations of your choice newly programmed. You'll not be able to search and tune to any other channel. As far as I know, if you want the full band (88-108) used in SL, you'll need to have a new unit installed.
  5. Good. Point taken. U understand the concepts very well. Now go drive the CIVIC made in USA, reviewed in USA for conditions and standards in USA. In case somebody else is interested in my two cents: It's the driver... more than the car that makes a difference. You can Drive a Morris Minor or a Ferrari... A good driver will know the general capabilities of a car and will handle it accordingly. Reality is that SL roads aren't designed for high speed driving. If you drive like a madman and survive the trip, it's just that U were damn lucky, Nothing else..
  6. the eligible people will be different. they are looking at other Govt / boards, etc people who didn't qualify from the previous circular.. Going by the comments and some posts, it seems AL is being accessed more than the newspapers by some people... May be the mods can suggest some newspaper links to be available in AL site and a revenue sharing on redirected links....
  7. For the record, open papers were never allowed legally, in the first place!
  8. Is this a spec for 121 or Axio? I thought the four speakers and immobilizer are standard features for Axios?
  9. I agree on the value for money of Mazda and Mitsu... But, the tax structure apart, over pricing can be due to supply and demand dynamics, isn't it? If the market perception among the average SL buyer is reversed between Axela and axio , we'll be talking the exact opposit here... P.s.- I don't agree with the categerosation of "shit boxes" though: - Corolla's were not meant to be performance cars.. that's the reality... if one need performance cars on SL roads...by all means, go ahead.. the average sri lankan buyer is looking for a generally reliable family car and we should respect that..
  10. Try Panchikawatte.lk, or check with that Fiat india dude...
  11. yes... some questions might be: what's a smart key? what's the fuel efficiency of the ones with the smart keys... which joint in Darly road will programme my smart key... does Axio have CVT gear boxes? How to find CVT in Axio? How is the fuel efficiency of CVT will there be a difference in fuel consumption if I do a,b,c,d,e,f,g changes at Darly road... is there a link with fuel eficiency and the japanese TV/ navigation /audio... etc.. etc... hmmmm......
  12. well... assuming he agreed that you'll be given the car irrespective of an increase in costs, then it should work the other way as well, isn't it? by the way, is he going to pay any demurrage charges due to this action as well? better get this cleared... I may be wrong, but it's unlikely that there'll be a tax reduction within the next few days.. such an act requires a govt circular to be published, and reach the relevant parties... these take time... only simple things like constitutional amendments get cleared at the speed of light...
  13. Not necessarily... There was a recomendation from world bank or IMF sometime back to review this unfair tax structure. one argument was that the private sector contributes more to the economy and therefore they deserve to get duty concessions on vehicles. It's more about the overall quality of life... Anyway, the govt. should give a proper announcement on this tax thing and timelines... or else, end consumers as well as the govt are loosing heavily due to speculative pricing by the middlemen, not to mention the pressure on exchange rates due to increased demand..
  14. Why not the Corolla 110 and Bluebird U14? both may have more spares available than the Galant as well, isn't it?
  15. Ah Congrats on the choice.... at least the mother is thinking on the right lines... Anyway, this argument is mainly due to the CVT gear box, I believe. An oil change every 15k in SL conditions was what I was told sometime back by the agents.. it's upto you to decide, depending on how much you run a month... haven't heard of any other complaints.. I've only driven this a few times and it's quite a smooth car for it's class..

    Toyota Yaris

That's my point too mate... it's a question of priorities... For someone who travels 60km per day in this country, the condition of the specific vehicle you intend to buy, any known troubles in general, difficulties in resale are some of the more valuable areas to question... No point having a car that saves 2000 bucks a month on fuel, if it comes with costly repairs and frequent breakdowns... I'm not hinting Yaris has any of these.... just giving some common sense advice on looking at the total cost of maintaining a vehicle... If I were you, I'd look at the option of a Brand new Alto as well... and save a million in the process..

How many kilometers a month are you looking at here? what's the difference in rupees R U hoping to save per month? Seriously... if the difference of few rupees is the first concern people have when thinking of an investment option of 3Mn, they should be in the treasury.... Only they'll be concerned about decimal changes in a bulk purchase...
  18. I was thinking the same....
  19. Similar sentiments mate... though my first drive was in a different make... However.... I'm a converted man now.... a soft spot still for the first love... but def Honda fan... (Now, that's not being unfaithful, Ok... )
  20. Probably there's something in the "Chinthanaya" on saving the skin!!
  21. While U R at it, check this as well...
  22. Bro, the person who can give a conclusive answer to your question has the potential to be one of the richest on earth... as no one can accurately predict the future, the Japanese car auctions or the Govt policies in SL!! As some one pointed out in a different topic, the general prices can be obtained by giving a few calls or a few visits to the car sales... if you feel the prices are bloated to make a quick buck, you've three options... 1) check the car import procedure for personal use, find a party who'll bring down the vehicle, and hope for good.. 2) look at a lower priced make / model 3) invest the money elsewhere and enjoy the bus ride!
  23. No offence here... but why is it that people are willing to spend 5Mn for a car and make such a fuss on an extral km advantage on fuel, which generally doesn't save more than a couple of thousands the most a month.... I can understand the Maruti segment being so sensitive to this... but the Allion crowd....!!
  24. Heard that DFCC is giving a better rate than Commercial... even though we don't see much advertising.... Planning to call on Monday..
