  1. Well... according to the SL law the buyer should be cautious because he is liable for the asset and the dues... unless you got a letter signed by the previous owner agreeing to pay the dues for the period he used... (guess its too late now) The RMV is in better shape now. If you got to the accounting division at the 1st floor and gave them the number they will let you know of if any outstanding dues exist. You need to have a photocopy of the registration paper for this.
  2. Looks a bit like a Lambo... like it except the rims and the rear badges...
  3. it is not only the re-flashing. The tuneup includes cleaning of throttle body, air flow sensor and applying a fresh rubber seal. Believe me, it does make a difference. I do a tuneup every 25K or so, simply because it smoothen the engine and gives better pulling power with letter 'juice' burning.
  4. I've had the air flow sensor replaced of my own 'Sunny' near 50K (abt 2 years back). The first thing you experience is that the car is burning a lot of fuel and the pulling power going down the drains. I got the sensor from a joint at Hill Street Dehiwala, for 8K and replaced it. A*W recommends an engine tuneup after the replacement so I got it done too, and the car was back to normal (no.. it became better I guess, with better pulling power and less thirsty) When I asked about the sensor problem from the techies at the workshop they pointed out that the earlier version of the sensor came with 5 connecting leads connecting to it and the newer versions (with the defect fixed) comes with 4 connecting leads. So you can simply check this in the car that you're going to buy. And they also mentioned that the cars manufactured from 2001 have this new sensor as the factory default. da culprit. From my experience this is a good car with 1 design defect apart from the sensor problem. The front suspension assembly sits on one lower arm bush. The lower arm bush tends to break due to the poor condition of our roads. (I think in Corolla there are two lower arm bushes to compensate). Usually you will have to replace the bush at least once a year no matter how carefully you drive. The part is not available at the agents separately (you will have to replace the whole lower arm). The good news is that the separate bush is available at panchikawatte and any mechanic could replace it. Typically the total cost of replacement will be under 3000/=. Apart from these its a good car.
  5. You're welcome macho.

    Luxury Tax

Another thing (Boy, this tax business gets more an more complicated when you think about it! ) If my sources are correct the tax law was passed in 1995, and applies 7 years from the year of registration. So, what would happen to vehicles that are registered before 1995? I wish we had a website with all these legislation in place

    Luxury Tax

Bringing this old thread back. I also want to know the same. Anybody got an idea? What if you lost a Luxury tax payment receipt?
  13. If any of you have ever gone to the Traffic Police station near Nawaloka Roundabout you should have seen living proof of government earning big from fines. Get a radar detector! its worth the buck and the hassle.
  14. Well... I guess if one wants more MPG, they need to maintain their car very well. On time servicing with oil change, filter change (Oil/Air), cleaning the filters (Air/AC Micro-filter), and engine tuneup combined with careful driving will allow for maximum fuel economy in any car. Additionally I've seen a nifty 'Economy A/C' button in some cars...
  15. Sh!+ that's gotta hurt!

    Nissan Nv2500

I'd prefer the one with windows. Like the front styling, bit aggressive and kind of exotic at the same time.

    Toyota Ist 2008

OMG What has Toyota done to it???
  21. Agree. The Ford laser adds some convenient features like door step lights and extensible boot, pretty useful options.

    Nissan Xtrail Gt

I read the previous thread, and just could not believe the turbo coming on at 6000rpm. I think that there is some error there, Turbo coming on at 6000RPM for a motor redlining at 7200RPM  What's the use of that? The few motors with turbo that I've seen , have the turbo kicking in around 2000~2500RPM.
  23. Why can't we get Toyota, Nissan or Mitsu to come here? Because we are small market? or is it because the politicians ask for large bribes?
  24. One of my cousins got a 95 Familia for 9 lakhs 300 - (in my personal opinion he paid too much, but the car was in good condition. It was a fun vehicle to drive.

    Nissan Xtrail Gt

100% agree on the meter cluster. If there's anything I hate about XTrail it is the this awkward arrangement. There are many disadvantages of this arrangement including your spouse being able to read the speedometer... Can't think of any other reason for this than cost cutting. Can't forgive Nissan for being cheap... Any idea on the fuel consumption? Because of the turbo consumption should be higher than the normal neda?
