  1. Circular cancelling transfers cancelled. Now they are transferable again, aiyo sali
  2. Import controller has issued a circular giving relief to below 2500cc, subject to Clearing the vehicle by 28th Feb 2015 Registration within 2 weeks Cannot transfer for 4 years One car per person
  3. Ohh.. i dream of LaFerrari, McLaren P1, Porsche 918
  4. Try SK M********e (Dunlop) they are positive on special orders. Shipping charges depends on volume, SL customs will whack you on duty may not be worth the cost. Agents will have the advantage of discount plus shipping charges cos they get down in container loads.
  5. If the numbers are true loss of expected revenue if concessions are given would be 3,000 * 650,000 = 1.95 Bn. How would one expect the govt. recover this they will have to increase taxes from other sources, may be essential items. Besides I don’t think all 3,000 of them are personal imports, they may be much less. Importers can absorb this cost cos they were making 300-400 k on each vehicle and they doge tax too.
  6. It has droped by JPY 300-400k (FIT/Aqua/Axio/Vezel) it looks like auctions are pilling up with unsold Hybrids after our mini budget
  7. Any way this will be a good time to buy Hybrid in Japanese auction as prices have crashed. Incremental effect on the new tax for a person importing now will be about Rs. 200-300k for a small hybrid (FIT/Aqua)
  8. No, I brought Honda FIT few weeks back it does around 14-15 kmpl in city (way out of claimed) I’m sure the ICE FIT might not be way off. Hybrid made sense not due to their economy but for low purchase price due to the huge tax discrepancy that prevailed. ICE car of the same type cost more even if you get it down on a permit (inclusive of permit price) eg: Axio Rs. 4-4.5 Mn. against Rs. 5-5.5 Mn. I do feel for the people affected, but one must also understand the risks associated. Tax disparity was way too much and a correction was needed. Even now it is 92% or so Vs 160% or so
  9. After much thought i settled for R****l gloss tile 2x1 ft, 8 year back so far no complains
  10. CVT came with 1.5 L
  11. In fact I remember being in a Prius Cab with 68k on clock and last service tag hanging from the wiper stalk that indicated over 200k. You need to be extra careful when buying Prius/ Insight/ Allion/ Axio as they are being run as cabs. As individuals have hired them to cab companies most of them come in to second market as personally used.
  12. Apperantly there is a way to check the actual mileage from ECU which can not be altered (unless you change the ECU,I suppopse) I was told by a frend that De S***a motors have this facility, may be the agent can too
  13. Totally agree, 318 semi-luxury, 320d not, CRV/ RAV 4/ X-Trail semi-luxury X3d, Q5 d not
  14. They would have imposed this tax based on calculations with expected revenue from LCs already open. If concessions given that loss need to come from somewhere else, they may have to increase “Kotthamalli” Bite the bullet and try to find a way to finance the short fall, to my knowledge they have never given any concessions.
  15. In an ideal world it will depend on who much of running you would do and how long you intend to keep the car. If you are doing only 1000 km per month and wish to keep a for 5 years you will do 60k, so a 100k car seems right when you sell it would have around 160k. General formula is if you are a doing low mileage go for high mileage car and if you are a high milage better to go for a low mileage to same on potential maintenance of high mileage car. However in SL price difference does not vary much with mileage and most of the cars are clocked especially the Toyotas and Nissans. So your 100k “generally the magic mileage of the used car” could be actually 250k.
  16. Imported I Hybrid (FIT GP5) last month, thank god. Rationale was the lower purchase price and not kmpl, I would have opted for the ICE if I could get it down for Rs. 3.5-3.7 Mn. Sadly idiotic tax system at the time did not allow that, ICE would have cost me over Rs. 4.0-4.5 Mn. Tax discrepancy of 57.5% hybrid and 173% or so for ICE was not feasible. And the way Hybrids were coming in to the county this was inevitable. For god sake they were bringing down Rage rovers and S Class mercs, just thing about the revenue and exchange loss for the country. Anyway darn thing does 14-15 kmpl, I’m sure I would have got 11-12 kmpl on ICE so much for the economy.
  17. Hybrid prices will not increase by the amount of duty increase, already overpriced auction prices have crashed in Japan expect Rs. 300-400k reduction in CIF

    Allion A15 Or A18 ?

Allions imported recently came through permits there is a tax difference 65% against 70% this may be one of the reasons. But I think extra 5% is well worth as you get a better engine / economy if you are a spirited driver
  19. Nope, they are asking Corolla AE100 money, which is better looking and a better car
  20. Your friend is right, license is not the only issue you will have to stick to bus / lorry speed limits forget it

  22. Where did you do the tune up, better take it to the agents and do a thorough scan, could be a sensor issue. When did you last change transmission fluid. A friend of mine had a similar issue and agents just cleared some sensor error s and it was ok, apparently ECU was getting wrong signals, they told him to come back if the issue persists to replace the sensor which he didn’t have to. Cost was Rs 1,600/- or so
  23. Luxury Tax Diesel Motor Cars exceeding 2500 cc and Petrol Motor Cars exceeding 2000 cc Semi Luxury Tax Diesel Motor Cars from 2201 to 2500 or Diesel Jeeps exceeding 2200 cc and Petrol Cars from 1801 to 2000 cc or Petrol Jeeps exceeding 1800 cc Semi Luxury Tax (Dual Purpose) Diesel Cabs exceeding 2200 cc and Petrol Cabs exceeding 1800 cc
  24. I thought of writing this to inform any prospective person who is considering a personal vehicle import of the potential risk involved. I personally imported a car last month, it was arranged by a local agent who got me the vehicle through a Japanese auction and I was issued a Performa invoice through a Japaneese company owned by a Sri Lankan. Price was quoted as CIF (Cost + Insurance + Freight) which is usually the case and LC (Letter of Credit) was established. When the documents came to the Bank I was informed that the insurance certificate was not there and they asked me whether I would like to accept documents without it. Since the vehicle is already on the way not wanting any delays I accepted the documents thinking that they have forgotten to forward the certificate. After a couple of weeks similar incident happened to another colleague which raised suspicion and when inquiries were made from the shipper they were giving various excuses. Even the bank officials were saying it is the case in most of the instances. Implications of this are If something happen to the ship on the way or the vehicle get damaged on transit importer (you) will have the bear the loss. Shipper will get a way as the only option for you will be to sue him for damages not taking insurance as quoted in the Performa, which will basically be very costly and impractical. The bank will get a way as you have accepted a discrepancy discharging of their liability. You will have several options Get the Performa C & F (Cost + Freight) and do the insurance locally before shipping Do not accept the discrepancy and let the Bank go back and forth without retiring the bill till the ship comes in so at lest you will now that there will not be a total loss and then accept it and retire. Of course there will be a cost, bank charges etc. Good luck
  25. Owned one for 2 years really a sweet runabout, diven a Viva, comment was made comparative to the vehicles under discussion. It is not only me just google and see couple of reviews, not in the same league of small Peugeots and Fords but good enough
