  1. Hmmm
  2. Agreed, and no offense was meant to school van drivers either, that's their source of income. But there's no excuse for the lethal levels of emissions from a lot of vehicles. Not just vans but every type of vehicle, especially a lot of buses, where no maintenance of any sort seems to be performed. Colombo has some of the worst air pollution levels around, on some days more than twice the acceptable level in developed countries. Are there even emissions standards being enforced around town? Some time ago the government made a big noise about taking action against vehicles which weren't complying to vehicle emission standards(if we even have those), and there were even pics in the papers of cars being stopped and tested by cops. All that seems to have died down though, whereas in many other countries, some of the vehicles we see in Colombo would not even be allowed to run on the road in their present state. They don't have our dear old 2stroke 3 wheeled beasts though And again, its a no-win situation because so many depend on that for their income. Sorry for the digression from the topic though.
  3. That of course I don't know Personally I hate the overflow of vans on our streets, a lot of van drivers act like maniacs on the road, (unfortunately a lot of them are school vans) not to mention the fact that tons of them seemed to be rarely tuned, and leave a trail of exhaust gas which makes you wonder if an atom bomb exploded in their engine..
  4. Can't argue with that I think Seriously does any other country on earth have so many vans
  5. Yea I remember some publicity a couple of years back when Ferrari was planning on giving it to the Vatican as gift to celebrate some anniversary. Anniversary of the Pope that is, not of Ferrari's. So they gave it then? Wonder if the Pope used it :alc:
  6. hmm ? I think she's the one who reaches the mass audience through her videos, and she's the one making the public statement, so in the end our artiste is the one giving the negative vibes isn't she
  7. I've heard his kits could weigh as much as the car itself Maybe I should take my 1.3L Sunny to him, I'm sure he could make it Autovision material in no time... Actually some of his kits do look nice (when applied in moderation). Most of them look way too gaudy though, and usually everything seems overdone. Specially the vans Er was Dumi#da commenting on a Fib#x car btw?
  8. Mariner I donno it's from a song I was listening to at the time, wouldn't mind changing it now but thats not an option I guess Sailing's kind of opposite to driving on the street eh And yea you have summed it up best, shame that the people who are supposed to uphold the law are among the most corrupt..I guess Sri Lanka is just one of those countries
  9. Saw a video of the crash, the car gets ripped apart. Travelling so fast you can barely see it. Very sad, but part of the sport I guess..
  10. Wtf?? What business is this of theirs?? Crazy Frustrated Perverts is right And golden rule number 1 with our cops I think is not to pretend you can't speak Sinhala if you can, because sometimes they rudely tell you not to talk in English, "danna baasawakin katha karapang" is what they told a guy I know who tried showing off in english
  11. I don't think there will be a problem with the International Licence. And you can use any foreign licence, but you have to get a letter of certification from the AA office at galle face. Anyway I know plenty of people who use their US and UK licences, without even the letter and they havent had trouble. One guy got stopped and the cop had sent him off without a charge after seeing the foreign license
  12. Ah yea depends on the situ of course. And I wonder if they're less prone to making a fuss about an European car having tinted windows as opposed to a Japanese one
  13. Ya how does the crazy tax issue apply to this?
  14. There's also a website where you can book a car to use when you arrive in SL after paying a $150 deposit. I think reservations are only for 3 weeks but you can extend it. Don't know if I'm allowed to post the site but just google Sri Lanka Car Rental and you'll come across it. As for the car, I guess any Japanese sedan will do if you don't need a van.
  15. I don't think cops care about whether the car is European or not anymore..I've seen a fair share of mercs and BMW's pulled over for whatever reason. They're probably more prone to asking for the "fine" on the spot when its one of those cars though Oh and in reply to ur question, Overdrive, I think you're supposed to be able to complain to the Bribery Commission/Human Rights Commission regarding this, but of course you'll have to know the cops' registration number etc. Apparantly cops get scared when you threaten to complain, cos it messes up their career and stuff, but then again some people offer the bribes without the cops asking for it, and they take it anyway Last year I was letting a friend off near raheema close to the turn where Bagatalle road falls onto Cumaratunga mw. I stopped for barely 5 seconds to let the guy off, and pulled off again when a cop pulled me over a little past the turn. He had also ticketed all the cars that were parked there. The funny thing is there was no board or line saying "No parking" in that particular area. There was one a little up ahead, and those concrete things on the pavement, but nobody was parked near those. Even if the people who were parked had done sumthing wrong, I hadn't since I had just stopped for a few seconds, not even on the main road. The guy was so rude that I asked him to show me exactly where it said "no parking" in the place I had stopped, to which he had no answer and said don't park here again I spoke to someone at the Cinnamon Gardens police station and asked what the hell this cop had been talking about. his reply : "if he feels like it he can fine people for parking there." I patiently explained that I hadn't "parked," certainly not on the main road, and there was no yellow lines or no-parking sign there. The guy hung up on me
  16. True dude, in SL at least, it always depends on the cop. And yea that good-cop bad-cop thing is know to happen all the time, I guess the best way to get out of most trouble is to be civil with them.

    Pulsar Vzr N1

    Awesome
  18. This isn't about a legality in motoring per se, but I wonder if there's anyone out there who can give some advice on this situ. A week ago a friend of mine had been parked near Independance Square and had been showing his girlfriend some pics from his laptop, cos he had returned from a couple of months abroad. It was probably around 9pm. A cop had come and rapped on the car with his pistol, and had asked my friend to step out, and rudely asked "thamusela h*********?" (Are you'll f-in in there). Funny thing was my friend was parked near a street light, the last place he would've chosen if he had ulterior motives He was told there there is a law saying you can't be with a woman in your own car. My friend replied that he had no knowledge about such a law, and had simply been showing some pictures on his laptop. The cop had been extremely rude to him infront of the girlfriend. My friend isn't very fluent with sinhala but his GF is, and she wasn't very amused. Anyway the cop had threatened to fine him, wen my friend said he would rather take the issue to courts, cos he suspected the cop was asking for a bribe. In the end he got away without paying anything, I guess the cop could see he wasn't guilty. I asked a few people and they couldn't tell us anything about such a law. I don't think calling a police station and asking about it is such a good option for him So does anyone know about a law saying a guy and a girl can't be seated in a parked car alone on the road? I mean yea I can see the possible connotations, and the fact that the car was parked on a public road, but I don't think it's right for cops to assume things either. Not to mention come knocking on the car with a gun. It's your own car after all. I remember on the old forum someone had written about a friend who had been pulled up for a similar thing at parliament grounds, but he happened to be a lawyer and humbled the cop. I doubt I'd be able to find that post though, so any info about this is appreciated.
  19. Well said, not to mention, a loud exhaust seems to be an advertisement for the cops to pay special attention to you these days..
  20. I don't know what a beat barrel is but I'm assuming you mean a performance exhaust? Is it only in Sri Lanka that they call it a beat barrel Cos theres nothing on google about it. Anyway that aside.. Er are you sure about that low consumption thing? I think you mean should not make consumption too high.. Why complain if fuel consumption is low Well fixing one of those will probably not affect your performance unless you take some other steps as well, like modifying the whole exhaust system, putting straight through piping, messing with the engine headers etc. I've heard you can gain about 15hp if you do the whole job correctly. Just putting a big pipe will probably not do anything other than reduce backpressure a bit and give you some good noise Anyway i'm sure theres tons of people in here that can help you out with that. Oh and someone said Elcardo has rust problems?? Anyway good luck
  21. Hey dude.. I'm in San Antonio too. Where abouts is your place?
  22. Believe it or not she's pretty well known in the USA. Somone asked me about her, and I hadn't even heard of her. Later he sed that she's a Sri Lankan. Funny thing is most of the people who listen to her in the USA don't know where Sri Lanka is And I had a listen to her song Galan or sumthing, I'm not a fan of that kind of thing but she truly was pretty laughable

    Skyline Sedan...

Isn't this also the same as the USA's Infiniti G35? Looks like that. The 2006 version of the car are around $30,000 here. I think the ones A*W were selling were recons of the equivalent of the 2002 Infiniti G35. I think auto came only on 3.5 L (both 2 and 4 door versions i think) and at the time they were going for 4.1 Mil (around August 2004). I've seen a few around Sri Lanka, Dark blue, champagne and also a Maroon one parked somewhere opposite the Durdan's car park. The Blue one I've seen parked on Union Place (not at the A*W showroom:P). Donno how much they are now though
  24. Yea I haven't seen that last one either. Who knows maybe shes dyed her hair anyway
  25. In order to unravel the paradox that is mankind, we need to examine the word itself: ‘Mankind‘. Interestingly it consists of two separate words- ‘mank’ and ‘ind’. What do these words mean? it’s and enigma, and so is mankind. ‘Politics‘ also consists of two words, ‘poly’ meaning ‘many’ and ‘ticks’ as in ‘tiny bloodsucking parasites’.
