  1. BMW E21 on the other site, diesel converted and god knows what he's done to the rear suspension. I died a little inside.

I remember a diesel converted Alfa mentioned on here a while back, that was it.

  2. FWIW, I would buy an Indian built electric car. The REVA/G-WIZ gained partial traction in europe, and I've seen at least 4 different cars on the roads in the past 10 or so years. There's a new REVA made by Mahindra, but that is absolutely positively fugly. An electric Nano though, that is indeed something worth considering. The new ICE powered Nanos have power steering and an opening hatch (!!!) which makes it alright in my books for driving around town in.
  3. Fisker has gone belly up no? Plus they like to spontaneously combust. Also the fact that it has an engine might classify it as a hybrid, even though it's just a generator.
  4. Pulsar GTiR for sale somewhere else. Judging by the rice factor, not owned by an enthusiast who understands what the car represents.

      rice or curry? kidding!

  5. Check for loose trim bits inside the car, center console, the pillars and rear cargo area. Also make sure there's nothing loose in the cubby, or in other storage orifices. The hatch may also make a juddering sound if not seated properly, check the beading for that.
  6. There's a place on Pagoda road that caters for Korean vehicles as well. I don't remember the name, but they have a lot of signage prominently displaying their line of work.
  7. I bought mine from a car sale, a joint on Dutugemunu street. Our experience was pleasant enough. He was referred to us though, so we went in having assurances.
  8. Pretty sure they're replaceable. The backlight of the LCD in my Vios went out as well, and it was replaced easily enough. Now a TFT display, that's different.
  9. The side air registers are twist units, there's no longer a beige dashboard, and they replaced maroon as an exterior colour with brown. The LCD UI has a few changes as well, and I'm guessing the HSD has a few firmware tweaks too because the ICE kicking in is slightly more refined in the facelift, especially when at low speeds.
  10. I've been entertaining the notion of converting one to electric. RS Turbo with AMT and AWD. Yes.
  11. Okay, since I don't want to further pollute the thread, I'll say this here; people who believe that driving a hybrid less than a 100kms provides diminishing returns, where's your proof? One could argue that driving a regular car less than 100kms is no different. The deciding factor is traffic, it's as simple as that. After all, how efficient is driving 100kms in 4 hours?

  12. Really? Apart from the Japanese SUVs and the Corolla and Mazda 3, the rest of the Japanese hybrids have no regular equivalent. I think you're thinking about Euros which are much higher in the price range.
  13. Toyota HSD's drive train is much much simpler than any conventional drive train. It really has no gearbox, just a planetary gear system hooked up to a reduction drive.
  14. Hah! Did you take that from the Traffic Violations thread? Schiffer was posting on it while high!
  15. Did not really bother reading this thread till now. Great bit of DIY. I was thinking that for testing injector operation, one could easily build a modulator using an Arduino. Edit: and obviously it has been done
  16. I meant public transport; staff transport doesn't really work for me since I have no fixed time for leaving the office. The "simple theory" of leaving home early doesn't work either I leave 2 hours early; after 07:00 the streets in and around the Kotte area packed until 08:30 or so. Apart from the economy and time, there are other intangible things such alone time, the ability to play music really loud, a comfortable place to sit in, the ability to carry on a conference call in peace, have breakfast and/or a smoke on the go. But mostly, step into the office not feeling like I've just been in the wringer. And also my company provides me with fuel, so there's that as well. Edit: and just to note, the focus of the topic is no longer on why use a hybrid vehicle to travel 10kms to the office, but using a vehicle in general vs other forms of transport.
  17. Definitely. What's wrong with that? I bought a hybrid because it's more efficient to run. My office drive is only 11kms, but it takes me at least 45 minutes to get there by car, and today it took me over an hour because there was a huge jam at the Kotte junction. By bus it takes even longer, not to mention the being packed to the brim like fish in a tin and sweating my arse off to boot. My car usually spends more time in EV mode (~65%) per tank of fuel, and the average speed is always less than 20km/h unless I take it for a 100+km drive out of Colombo. How you say "cheap" is a bit ambiguous, but in general, they are not cheap to buy, and maintenance costs the same as any car built in the last 5 years. They are more efficient to run, which translates into economy, therefore not the same thing as "cheap". Edit: I also get between 550 and 650km per tank of fuel vs 320km my Vios.
  18. Do you mean to say extra airbags are still options, whereas they should be standard across all trim levels?
  19. So are people in Sri Lanka even aware of the Takata airbag fiasco? Among the JDM cars named is the Vitz, specifically those made between 2004 and 2008, all of which I'm sure have been imported here (exaggeration).

Prestige, at least replaced the one in my E46 FOC

  20. It's a necessary evil. Porsche are still alive today thanks to their SUV. Lots of car manufacturers, even luxury brands, have realised this. It's only natural Mitsubishi would want a piece of that pie as well. When I lived there, every old Pajero I saw was a rebadged Dodge Raider, and I probably saw less than 10 Monteros in and around the Southern states.
  21. Wait till the Modellista parts come for the JDM models.
  22. How much potential trouble would I be in if I bought a Pug 405 Estate?

Talk to harshana senadhira, I don't think there are many pug experts here now.

  24. Yeah he is. There used to be a red one in Kirulapona, but I haven't seen it in a few years. Gummy's turn.
