  1. is it possible to import a partially or fully disassembled car with a complete body, under some sort of a permit, to repair an accident damaged vehicle? the car in question is an alfa 156
  2. yeah! buy a Frankenstein
  3. "these seatbelts are so annoying. I know! I'll take them off when I get on the expressway cos who's gonna notice anyway when I'm driving past everyone at high speeds in the middle of the night" -words of a Darwin award nominee
  4. mal light!
  5. you can't do a Noah conversion while retaining an opening 5th door. even if you cut the interior trim panel from the middle it wont fit the rearmost section properly because of the odd shapes of the pillars and there's no way you can fit the other piece to the door because the space for the window on the trim is too big for the window on the door. thats the most fundamental problem. even if you somehow get around it there are million other issues to address. so the best way to do it is by sealing the door. anyway there was a 5 door noah called the remix http://exchange.goo-net.com/usedcars/TOYOTA/TOWNACE_NOAH/700051035420110928001/index.html BUT if you click on the pics you can see it has the same bare bones upholstery you already have in your van so that doesn't work either
  6. what about undisciplined pedestrians mate? that woman ought to have noticed that the vehicle approaching her is not travelling at a speed to stop smoothly. and what did she do after the crash happened? walked away quietly and went on with her life as if nothing happened? while that poor motorist had to deal with another moronic bus driver? I find this a very unnecessary tax on the motorist. pedestrians don't pay anything for using the roads (fuel duty, revenue license fees) and whenever they are at a crossing they think they got a god given right to cross whenever they like. and whats gonna happen if we swerve between them or don't let them cross because we can't stop? there's a cop waiting around the corner looking to add something to his daily booze budget, I think ultimately we are left with two choices the leyland bus up your a$$ or having your car torched after running the idiot over. why the hell can't these cops just lock up these idiots in blinkers without taking the poor motorist down?
  7. I think you are missing the point. If you read the daily mirror article more carefully you'll see the idea is to kiss your a$$ goodbye and jump into backseat every time you see a pedestrian or a guy on a bike. not saying its their fault that they got themselves killed. but almost all the people who died weren't in a car. and I think that's saying something
  8. my buddy said he lets them pull up to him and then put his foot down. I bet there's nothing more embarrassing than watching a 2 litre diesel saloon pulling away from your v8 while its being floored. So I guess that works too
  9. Came home this morning on the expressway on my way back from una. The cop at the entrance said the speed limit is 120. I was driving the Noah and kept it at 80 at the beginning cos the michelins are on the last leg. eventually I got bored and put my foot down. This was my first time on the E01 and must say I was pretty impressed. Discipline was good except for the odd idiot. There was a van on the hard shoulder with a huge family having a picnic or something. two D*MO battas were driving side by side on the same lane at one point, the only time I had to use the horn. that goes to prove the lanes are actually wide enough. A Land cruiser went past me with headlights on and he was sticking permanently to the overtaking lane. I was with a friend who took his 320d to 230 there sometime back. He said a lot of landcruiser drivers do this. So It seems to be turning into a bit of a cult. He also said the road isn't done that well cos he felt big bumps at around 200. I think this issue was brought up by quite a few people here. Well I didnt feel any bumps at legal speeds and I don't think this is a concern at all because those are the speeds the roads built to accommodate. spending extra on engineering to accommodate speeds only a handful of drivers would achieve is a waste in a country like ours. My only criticism about the construction is the bridges not having a hard shoulder. some of them were very long and having a breakdown on them would spell big trouble. Loved watching how towns were dispatched one after the other with great ease when it would have been a mission to tackle them on the A2 On a side note the Italian tune up thing happened to the Noah and now I can feel a nice surge whenever the turbo comes on.
  10. like Nilantha said you can't do a complete conversion while retaining 5 opening doors. either you'll have to seal the 5th door or weld a side cut off an original noah. sealing the door is cheaper but results could vary and its very time consuming. installing an original noah side cut is the best choice because it gives the most original look and if it came with the cavity for the rear a/c unit it saves even more time. however the side cut alone could cost you upto 250000 rupees.
  11. now that's downright dangerous. the lanes aren't wide enough to accommodate such speeds in corners. I really hope this won't get implemented.
  12. dude you are turning out to be a real camel. what you have is an A15. an A15 with no characters after it. there was another version in japan called the "A15 standard package" without the features I mentioned earlier. here's a page off the original allion brochure so you can see it for yourself http://www.net-park.co.jp/etc/toyota/carimgdisp.php?photo=CATA/2314/2314-17.jpg&cnt=29 see how the 2 models are presented seperately? I hope you stop dissing your own car now calling it the base model.
  13. I don't think its wrong to undertake. If you are undertaking that means there was already enough space in the left for the vehicle you are about to pass to move to and make space for you. So if anything its the other persons fault, to be driving on the fast lane when the left lane is empty. I wish the cops understood this and start taking down these lane hoggers one by one.
  14. Wrong again! What you have is a normal a15. there's a cheaper version below it. it was sold with both the 1.5 and 1.8 l engines check out this link http://exchange.goo-net.com/usedcars/TOYOTA/ALLION/700040136320111028004/index.html
  15. wrong! it does come without push start on the "standard package". this model is easy to identify because it doesn't come with black plastic surrounds on the window frames. and it doesnt have climate control.
  16. go for the 1000cc version. its way more competent than 1000cc engines of old. and keeps up with bigger engined cars without much trouble. also the fuel consumption is slightly better. you'll get 1-2 km/l more than the 1300 and it'll be relatively easier to sell. also you'll be saving 300k so you could get some nice alloys and tyres for it. that said if you are going for a more expensive "i'll" or rs version you can't get the 1000cc engine with it. and if somebody who's thinking of getting the 3rd generation vitz is reading this go for the 1.3. its a new engine and with the smart stop function its fuel economy is astonishing.
  17. So when you are not preaching people not to exceed the speed limit on the expressway is this what you do? egging people in fast cars to put their foot down on urban roads? tut tut! I'm not gonna call you a hypocrite cos someone else will do that for me.
  18. go speak to the ombudsman like miniace said. or just casually mention you are considering visiting the ombudsman to your insurance agent. most insurance people shiver even when they hear the word ombudsman. so you'll definitely get something out of this. I wish more people were aware of this service. So Insurance companies can't fool around like this.
  19. are you sure? that was me btw. I asked coupla importers and they both qouted more or less the same price.
  20. uh oh! a gtr coming from essex. I really wouldn't wanna sit in the back seat of that thing
  21. let me guess you got both a belta and a 121 for sale on AL classifieds
  22. Also the donor cars aren't always in best nick. they are nearly 20 years old to begin with and most of them are high milers. unless the kit comes from a pristine example. those would be pretty expensive to buy and its always a shame breaking up a good car
  23. for a moment I thought I was on the autolanka funniest moments thread
  24. alarming stuff! I guess I should be glad the injectors still work. but funny I don't feel shivers or disgusted that parts of my car have been manhandled
  25. first the mechanic removed the injectors cleaned them from them outside. then he attached a tube to the top end of each injector, sprayed the fluid into the tube and pressing down with his thumb to maintain a higher pressure. then using two wires he attached to the connectors on the injector earlier he gave it power using a normal car battery and repeated the process several times.
