  1. In the early 90's my father and I located a W108 280SEL 3.5 V8. The only visible problem was that the auto gearbox had gone bust. The rest of the car was in great condition. At that time with minimal mechanical knowledge we just let it go
  2. Great car even if I am not so fond of the looks. I think Schuey bought an SS.

  4. Damn I missed the girls thanks to a cloud over our house (sigh - Dialog TV). Thankfully it cleared on the warm up lap. Still can't forget the girls from last weeks' Mugello MotoGP though Especially in the Suzuki uniform!
  5. Had a slim chance of doing this earlier this year as I planned to travel to Germany and Austria. But sadly I had to put it on hold thanks to the economic situation especially with my business. My pal in Germany was insisting we do it in his A-class but I was insisting on something faster. Oh well thanks to Mahindanomics we'll have to just dream a bit more....
  6. Hamilton and Nico have been penalized for the next race and righly so IMHO - failing to stop at the red light ! How biased is Steve Slater !?? I could've thown a shoe at my TV. Was blaming the FIA rules when all what happened was that Lewis went colour blind and hit a stationary car. Only a few minutes ago when Button was penalized for something - I think pitting with the safty car on, he said "Rules are rules!"
  7. They've sold 11. Starting price 23 mill
  8. You're probably right. But for Sri Lanka they usually specify heavy duty springs. Yes actually many people buy many cars because of their neigbour's oppinion. Very shallow. But here Benz means better resale. A bit like Toyota.
  9. Yes that's an idea but you have to wait a year to get an 'original' copy. The ones available right after the movie premiere are lousy camera copies. That said, there's nothing like going to a cinema for me.......Pop corn and Portello Actually its the only instance I drink a sweet fizzy drink . And yes my chasers are fizzy but never sweet
  10. Camper van track day ? 'Ring times of around 1/2 hour ?

    Alfa Romeo

    Not a bad idea.
  12. Just heard that 8 bullet proof Merc S600 are on the way with 8 dummies! (for dummies? )
  13. Actually the grille might be the most "un-copied" detail. Its simply that it lacks the clean lines and the cohesion of previous Ferraris. There's too much fussy details and weak lines. Like American and Japanese designs. Not surprising when the previous design director at Pinin Farina was Jap Ken Okuyama and the previous design boss at Ferrari was an American Frank Stephenson. Undoutably they have had a lot of influence. In the metal its said to be a lot better according to TG mag, but still I'm not convinced. At least its good to know that the Lexus IS like stacked tail pipes actually serve the purpose and are not just deco like in the Lex.

A TG video lots of Alfas.
  15. Absolutely. I had never seen this concept until now, although maybe there was a Matchbox model of this?. Looks very Giugiaro, and you can catch a glimpes of the Ital Design board on top. I'm sure it would've been far too adventurous for the sensible Germans. Gugiaro just mistook Porsche for Lambo. What a stunner!

    Alfa Romeo

Likely to be a scary nightmare. Properly maintained ones are likely to be twice the price.... But then Alfas of this age tend to drop like bombs. I guess the equalent Audi or Beemer with be at least 50% more.
  17. Direct Injection for better efficiency and 'economy'. Now there's a reason you should change your mind and bring one anyway
  18. heh heh sure. I don't hate him either. I should've said most.

    Yes a 75, Spider S3 and a GTV.
  20. Only in the Euro and Italian Championships with the GPunto S2000. Rumour has it that they want to make a WRC debut in the future. Pity it won't be Lancia though.
  21. Phew that was fast indeed. Could it be the TATA effect? I mean they should be able to strengthen the marketing of the brand in Asia.
  22. Rumour says Fiat. As he's very passionate about the brand.

Hey good decision Mika. I know an old car does not make sense in modern traffic etc. But hang on to it as a weekend drive. Plus you have your father to fettle it! Lucky you. Driving in SL can be great................ though out of Colombo ONLY. Especially the hill country. Where the roads are interesting and the climate a lot better. Now I miss my Giulia evenmore
  24. You're probably right. We probably did not get the full dose like with Ham . I recall that he ran out of fuel very close to the finish line in one race and started pushing the car... Heh heh yes everyone seems to hate Alonso but I agree he is so good. And I wish he was in the current BMW instead of the Renault. Poor Jean Alesi had to drive real dogs all his F1 life. Ferraris made some crap racing cars then..... MS.....my all time hero - planning the next two pits stops while charging at 110% . Will we ever see another like him? Hard to imagine. I think we're lucky that we witnessed the reshaping of racing history and the making of a legend.
