  1. How come you want to change the colour becaue the finish isn't good? What makes you sure that a new colour will bring out a better finish? I'm guessing it's a case of the painter cocking things up. Nothing to do with the colour.

  3. It's not easy for someone who hasn't driven or better still owned one to appreciate them. So bragging at parties will get him no where. And new Alfas are more reliable than you think. JC seems to have forgotten the huge price difference between the Mini and Mito. Btw steering set up is being changed by the dealers very soon. So it will be back to feeling like fondling proper boobs again (as usual) !!!
  4. I bet you're going to say, "The name's Mafia, Kotte Mafia" when you hand the keys to the valet?
  5. Impressive list Zonda, but where did the Brera GTA come from? It's unlikely to ever be launched!
  6. No expense spared Wow. This is happening right?
  7. Impressive choice Prad. Brings out the billionaire playboy in you
  8. Slightly OT but who is Claudio Castiglioni?
  9. As attractive as it is. The 147 GTA was a flawed car. Loads of torque steer, and that V6 is not light up front there. The Mito is the lightest car in the class and the new 1750 engine is class leading. This is going to be a cracker, faster than the 147 GTA around any track. The only fly in the oinment is the cheap rear sus. But then if the Civic Type R can get away with it, I'm sure this will do too.
  10. Ok my two cents worth....... I know this won't be popular. Why should outsiders poke their fingers in our business? Coz we've been screwing up since forever! It's our politicians who created the damn LTTE don't forget! India used them to their advantage, trained and armed them. Now since India is a power house and the LTTE got out of control, they need to stabilize the region. I hope everyone realizes that this is the FIRST time in history that India has been AGAINST the LTTE when our army has tried to destroy them. Have we forgotten the parrippu bombardment we got? And the Inod-SL accord that Rajiv Gandhi forced down our throats? We Sri Lankans forget too soon as even Prabakaran says. Just look at the numbers between our forces and the LTTE. We should have won the war ages ago. But big brother was protecting the terrorists. Now big brother is with our brothers . And don't be surprised if you find that our country is already sold by the time the war is over. Our economy is in dire straits there's a lot LESS than meets the eye. We need all the foreign friends we can have. And the damn govt. knows this. Why else hug the IMF loan which they ridiculed a couple of years back? If we were economically strong things might have been different. Beggars can't be choosers. We are beggars right now. We've neglected the economy big time. We need foreign aid. But the govt. will tell you otherwise. So don't be fooled by their propaganda. They are on this patriotic trip that wins votes. We are not a lonely planet on our own in the universe. We need others support. If we take their help we need to conform to their requests. Which are fair. What about the civilians killed by the LTTE? It's despicable of course. But that does not mean a govt. can go around killing civilians as well. Or put another way be careless. You and I sitting in our A/Cd Colombo or suburban rooms will probably never be able to imagine the suffering of a displaced civilian who's been harassed all his or her life, lost everything and is in constant anxiety of getting a shell on their arse or a bullet through their skull. I think the people in the A/Cd rooms in NY are better informed on this subject. After all (again, this is not going to be popular) ...... Most of them are countries who have got things right. Developed themselves into great nations. Before anyone starts snorting at this.... think about where most people in countries like ours wish to migrate to...!!!!! We have all sorts of excuses about why we have not developed. It's easy to blame the terrorist problem, yes. But isn't that the cause of something more fundamental? We even blame the Invaders who colonized our country. Why were they able to? Because we were screwing around, even at that time. And we are still at it!!! 50 odd years on! As much as I want to see the back of the evil LTTE I also dream of a Sri Lankan leader who truly loves our country and will stand up for what is right and not what is popular with the foolish masses. Someone brave enough to stick to firm principals and put the country first, not their pockets. Until then don't count your eggs..... Gotta go now, I see a white van at the door

    Gee Class

Scary. And I thought Jay Kay was bonkers when he bought his V8 one
  12. Another theory is that certain cars became an instant fad. One gem merchant buys one and it instantly becomes the accepted benchmark. When an instant millionaire is born after finding a stone or too, he wants a car but knows nothing about them. Safest bet is to follow thy neighbour. One of my pals from the town has told me how people just wanna keep up with the Jones'. I remember when I was little I used to spend my holidays in Avissawella with my aunt and unc. I used to watch cars fly past on the Ratnapura road and the Gem deals on Sundays. Initially there were loads of Peugeots 504s and 404s. Then there were swarms of Datsun 120Ys Then came the "box" and it took over!
  13. Nah nah it's just playing Lightening McQueen
  14. Not a fan of the 2nd Gen one. And would not be comfy with tarting one up either. The proportions will never be the same. Actually I don't like the looks of the Mk1 either but the handling is fab. Being Lotus developed it has to be eh? In fact next week this fantasy will come to its fruition I will say no more for now
  15. Didn't we do this before? But still it's great to do again!!! My ten keeps changing so right now.... 1. Ferrari 288 GTO - RED - It is so damn gorgeous. Not as sort after or revered as the be-winged F40 but close and a lot more beautiful. 2. Alfa Romeo 8C Spider - Pearl white - my evening cruise 3. Mercedes 500SL R107 - Off White/black mohair top - Saw one recently in HK and it was stunning. I've always loved the "Dallas" SL. 4. Maserati Gran Tourismo - BLACK - It's fab to look at and can seat 4 adults. And it's got THAT V8. 5. Ferrari 250 GT SWB - Dark Red - My ultimate classic car. (right now) 6. Lancia Delta S4 - White with Martini stripes - My 600bhp track day and rally car. 7. Ferrari 430 Scuderia - BLACK - There's no such thing as too many Ferraris 8. Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA - RED - Can't do without one. A Ferrari in a smaller package. 9. Jaguar E-Type Ser 1 3.8 Roadster - Burgundy - It's 60's sexy. Purer than the later series. 10. Maserati Quattoporte - Light peal Blue - I need a "practical" four door. And there's no such thing as too many Italian cars And back in the real world. The slightly more achievable dream 10 for the real Sri Lanka. 1. Alfa Romeo Mito GTA - Black with red Leather - to replace my 156. 2. My Giulia GT Junior - REd - I love it. 3. My Alfetta GTV - GREY - Love it too. 4. My Sud Sprint Veloce - Love it to bits, best fwd car I've driven, Mini included. 5. Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint - Light Blue - In love with it for ages now, the design is so subtle and pure! Would have to smuggle one in... 6. Porsche Boxter - The one in the showroom will do. I need a convertible. And its the most accomplished car I've ver driven. 7. Mazda RX7 FD - Silver - Great shape and a hard core sports car. Plus Pradfred will allow me into the Mazda Club 8. Subaru Forester Turbo - Black - For the bad roads. 9. Mercedes R107 SL - I need a classic convertible as well 10. Toyota MR2 - To fulfill my Mid-engined fantasy, until I win the lottery and can afford the F355!!!
  16. A whole generation or two of us hard working Sri Lankans will never experience the joy of ordering and speccing a brand new car of our dreams. What a crime!!!! I kind of like the Mito now. It's grown on me. Have yet to see it in the metal. Hopefully I'll get an opp in early April The only thing I'm slightly worried about the Mito in any form is the rear torsion bar sus. After being pampered with multi-link for years......... But then again the Giulia has a a crud-ish rear end but it is so good in the handling department!
  17. Oh of course I am proud of owning the Giulia even if its not a GTA. It's my favourite car from everything I've ever owned. I was thinking that the Mito GTA would be a dream replacement for my 156.....someday.... in a non-Mahinda Chinthanaya world of course A dream....!!
  18. I phoned the seller of the white one. It did not have the original engine

Nice. Great progress. Looks like almost complete.......just in time for the engine!!!!
  21. Must be getting warmed up for the season I guess....?
  22. There were one or two advertised a couple of months back. Some were missing the original engine while some were in poor shape.... There maybe a very few good ones left.
  23. I'm not really a Euro car fan as such. There are lots of Euro cars that I would not touch - Opel Astra, Peugoet 307 for example. And there are quite a few Japanese cars I'd consider owning - 240Z, MR2, CRX1, MX5s WRXs etc. I'm more and "interesting" car fan. Looking at Supra's list, all the cars except the Presea has a at least a slight sporting bias. So you kind of gather which way the wind's blowing. The Nissan is the odd one out. One of my friends used a Presea for ages and I used to drive it occasionally. To be very honest I found it crap to drive and would go into deep depression if I had to use one everyday. Just my opinion. For a car crazy person like me, the thrill of driving is a lot more important than the majority's opinion or re-sale value and all those other boring stuff that are usually blown way out of proportion. So my priorities are different.
  24. Ha ha well spotted buddy!!!
  25. Not sure about the history of this V6 Super but make sure you buy some LIOC shares as well with the car 2.0TS 164 much more practical and a lot more reliable.
