    Pls read some of these old posts about Accent. They my help you. I personally disagree with rangerover regarding EK3 being a better option. Both models do have their own pluses and minuses so it's not a worthwhile discussion. At the end, you are the one who needs to make your decisions. However, I agree that 1.4 million for an Accent is too high. For a K-number Auto tranny car, 1.25 would be a fair price. Also go through the thread in AL on how to buy a used car. Don't rely too much on mechanics (unless he's a true friend). Get help from a friend who knows cars well.

    Machan just my two cents.... did u consider sourcing a used Volvo engine from the UK? It may not be the cheapest option but if you have some sentimental value for the vehicle, you may want to try that without creating a frankenstein out of your car. You might be able to get help from Harris of AL for that. You also mentioned that you plan to convert it to an Auto tranny... Any specific reason for that?

    For me, terms like "market price" and "resale value" are just terms created by car dealers. If the price is right, u can sell any car. If you must know, I didn't lose money when I sold my punto. But yeah, an average joe ought to stick to mainstream cars, so on second thoughts, I guess a mainstream jap is the choice for u.

    If the budget is in the 2.5 million range and the concern is fuel economy i would suggest a fiat punto. It will run circles around a passo and still give u far better fuel figures.

    Great work dude... wish there were more threads like this. I'm contemplating on starting a project on a battered old E30 which I found in a semi-running state... but a bit reluctant to touch it because of the time commitment. I see that u have spent a significant amount of time on this project. Care to mention how much was the time commitment? If I were you, I would have lost the WRC decal. Also fixed fender mirrors instead, to keep the originality. Any reason for wing mirrors? Just to make life a bit easier?

    Its got the same three wheeler engine (200CC). WIth the added weight of the vehicle, will it ever reach 70km/h? And I wonder if its got the starting lever too

    Punto doesn't come with a dual clutch box. What they call duologic box has a single electronically controlled clutch. I believe it's the efficiency of the engine that makes the difference. Incidentally, Tata has licensed the engine used in the Punto to be installed in Tata Manza (what they call Safire Engine) and Tata claims fuel efficiency levels of 25+km to the litre. Now who needs hybrids with these fuel figures? News to me. Focus I own (2011 model) has a boring ol' semi-auto tranny. So does the 2012 Focus that comes to Sri Lanka. Is this in Sri Lanka or elsewhere? AFAIK, Sri Lanka gets the export versions of Foci made in Europe.

    U don't need to go to Unimo anymore to get spares for Perodua vehicles. There are couple of places in Panchi where u can get many spares for cheap ( I mean really really cheap... after all, they are made in Malaysia). Just to give an indication, a few days back I went spares shopping for a pal and got hold of a gearbox mount for 2000 bucks. Unimo price for the same item was 27000.

    Correct me if I'm wrong here... isn't there a override mechanism in newer cars that prevent the accelerator and brakes operating at the same time, so if the driver presses the accelerator and brakes, only the brakes would work?

Not that it matters for me but whenever u plan to sell it, it might matter).
