  1. Tsk Tsk @Kavvz are we encouraging people to eat inside their cars now??
  2. Fairly mediocre as far as reliability goes. A friend owned one brand new and it was an endless slew of repairs, some under warranty
  3. Nicely done @Gummybr - do we have one here?? Good one @matroska
  4. It'll take me a while to drive from Mt to Kelaniya @Kavvz?
  5. @matroska i want to say MG B or Triumph Spitfire but that small indicator/parking light doesn't seem to match
  6. @Amila_Silva are you trying to exact revenge on @Thushara 90 for sins from a past life or something suggesting a Pug 206?! ? The March K11 is a decent car ?
  7. KYB is fine - get them directly from TAAS Agencies at Hyde Park Corner / Ibbangwala Junction Check the Unit#d Mot#rs genuine part prices as well - sometimes they end up being better value for money than unknown aftermarket parts that aren't exactly durable 555 is reputed locally but I can't speak for the longevity Keep in mind there are additional costs to factor - if you repair your steering rack, or do any changes to the front suspension your suspension geometry may change which means ideally you should be planning to carry out wheel alignment post repair as well. There is obviously a cost associated with this. If you use substandard parts and then end up having to repeat the repair the additional cost of the labour +parts+ alignment should not be forgotten 145 Majeed Place, Orugodawatte. 8. If anyone drives by Duplication Road i'm sure you would have noticed the Bordgward showroom where the old Audi one was with Senok Trade Combine representing the German/Chinese JV here locally I can't believe i'm going to say this but the offering is pretty impressive for what it is and impresses in the flesh ?
  9. @Crosswind super insights ? The Chinese (Foton / BAIC) have also resurrected the old German brand Borgward as well, complete with the grandson of the German founder at the helm & it's offices based in Stuttgart
  10. @HaeylM the "beetle" Swift was a nice car but the "jeep" model was like bouncy castle ? Doesn't make it a bad car as all, be it an uncomfortable one but hey we can't have it all right
  11. @tbird doesn't Stafford now have the MOTUL agency? Haven't they got a suitable option from MOTUL for this kind of application or are they still limited to Motorcycle oil?
  12. @thusharak340I won't weigh in on the oil since @gayanath has already suggested a course of action by which your first point will be addressed? Regarding point 2, i don't think your technician is entirely right. Fuel saving can be a potential benefit of a lower viscosity oil (be it mineral or synthetic) in terms of how it manages friction but there are other benefits to synthetic oil in terms of the protection offered & the cleaning properties specially formulated synthetic oils offer. Then there is also the matter of how mineral oils breakdown or shear in comparison to the long term stability of synthetic oil As for point 3, the most amount of wear is during start up so frequent short journeys or stop start movement causes more wear than low RPM cruising so your take away that synthetic is only for "harsh" conditions is invalid in that the definition of harsh may be skewed as well as the fitness for purpose of synthetic oils themselves in your view
  13. @kmeeg Toyota has a minority stake in Subaru if i'm not mistaken
  14. They're all in trouble with lagging Mitsubishi sales in the states and the Renault Nissan alliance in complete disarray following the Carlos Ghosn debacle!
  15. I used to buy parts from the small UniMo shop opposite AC Paul in Panchikawatte towards Armour Street @Vikum Samarasinghe between 2005-2014 so I don't know of any other places personally
  16. @matroska his whole other thread!?
  17. @Thushara 90 Safety is a concern but a Maruti 800 or an Alto will be cheap to buy & run These will be newer than the options suggested above, which are also good but in some cases finding parts for older cars will be a nuisance especially since this is your first car
  18. @Amila_Silva your point about idling has legs however to be able to gain a more scientific view of how the oil has fared (& protected the engine itself beyond visual inspection) what we ideally need to do is carry out used oil analysis https://www.blackstone-labs.com/tests/standard-analysis/?session-id=snfax42tr1q2vlz15xhbxx45&timeout=20&bslauth=&urlbase=https%3a%2f%2fwww.blackstone-labs.net%2fBstone%2f(S(snfax42tr1q2vlz15xhbxx45))%2f @gayanath i think we discussed this on some other thread
  19. Depends on the car @matroska & how long you want to hold it like @john cooper
  20. @kmeeg where is Subaru??
  21. This one @Kavvz? Photo credit to @Octanehead
  22. Wonder if the car still survives?
  23. @Kavvz ditto that - It was the lack of a second light (parking & turn indicator) that stopped me from going with the Dauphine Then there was the matter of the light itself - looked like something from a British Leyland parts bin but I didn't even consider Standard - good job @matroska
  24. Hmmm depends on your requirements and the priority you place on whatever those requirement are @Husny Older cars will have all the same costs (be it a little less purely because the vehicle value will be lower) & additional costs like maintenance - wear & tear items You need to budget for consumables and general wear items like tires, batteries, rubber bushes, shock absorbers, timing belt, spark plugs, filters, etc etc The list is long so it depends on what exactly you are hoping to achieve
