    Tire Brands

Which Goodyear tyre? There are so many... Anyway, I would be skeptical of any tire that claims 130000 km in that price range, especially in Sri Lanka, given our road conditions. IMHO this is a very poor and dangerous way to market this stuff in the local conditions.
  2. I know the structure of the Nugegoda flyover was not approved by the local engineering teams from the Moratuwa campus. No idea about Dehiwala but I'm assuming it is not of hte highest standards. There is a difference between vibration of poor quality bridges in other parts of the country and a flyover where the top is over 50 feet up in the air. I'm sure they don't allow heavy vehicles on it for more than just blocking traffic. As with many other farcial "time savers" it could just be a matter of time before it all comes crashing down. Wouldn't want to be up there when it does.

    Express-Way Updates

All this has already discussed on this thread, without any positive answers. As the videos above show, the road is as narrow as we feared.

Any reviews on Ceat tires? The streets are filled with idiots...
  5. I don't think all Prius drivers in SL drive at 30 kmph. Today I was stuck behind one at Dankotuwa, and it was doing almost 40!
  6. You mean they're not as good as they look?
  7. I've seen some recent press on radio controlled planes, even competitions for civilians being held at air force bases. I believe there is not much restriction on this anymore, or how would they expect people to participate in this? In any case, there was a perfectly valid reason for not allowing radio controlled planes. You can't really compare USA (where there was no guerilla war) to here. Paypal wasn't banned was it? I thought it just wasn't supported, which is more Paypal's fault than ours...
  8. People running around on those plates for no good reason deserve to have the crap beaten out of them.
  9. Guess anybody can put them on as they don't seem that hard to make
  10. Maybe he wants to tint it fully, attach red plates, and then barrel over everyone in Colombo. I recommend the diga model Prado
  11. Cool, I think the latter option would be fine. Will look in to it, many thanks
  12. Does anyone know if we can buy some type of pump to put air at home ourselves? And how much would such a device cost? (I wouldn't mind doing this as I have a pressure gauge already, and would much rather inflate cold tires anyway).
  13. Looks like you have taken the Kalupahana route via Devil's staircase past Bambarakanda? In fairness to the hotel, you definitely need an SUV to do that track, but that is one of the longest and hardest approaches. In fact it is downright dangerous if you don't get your timing right and get caught to the mist/rain. They probably wanted to give you the adventure route Certainly scenic but no more or less than the other approaches imo. According to the old timers, this road was in much better condition in late 60/early 70s and there actually used to be an annual motorbike 'hill climb' held there each year. Maybe someone here has more info on that. I haven't been on that route in several years but it was in pretty poor shape the last time I went, and the tar was all but destroyed. The approach via ambewala/pattipola is the one I was referring to earlier which is probably the easiest and busses and threewheelers go up that way all the time.
  14. What happens when you get a flat tire and there isn't a nitro station in sight? Is it OK to run 3 with nitrogen and one with normal air? Or do you need to deflate all four and refil with normal air I've seen some new E-classes with all their tires deflated at the Horton Place shed awaiting a nitrogen fill. They're probably doing more damage to their tires by deflating them fully while on the car than by running on normal air.
  15. I did take a similar crew up there 3 years back and the bus made it through pattipola side...that was a bus hired out of the CTB depot there but I seem to have lost their contact details. at the time there were lots of hired busses going up there, but of course it is quite difficult. Thanks, I was checking out the lakdasun forum but didn't see anything particularly about this, will post and see if I can get something. Thanks a lot
  16. This might sound a little odd, but does anyone know where I could rent a 40-50 seater bus for a day in Nuwara Eliya area? This would be to get from Nuwara Eliya town to Horton Plains area and back...office trip. As the party will already be in Nuwara Eliya at the time, the starting destination would be from there. The big tour operators are asking for astronomical rates due to not having any dispatch from anywhere outside of Colombo. Someone told me the CTB also has a depot that you can hire busses from, but I can't seem to locate their number. If anyone can point me in the right direction on this, would very much appreciate a reply or a PM. Thanks in advance

    A Papare Band For Hire

  18. Stop fooling around for a solution nobody has, call up the agent next week and go check it out.
  19. You could've phrased it a little clearer earlier - I think we all thought that this P61Y whatever was the model of your car, not the name of your warning light. Anyway, never seen anything like that. Perhaps it's your engine model, and it shows up when someone has swapped your engine for a different model that day?
  20. Why don't you just take it to a garage? There's also a thing called a car instruction manual...
  21. Definitely didn't sound like Sajant mahatthaya, must be a shorten form for that then. Here's a visual ID of the police ranks: http://www.police.lk/divisions/rank.asp
  22. How about "Saam Mahattaya" (or something that sounds like that...not sure the exact word - is that "Peace officer"?). I have heard cops refer to each other using that name, as well as three wheel guys call them that to the face.
  23. Blue shirts? Aren't those the guys from the NTC? Don't think they stop anything other than busses...and I've only ever seen them on green path or near the museum...
  24. Good work, I hope it achieves the cause it was shot for, and also hope it reaches Cannes Gold
  25. That is stupid, as in other countries most cars have their lights come on automatically if the car senses the lighting is not "upto standard" (and by this I mean what would be considered pretty bright in SL). You could just say your car was one of those. Or one of those moron Prados who run around with their lights on as well. Did you ask "what about them?"
