    Tyre Downsizing

Well with the 225/45 you side wall height is about 101mm whereas the 215/55 will give you 118mm so thats 17mm extra height on the side wall. That might have impact on the comfort. Cant say for sure how big it might be.

    Tyre Downsizing

17 down to 16 you will notice only a small difference I think but this will also depend on what profile the tyre is (side wall height). A bigger profile will give you a bit more comfort.
  4. Isnt this the same thing as google maps. Cos you can get directions from google maps as well since they have very detailed maps now.
  5. Can you give a bit more info? what sort of vehicle is it car/van/jeep?? Have you had the alignment checked? It can be improper alignment casued by a range of faults on the suspension. get your suspension checked by a good garage most probably your suspension arm bushes/ball joints need replacement.
  6. You can try places along Darley Road. If I remember right LP Gunarathne used to be quite good. LP Gunaratne 2685848/2682251 www.lpgrubber.com
  7. Have you had a close look at the rubber seal? is it crushed or out of shape in the area where it leaks? if so might be worth replacing it. If the rubber looks a bit dry try lubricating it with something like silicone grease do not use any petroleum products. Is there any adjustment on the boot lid that can be done if the above fails?
  8. The cleaning helps the engine to get the correct amount of air/fuel in. Less fuel going in doesnt mean lower fuel consumption because for the fuel to burn there is a specific air/fuel ratio at which the fuel will burn efficiently and release its energy. If you put less fuel in there will be more air and the combustion will not happen very efficiently so this will not release the energy in the fuel properly and this will also create more harmful exhaust gases as well. Just imagine when you push the accelerator a certain amount to get upto a certain speed with less fuel going in, the engine will not produce the same power so you will have to push the accelerator more to get upto the same speed putting even more fuel which will burn even more inefficiently increasing your fuel consumtion. An engine always need the correct amount of fuel and air to run efficiently and increasing or decreasing this will only mean higher fuel consumption. MalithS
  9. As far as I know there is no 'Duty Free' even if you work abroad and send money to SL. The only concession you get it that you can import an older vehicle upto 5 or 10 years old so the depreciation will be more and you will pay less tax. You can import a vehicle you have owned for atleast 1 year aborad that can be upto 5 years old or You can import a vehicle you have owned for a minimum of 3 years aborad that can be upto 10 years old The only difference is that these vehicles will attract less duty due to higher depreciation but you still pay the normal taxes on these. All of the above was the way it used to be I am not sure if these regulations have changed recently. MalithS
  10. I seem to remember once someone telling me that D*MO did a software upgrade on some Merc E class cars where they actually went around to the owners to do the upgrade. I dont know if anyone here can verify this.
  11. I think this should be ok since the first reg is 2009 you should be able to import this to SL. The depreciation will not be much as it will start counting from 2009 and not 2000.
  12. Many happy returns of the day Prad

  15. Sumith, The stuff from AC Pauls will be good quality and will probably last a lifetime. But if you want a cheaper alternative you might be able to find a cheaper one if you look around but quality and accuracy probably will be less as well. Regards, Malith

  20. I think in the past(30 odd years ago) cars were actually reconditioned to an extent. I am not sure about this its just something I have heard. These days you cant call imported cars reconditioned they are just used imports.
  21. Check out this site. They have some very good advice. http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/acatalog/seek-advice.html
  22. The term Sound Transmission Control (STC) is not exatcly correct. STC usually refers to Sound Transmission Class and this is a rating of how well a meterial attenuates sound (mainly used in the building industry).
  23. There are two main methods to control noise here: 1. Sound Insulation - High density material is used to insulate (stop the noise from entering). Hard board, metal etc. Bitumen like sheets pasted to the inside of the panels help insulate noise. Most cars have this type of material pasted at specific locations on the inside under the carpets. 2. Sound Absorption - Typically open cell low density material is used to absorb and dissipate the sound energy (glass wool, open cell foam etc). When the sound waved enter the material the porous nature of the structure helps dissipate the energy (sound waves bounce around the inside of the material) in the sound waves and this is converted to heat energy.
  24. Im sure a minor engine would be able to get to 80km/h given enough time that is . My personal view is that putting in a jap engine would ruin the classic feel of the car. Im quite against modifications like that but thats just my personal opinion. Im sure if you put new engine and modify the suspension and brakes it will go like stink!!
  25. All you need is a angle grinder with the proper attachment. You can get an angle grinder at almost any hardware shop. The head attachements Im not sure how easily available they are in SL. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/3-PACK-CAR-POLISHING...=item2c4ce5585f http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW180mm-Lambs-Wool-...=item35a073e882 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/RUBBER-BACKING-PAD-1...=item5ad39eef82 See picture here: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/AUTOGLYM-ULTIMATE-CA...=item2a04d8c9d7
