yup.... hoping that someone following the discussions on autolanka has got it

Hi,

as I understood you are requesting sound absorbing material. Glass wool is a good sound absorber the cost will be less than Rs 100/= per square meter for 25mm thick material they are availble at hardware item sellers in Old Moor street (off Armour street).

don't think glass wool is safe to be used inside a car mate. if those tiny fibres gets loose they get airborne and you'd be breathing it in...

best to use proper sound deadening sheets that were meant for automotive use...

No idea about what sun lanka sells but sound deadening sheets truly works. but for best effect, you gotta put it on all body panels...

the doors, firewall, floor, trunk...

O.K If you are so worried about glass wool use Poly ehyline insulation(PE) they are mfg by Mc Foam. But sound absorbing properties are a bit lower than glass wool. But, If we consider under the bonnet lining its glass wool, insulation partning engine to cabin room from inside the cabin is also glass wool, central airconditioning systems (in large buildings) ducts are insulated by glass wool and return air path is in constant touch with glass wool.

oh well.. in that case...glass wool should be a lot cheaper alternative...

sound recording studios too use glass wool as a cheaper insulator so its gotta be having pretty good sound deadening qualities

They told that they dont have such a product

Hmm, Chris0628 mentioned that each sheet costs Rs. 1000 at Sun Lanka but Sun Lanka says they never sold such a product. A similar incident happened to me a few months ago; somebody mentioned that he bought a double balded wipers from Sun Lanka, and when I went there an inquired they said that they never had such a product! May be people are confusing Sun Lanka with some other company?

I went to the Sun Lanka Darley rd & Narahenpita branches. They said they never had it, nor got it down. They also said that they never had it at the other branches! I am yet to find those double bladed wipers :( My Wurth wipers are holding out pretty well. I've been using it for 1 year & 9 months and it is still wiping like new. I'm using a pair of those Wiper-up gadgets though.

No. Not wiper spoiler. Wiper-up. A springy gadget that can be used to lift the wipers off the glass so that the rubber does not get over-heated, when parked under the hot sun.

I was interested in this topic since I used to hear small rattling noises from some of my door panels. Today I purchased a paste called M-Seal from a hardware shop, which can be used for sealing gaps, cracks etc. I used that to fill up some of the gaps in the areas that were rattling. Now my rattling problems have been solved. Sharing my experience since somebody might find it helpful.

For road noise reduction, there are several options that we use depending on the type of car.

Under Coat Spray (Available with paint shops and with garages that do painting. CIC and Wurth have their brands as well). You can determine the tickness on application. A similar subtance is used on the lining of the bin on double cabs. Most ppl apply this as a thin layer to prevent corrosion.

Wurth Sound Deadening panels - These are quite effective but wasn't viable for fleet use due to the cost. You can almost get euro car levels of insulation if you use enough of this stuff. I last got a quote about a year back but can't remember the prices.

McFoil - We use this mostly in vans mainly as a heat reflector against engine heat but there is a certain degree of noise reduction. Its a fairly cheap option.

There is a lot of information online about noise reduction but never had the time to implement
