  1. Well DD has been at it for 17 years now if I'm not mistaken. Would be great if he could comment on this, he's on the forum himself :-) As for that incident, i didn't see the move as I was on the other side of the track, and yes, imo they're both brilliant drivers and friendly guys. I'm no steward to give an opinion, just a photographer :-P
  2. Was a very entertaining race. I felt it was a good show by the new organisers, although dust control was supposedly not as good as previous years.... I wonder what SL-GT would've been like had all the top runners been in the mix though. Sadly i doubt Dilans car will ever run competitively again, but atleast he's ok. Shafraz was rushed to hospital, but after some xrays he's been given the ok too. Was talking to DD, and sadly, this may be the last time he races... Here at least. Well, we'll definitely be seeing a new champion soon.... Who it is, is anyones guess right now....
  3. Yeah, we need to protect our babies!
  4. Ok guys, so whats the best way there in your opinion? Via NE of Via Ratnapura?
  5. Lol, who am I to talk? I'd probably do the same A refreshing change to those ill fitting "shift light" items...

Yup, the problem with the UK, well, actually most countries now, will be the labour rates for dismantling. Best thing may be if you have a friend who's handy with a spanner and hammer based in UK to help, but its still a messy job. I remember hearing how Milroy bought and then drove I think 5 complete cars from UK to Germany in about a week or so, just so they could be dismantled and shipped here at a cheaper rate.

I forget to mention that theres an M20B25 for sale... Well it was, dunno if its still around.... But thats quite a good starting point if someone wanted to bring it back... Honestly, interior wise I've seen a lot worse. But from what I can see, its a project I would love to take on if A) I had more disposable income and The asking price was realistic of what the car is...

Crying tears of Bavarian blood But seriously, if we could save her, it'd be an awesome dericing/deidiotization project. I'd pitch in whatever help I could, just hope its financially feasible...
  13. Nice one Supra! Things are definitely looking up Liking the little fun montage addition at the end too. Just a point if I may suggest, a clip on mic would make a world of difference, plus maybe not using the windows sample Ninja Tuna music Looking forward to what the future may have in store...

    Project E34

Ok, I know I've been long overdue for an update on this, so here goes. First the small stuff. Replaced this boring interior panel in the rear.... With this rear cigar lighter. As I don't smoke, or encourage it in the car will probably swap out the lighter element for a dummy peice, but its always nice to have an extra electrical outlet Did some boring weather strip replacements too, as well as adding a rear triangle to the boot toolkit. Oh, and we had to replace the front shocks and top mounts! And here's a simple cosmetic mod that may divide opinions... Since I fitted the Halo lights, Its been pointed out to me that the car looked sort of startled, or staring with the Halo's on. So the idea was to fit eyebrows to eliminate that look.... So here they are.... A reminder of what the car looked without them... And what she looks like now.... (Varied cameras I know... But you get the idea) I choose to keep them black so it sort of blends in with the surrounding trim, although some prefer them to be body colour. Others believe they shouldn't be there in the first place And finally, after much debate, I'm pleased to announce I have changed the wheels.... You may recognize them off a very popular black 525i.... They're what Jadey originally suggest, original 17" M System II throwing stars. Whats great about these is not only are they the forged edition (rare), this set is also staggered 8x17 front and 9x17 rear. Not to mention that the lips have been polished by the previous owner. They are without a doubt one of the strongest wheels that BMW has ever made, and therefore perfect for our road conditions. And of course, the design is functional too, acting as a turbine to funnel air into the brakes. I didn't realise how much of a difference the staggered set up would make, until two consecutive trips down south. Needless to say, handling has improved tremendously! Dunno whether to keep the center covers black, or repaint them silver, or a more gunmetal grey... So we've gone from this: To this: In the coming months its time she gets her mechanicals focused on.... Here's a peak of whats in store first....
  15. Hey guys, AutoLanka will be partnering with the Nissan Patrol Club of Sri Lanka, who will be conducting the Carlton 4x4 Challenge 2013! We'll be bringing you Photo's, videos and updates via our Facebook page, and will upload some of the best photo's to this thread too. The event starts on Friday the 1st of March, with a convoy of around 50 4x4s making their way down to Tissamaharama. On the Saturday the challenges will begin, with three classes: Extreme, Safari and Standard. We'll keep you updated as the event goes on!
  16. Its great to see the car in such good hands. For a moment I was honestly worried that it would get bought by someone who didn't have a clue about it's value, but I think it's safe to say this little datto's future is now safely secured But, having said that, I'm incredibly jealous
  17. Interesting explanation here: http://badgergp.com/2013/02/williams-and-caterham-exhaust-design-explained-legal-illegal/
  18. Haha, no problem. Hope to see you in our club soon
  19. The E36 is a great little car, not quite as connected to the road as the E30, but definitely not too far off. Unfortunately I see quite a few abused E36's on our roads, come to think of it, actually it seems to be a global trend, as they are prime targets for youngsters who just wanna look cool, but ultimately mess the car up. I'd suggest you think long and hard about the purchase, especially as you're coming from a jap, there is a great chance you'll be cursing the marque for life. That said, compared with newer BMW's, I personally feel the quality and reliability of the older ones far surpasses that of the new breed. Be prepared to pay a premium for parts etc, but not as much as people would have you believe, especially if you can use your own methods of getting parts down. Off the top of my head I'd suggest you check things like service history, whether it was performed at the correct intervals, and the suspension (if you can, take it up to 80-100 check that there's no steering wobble) in addition to the obvious things you check prior to buying. I do personally recommend you look for a 318 too. The difference in all areas is not gonna be great (initial purchase price, maintenance, economy, performance), but at the end of the day the 1.8 will feel less underpowered. I don't think it should be deal breaker though, especially if you find a 316 in very good condition. If you're really looking for silky smooth performance then go for a 6 pot. But again, economy will suffer if its your daily commuter. The E36 also came with two variations of engine in the 1.6 lines: the M40 (1991-93?) and M43 (93 onwards?). Long story short, the M40 uses a timing belt as opposed to the timing chain of the M43. The latter is more reliable due to the chain, and again has a slight performance increase. Hope I haven't scared you away, but I can guarantee the driving pleasure you'll get once everything is working perfectly, will far surpass most Japanese cars. The 36 is a GREAT car, and you'd be joining quite a few people who've been bitten by the 36 bug. Add Rukster to the list of 36 owners too
  20. I concur
  21. I'm loving this new livery. Much nicer that the conservative Whitewash they had before. I do hope we don't mistake this for a McLaren in the distance though.
  22. All the best Davy
  23. I wonder if the BMW specialist will end up having to learn how to work on RRs once the warranty runs out... Might make my trips there (slightly) more enjoyable...

I take my cars to milroy, but specifically get advice from the chief mechanic there. Yup, a good cut and polish is definitely in order! Decided I wanted to change the fog light switch yesterday, This is the one that came with the car. As it didn't leave the factory with front fog lamps there was only one switch for both front and rears. Unfortunately, the front fogs that were fitted were locally wired, and therefore bypassed the normal circuitry. We had to pull the lower dash out, and wanted to make sure the indicator lamp on the dash worked for the front fogs too, so the result was this: In retrospect, it was a lot of effort for a little button, but what the hell. Also replaced the head light knob as the dashboard dimmer was on its way out. And whilst the wheel was off, we replaced the very flexible "bus" steering wheel, with this lovely M tech 1 unit I pinched off a friend. Needs a re-leather, but it still feels much better! Will be on the look out for some OEM front fogs now...
