    E30

I had 16-8484 years back... Sold it around 2008-2009... It was a good car and never let me down.. a friend of mine had it after and he also maintained it well until he went overseas for work... car was sitting around for sometime. Once he got back, he decided to sell it a few months ago, since he didn't want it to get neglected. Not sure what happened after... Heard that it was located in Matale now... Spec wise it was loaded. Had no sun roof, but all in all a wonderful car... Been all over the country in it except the North...

    Bmw 116I Problem

Hey MadMMX, Mil has tried everything in their control to diagnose the problem... but haven't been successful. Spoke to a few contacts at Prestige and according to them it’s a dynamic traction control issue, tyre pressure monitoring issue, SRS (Air bag) issue and it would even need a software upgrade. Still waiting on them for further info.

    Bmw 116I Problem

Thanks for the comments. I couldn't attach the original file so had to compress, hence the quality of the pic. Prestige is asking 100k just to have a look at the problem...

    Bmw 116I Problem

A friend of mine has a problem with his car, a 116i. Please see attached photo. This happens when the ambient temp. rises over 30+ C. each day and as in the pic an alarm buzzer also sounds. Other than that the car runs fine. The car has been manufactured in Feb, 2011. Prestige wants the car to be registered under them before having a look. Taken it to the experts and even they couldn't diagnose the problem. Any advice / suggestions? Thanks in advance!
  8. Had a E30 a few years back for 10 years and enjoyed every moment in it ! (16 - 8484) Fully restored it (sold it in 2009) and now its in good hands. Through experience these cars have a high chance of rust specially in the fire wall area. Have seen many go through the same and even more surgery if neglected and not addressed immediately. Solidly built and may have initial costs as soon as you take ownership, just to ensure that everything has been attended according to taste and preference. Things you might want to look out for : 1. Radiator leaks and everything relating to the the engine cooling system 2. AC related issues (switches, compressor, leaks, etc.) 3. Window regulators and the power window switches 4. Some had a big analog clock instead of the RPM meter in the dash 5. Wiper motors 6. Suspension bushes, arms, etc. 7. Alternator as the bearings if not replaced would have worn out due to age.... All in all good ride and much easier to maintain and run than new ones! Good luck with your search !

  12. HI K9M Thats the spirit! If you are interested there is a 318is at Milroys for sale. Its a fully spec car that needs some TLC. If you are looking to convert an E36 to an M3 and considering the cost, this would be an ideal project for you. Once its done and ready to roll, it will sure stand out from the rest. It mostly needs cosmetic attention, mechanically I think its 90% sound. Worth a check. Cheers R
  13. If you are trying to go by the number plate and not consider the condition, not the records and history of the vehicle you are better off looking elsewhere. As long as the car has been maintained properly and given all the TLC you should just go for it. Always get an opinion, but other than that don't think twice. I sold my 325i in February this year, had only a few coming to take a look but the car was sold within two weeks. The people who came were never bothered of the number (18-xxxx)and it was 1992, fully loaded and everything was working and I had a good record of the history and maintenance. Thats all you should be worried about. I know the previous owner of the E36 and he maintained it well. I don't know the current owner but the car (19-xxxx) is worth a look and due to its rarity it will command a higher price regardless of the year of manufacture and plate.
  14. I second that !
  15. Another meeting to take place on the 9th of October at the parliament car park at 11.00 am.
  16. As of 12/09/2011 6pm — BMW:51 vs. Merc:25
  17. Guys again, M**roy's service has been topnotch over the years (1999 - to-date)and I have no complains whatsoever. He will always advice on a car's diagnosis and issues and will be frank in telling you what can be done, needs to be done and needs priority/immediate attention. The agents are good as well, but you need to do your homework carefully and know about the car and functionality. There is plenty online and reading about them help alot regardless of taking the vehicle to M**roys or the agents. All in all his work is excellent and will not cost an arm and leg on most occasions.
  18. Ok. What is your car btw? Is it a E39 ? Do you use your car as a daily driver? If so you can change the oil and oil filter, but its not necessary to change the air filter. You should be able to use the air filter for around a year without replacing. Yes I do change the fuel filter every year when my service is due. What's the oil you use? Castrol or Mobil? All depends on your need and the condition of the filters+plus oil when you take it for a routine check/service and the recommendation by the agents. Anyone else, please share your thoughts and expertise, please. Cheers
  19. Yes. Thats me.
  20. Generally after a service and change of oil your indicator should show just over 15,500 miles for the next service. I generally service mine when it hits ~10,000 miles. It depends though, I know a few who keep changing oil every 5,000 miles(8,000 kms)and some who even do it once its hits close to the 15k miles. Any reason why you were asked to bring the vehicle in after 7,000 kms?
  21. Honestly its a nice car to own and drive. Quite minimal on the electronics and easier to maintain than the later siblings. Its difficult to say what the real problem(s) is but its best that you take the car for a full inspection to the Specialist in Kelaniya or Prestige. One thing you should note is, the first year of running may be a bit expensive in case you wish to iron out the niggles, but thereafter it should be a good car. Check for signs of corrosion on the body work as they are quite expensive to repair if you are to do it at the expert or Prestige. My general gut feeling is that 1MN is a bit too much, but again it depends on the condition of the car and the TLC it has received over the years. Good luck with your search !
  22. Thanks for posting the pics rangerover! It surely was a good meeting!
  23. If you are looking for performance and driving pleasure, go for it! If you are thinking of fuel figures and maintenance costs, you might as well look for a petrol car! A bit higher on fuel, much better on maintenance in comparison to a 320d.
  24. Hi Folks, How about another meeting at parliament grounds, our usual place and time sometimes soon? Takers? Cheers Rukshan
  25. Did a paint job on my 325 bonnet last year. Cost me the approximately the same cost at Milroys.
