Bmw E30 Owners Need Help In Buying

Hi guys,

I Am Planning to Buy an E30 316i very soon. I have come across two cars so far. But one bottle green BMW is up for sale in Kelaniya. This particular car has headlight wipers as well but do not work. The owner told me that he has done a lot of repairs on the car such as suspension and exhaust. The exhaust has been replaced from the manifold to the tip. The exterior is in superior condition. However the interior is not the best around. The door lock is giving problems and have to be repaired or replaced. The owner said there is a vibration on the steering at high speed and on long distance travel. However he said the tie rods, and all bushings have been replaced so I don't know what the problem would cost me or how to diagnose the problem. Do you think this model can be STOMP TESTED? Please if you guys can just look at the engine bay and the exterior of this vehicle and let me know whether it is a good vehicle to purchase. I know it is hard to tell without actually looking at the car. However value your opinion. Furthermore the price is steep and the owners asking price is 1 million. Just let me know what you guys think. Thanks a lot. Sorry guys could only upload the engine bay!

Honestly its a nice car to own and drive. Quite minimal on the electronics and easier to maintain than the later siblings. Its difficult to say what the real problem(s) is but its best that you take the car for a full inspection to the Specialist in Kelaniya or Prestige. One thing you should note is, the first year of running may be a bit expensive in case you wish to iron out the niggles, but thereafter it should be a good car. Check for signs of corrosion on the body work as they are quite expensive to repair if you are to do it at the expert or Prestige. My general gut feeling is that 1MN is a bit too much, but again it depends on the condition of the car and the TLC it has received over the years.

Good luck with your search !

hahah what a coincidence, i went and checked out this very E30 last year when it was first up for sale......I offered him 950,000 and left, when i got back to him the next day he said he had sold it off for 975,000. So its still up for sale. At that moment I was cursing for missing out, because from all the E30's I've come across this one is in great condition, particularly the body. one mill is indeed a bit steep, but I think this particular car is worth it, and to be on the safe side as Rukster said better check it out with the specialist at Kelaniya, the car has been serviced there as well.

If I remember correctly, the replacement exhaust looked like a non-original item, and the vibration is probably due to a missing wheel weight or a worn steering joint. When I drove it everything else seemed ok.

Stuff like the door locks problems are expected, particularly with SL conditions and a car of that age. My E30's central locking has also gone haywire at the moment, and my headlight wipers don't work either :D

Hi Tharindra and Rukshan

Yes went for a test drive today. The car was horribly underpowered. The car didn't even accelerate on the 2nd despite flooring the pedal. Don't know whether the engine is under compression. The car has been painted though and verified correctly so by rukshan as well. Just researched about it been so underpowered, and lot of forums mention the MAF, plugs, O2 sensor and fuel filter. Should I buy this car honestly? Is there anything better around? The owner is adamant the car is the best E30 around. Is it true? Anyways I was also considering offering him 950 k And also when I checked this particular green and another black one, both of them were missing the check light! value your comments thanks!

Hi,

do not touch that that car cause you will be looking at a lot of time and money with the agents or at kelaniya, he always say that it is the best around but it is all rubbish, tell him to provide you with a compression report,he will come up with an excuse, letting you know i had the same BS offered to me but i did not go for it.your best bet is to keep your options open.

hope this clarifies abit,cheers man
