  1. Looks like CNX.. I found complains on Jag forums by the owners. Hope they will improve the quality. Also i'm not sure why major sites doesn't expose or clearly show the stats of these issues. KMeeg.
  2. Really?? Understood your capability of understanding the relevance or would assume you haven't read old replies to this topic.. Anyways atleast try to read the Vehicle dependability study link.. See if you can get something out of it to fill your 'Malla' other than 'Pol'.. If you still don't understand what i'm talking about. Forget it.. There was no a Jag reliability thread.. KMeeg.
  3. So after getting beaten by many of the members just thought of putting one more small note.. Also keep in mind this is from someone who don’t know a jackshit about technical things about cars. Just a regular user.. 1. I’ve seen similar kind of story for BMW. Which we should not judge based on that. 2. Everything coming from India is not bad quality. I’ve driven Indian cars of my friends like Maruti 800 AC, Alto, Swift, etc and they are decent cars. In fact I like Maruti 800 ac for daily office traveling in traffic as it has decent fuel economy, decent A/C for the price paid, basic car with no power steering, no power shutters, no power mirrors, no brake boost.. Basically nothing to break kind of car or cheap to repair. (just to give and idea about indian cars which i like) 3. I think it would be fair to assume that a particular car is not a piece of junk if you see someone regularly using that car. No one would drive a car daily if the headlight stops working regularly or the bumper fall off regularly or any other major issues exists. 4. Could not find major reliability flaws with the ratings given by JD Power / KBB / Consumer reports / etc.. etc.. 5. It is not fair to complain SL roads and weather conditions saying that cars cannot survive there. There are many develop countries where you can find pot holes or bad roads and might be hard to avoid them with the speed that everyone travels. When it comes to weather throughout the year the temperature is moderate and humidity does not change drastically in SL right? But there are lot of places with in a 12 month period the temperature goes from freezing cold to way hotter than SL and same extremes when it comes to humidity. And same story about dust, salt, pollen, etc etc.. Also there are many places the roads are very rough and have small gaps across the road to help braking while it snows. Those produce lot of road noise and vibration while driving in summer. 6. It could be a time in future many cars from different brands will come from India. Eg in some countries German cars not made in Germany or Korean cars not made in Korea or Japanese cars not made in Japan, Many are assembled in the same country. Basically any car would go through a quality inspection to pass a basic test and most of the time the dealer is doing another inspection before they deliver the car to the client. And sometimes dealers also do some changes. For an example if you live in a high altitude place your car will have a record like “PRE-DELIVERY SERVICE FOR USA ALL ALTITUDES” which is done at dealer location. 7. Most importantly if there is any problem with any brand-new car just give it to the dealer and get it fixed. ITS UNDER THE DAMN WARANTY..!! In many countries you are getting a courtesy vehicle (a free vehicle for the time dealership is keeping your car for repair). Finally, below are some of the links that I searched about Jag.. Vehicle dependability study for 2014 (Where the Jag is given some average rating - http://autos.jdpower.com/ratings/2014-Vehicle-Dependability-Study-Press-Release.htm usnews.rankingsandreviews.com - http://usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/cars-trucks/Jaguar_XF/Reliability/ JDPower.com - http://autos.jdpower.com/research/Jaguar/XF/2014/Sedan/index.htm Video of the owner destroying his BMW - KMeeg.
  4. My mistake. I just assumed that they are good cars (At least not bad as what was mentioned in that news) because normally I see them in office parking.. Know that it has some issues but can't believe its that bad.. How could you believe issues like bumper falling off, headlight stop working?? But as I said, I don't know since I don't own them or talk to those owners. Will let you know if I had a chat with them.. Also 1 time I met one Jag X-type owner at cleen park but he was pretty happy with his car.. KMeeg..
  5. :-) :-)
  6. Thanks MV-5 for the proof. Pretty surprising to see those. I'm seeing 2 Jag XFs in my office garage since last year and seems they are in good shape. I don't know the owners actually to talk and ask about their comments about the car. KMeeg.
  7. Please don't believe these kind of news as it is. Talk to real new Jag owners or search on web.. In my opinion some news papers, TV News & news articles try the method called 'Gona ta andanawa'.. I feel sorry for the people who only rely on one source of news. This is just my opinion and i can be dead wrong.. KMeeg.
  8. 1. You might have to visit Colombo unless the customs have any issue with your item. But very unlikely to have them for a illuminated scuff plate. The reason i tell you this is onetime multiple items (Digital camera's) were ordered by my office colleagues and a letter was received from the customs. So my friend (shipping addressee) had to visit the customs. As i can remember he did not have much problem clearing them. But i don't think you will face this cause its just 1 item. 2. Couple if times my items (small items) were lost while shipment but when i contacted the seller they sent another shipment without any hassle. Basically i never lost my money. Eg - If the item should arrive in 1 month and if you don't get it by the last estimated date contact the seller. Ideally they will ask you to wait for 1 more week. After that contact them again they will do another shipment. Sometimes they send some free stuff on the second shipment to make the customer happy. One time i got free set of dustcaps and a key tag along with the second shipment. (Note that this is not only on ebay, i have same experience with amazon also. But i got the item end of the day) But keep in mind sometimes you will get duplicates. Eg - I got a set of duplicate headset. Make sure you check the reviews and some info about the seller. More details will be there in old ebay threads. KMeeg.
  9. Hi Bracket, Very cute little one.. Since in this thread we discuss about Digital photography i would suggest you could have pay a little more attention about your ISO level in your camera. Camera pro's please correct me if i'm wrong. I think the ISO level of the shot is pretty high and i see some noise in the shot.. In simple, have a look at this- Sorry if you already know about this, but hope this might help for every one who does not know. Photography pro's - please correct me if i have said anything wrong.. KMeeg.
  10. It is very hard to believe 10kmpl on a Viva 1000cc manual. Even the old 1.3L 4 speed KE72 gave around 9kmpl (that's 1987 technology, no EFI no VVT and its 4 cylinder)..!! I used to travel via Dematagoda to Fort and normally running to office at the last moment but could not achieve your numbers.. Seriously guys there is some disconnect. Really waiting to hear from other Viva owners..
  11. Hi, I never experienced 9Km/l on Viva. Did you calculate Full tank to Full tank method? Mostly i was traveling on baseline around 9am and 7pm were almost peak time. But the Viva Elite 1000cc Manual gave me around 14kmpl and the Viva 660cc manual gave me almost 18kmpl. I did not see much deference before and after service. Only difference was i was driving extra carefully on the first few days since they were new which gave unbelievable fuel economy and gradually went down to above mentioned numbers. Another thing was i usually pump 95oct for all and not sure whether it made any difference. BTW check old Viva thread where they discuss many things about Viva from Fuel consumption to technical things.. Bottom line i was very happy with both 1000cc and 660cc (even though 660cc one is under-powered) with regard to the price paid for a brand-new car and the fuel economy and comfort i got for the price paid (when the tax was low). KMeeg.
  12. Hope this article helps - http://prius.wikia.com/wiki/Operating_modes_(ECO,_Normal,_PWR_and_EV) Second option would be joining your car model owners site; Eg - Assuming you are a prius owner - Go to http://www.toyota.com/owners/web/pages/home Go to Resources -> Manuals & Warranty -> Select car model & year to access the manuals. In addition these sites will give you many other info like - Maintenance schedules The services & repairs done to your car Recall notifications, etc, etc.. But i'm not 100% sure whether these additional info is applicable when you buy from Toyota Lanka or Stafford Motors or any other other dealer. But better to check. And these owners sites are intended for these type of things. KMeeg.
  13. Thank you Jaliya.. Thanks alot Pericles.. Just the kind of comments needed to improve. Will make sure to keep saturation at average level. Please keep on giving these kind of comments so everyone will learn. Also about P&S; 1. I was never able to produce good pics out of P&S until i bought my first DSLR the D3200. That is the point i started to research / learn about the first 3 basics of ISO, Shutter speed, Aperture. 2. I did not have any idea about the lenses / image sensor size come with P&S. Eg 'Carl Zeiss' lenses coming with Sony P&S cameras or better image sensors coming with cameras like Sony RX 100ii (and many more awesome P&S cameras with other manufactures). I was just hunting for mega pixels and ended up with basic quality P&S with high mega pixels. 3. Until i get my first DSLR i could not do much post-production. Eg Nikon DSLR comes with Nikon ViewNX which gives plenty of options for post-production. When i had my P&S i was using Microsoft picture manager which comes with MS Office which has basic controls from cropping, brightness, contrast & adjusting mids. (may be few more which i did not use) 4. At the time of P&S i never read any articles or watch any training videos about photography. Now when ever i get some time i watch training videos on Youtube, read articles from http://www.slrlounge.com/, Buy mags like 'Popular Photography' (http://www.magazine-agent.com-sub.info/Popular-Photography/Welcome). Which was a good way to learn. 5. I never joined any photography forums like Flicker / Picasa until last year. But now i watch the pics from others in Flickr and see the camera settings that they used and try to do the same thing. And if its from your friend try to contact them and ask how they do it or search on youtube. For eg - Even take this thread. No one told me that my saturation is too much until now. May be they think ppl will feel bad if they tell about their mistakes. But for learners its the best help. Hope these points help to those who just started even with a P&S. Happy shooting, KMeeg.
  14. Hi All, May be you guys will not agree. But I was never in to smoking or alcohol. When ever I was with my friends in a party or trip or anything I’ll just have a juice or something like that. That could be 1 reason I save few extra bucks for a hobby or for some gas to go places with my family& friends and enjoy more.. KMeeg.
  15. Thanks Magnum. Yeah that's true.. Also i wish the DSLR prices be more reasonable so everyone can afford them in SL.. More pics from Canon PowerShot ELPH 500 HS - 2 pics of macro attempt and a long exposure attempt but did not came out well.. 16. As promised my little Point & Shoot Challenge.. Thanks Schiffer for the tip inserting flickr images to forum.. Click this link to view all images of Point & Shoot Challenge in full resolution - https://www.flickr.com/photos/kasunmeegahapola/sets/72157644958821581/ Sony DSC-S980 Canon PowerShot ELPH 500 HS Apple iPhone 5s Hope you enjoy the pics & feel free to comment or even criticize. That is good way for me to improve. I enjoyed this 'Point & Shoot Challenge' too, instead of carrying the DSLR carrying a point and shoot around my neighborhood while some giving me funny looks.. KMeeg.
  17. Q: What happens to the vehicles after you test them? A: Vehicles subjected to high-speed crash tests at the Institute's Vehicle Research Center are essentially unrepairable. These cars are issued nonrepairable certificates and sold under contract to vehicle salvage operations for recycling. For a list of VINs of nonrepairable vehicles tested by the Institute, go here. 18. This is a tool i use to create signature for my pics. Go to below link & select 'Design' icon. You can easily create a signature for your pics. Link - http://www.picmonkey.com/ Hope it helps, KMeeg.
  19. Guys, correct me if i'm wrong. I believe the safety tests done by IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) is done at the speeds around 40MPH ( Converted to 64.37Kmph). Even at this speeds some 'German workhorses' fail. In addition check IIHS top safety picks for 2013. It doesn't matter whether its 'German workhorses' / Japanese / even Korean. If you are looking for a safe car buy a model with top safety rankings and drive safely. Link - http://www.iihs.org/iihs/ratings/TSP-List/2013 If you want to drive fast then learn and drive in race tracks. There are many schools or places where you can learn. For those who are in SL if you want to learn racing try to contact some racing body or even try to contact any AL member who is in to racing (For an eg - Darin W). Drive safe and enjoy life with family & friends, KMeeg.
  20. According to sample pics its a very good camera. Link - http://www.pixel-peeper.com/cameras/?camera=1775 BTW, this is the main site i use when i'm buying camera or lens to see the sample pics. I know these pics might be edit (post production) but still gives me a good idea what i can do with that particular camera or lens. I your case looks like your camera support many lenses addition to Olympus. Like Sigma, Panasonic, Pentax, Samyang, etc.. Good luck and hope to see some nice pics from you. KMeeg.
  21. Phones - I have old Pantech Burst (5 mplx cam) & Galaxy S2 (8 mpxl cam) also. Reason is we only pay a small amount for the phone when we buy a mobile connection in contract basis. Eg - Iphone 5S 16gb with contract $199. Best deal was Galaxy S2 Skyrocket is $90 and got a Walmart gift card for $100 also bought Pantech Burst for $1, etc.. But the mobile plans are very high. Eg - I pay around $120 for 2 lines unlimited talk + text + 10gb data. But in that case SL is very lucky to have cheap mobile plans.. I also plan to buy Galaxy Note4 as my current mobile plan is almost completed. Heard the Galaxy Note4 is launching early September. Heard lot of good featured that would come with Note4 over Galaxy S5 (as per Note4 rumors). Anyways not sure yet whether it will be funny looking talking with a big phone. Also Iphone 6 seems to have good improvements too (as per iphone 6 rumors). Anyways what ever 'Home chief minister' = wife says i will buy.. And prob will wait till Sept for Iphone 6 or Note 4. <Plz plz don't misunderstand and treat this as a big talk. Just take it as info> Flickr - I tried coping the direct URL but gave error something like 'Image format does not support in this forum'. Let me try the steps Schiffer gave when i post my next set of images. Started my Point & shoot challenge with Sony & Canon cameras. Will provide the results probably by this weekend.. KMeeg.
  22. Thanks for the info. I have few points on this ; Filters - I have few filters Hoya HD(52mm Cir-Pl), Hoya HD Pro (58mm UV), Hoya EVO (72mm UV), Hoya HD 2 (77mm lens protector). Out of these one thing i notice the Hoya EVO tend to absorb more dust and i have to clean it very often. But haven't notice much dust on Hoya HD Pro & Hoya HD 2. Lens pen & cleaning cloth - Lens pen I use was good for only 1 or 2 months. After that the tip was leaving particles on the lens. So I only use the brush. The cheapo cleaning cloth was way better for me in cleaning the lens (I mean the lens protectors which is fixed to the lenses all the time) Bag - Actually this is a point I never thought of. Basically my bag is not a new one. I got an awesome deal over ebay for a Nikon bag which was a 'Refurbished' one. So i have no idea about the early condition of the bag, meaning it could already come with fungus. Other point is when i shoot in Snow or rain the bag gets wet and I never put it in sun to dry. So there is a chance of foaming fungus. But my camera is normally outside the bag (But right next to the bag in closet). May be its better to buy a new bag. Changing lenses - I try to be careful as much as possible like keeping the camera pointed down while changing lens or switching off A/C in car if I’m changing lens in car etc.. But I can remember once I was shooting in snow and came inside my house to change lens and notice that mist was foamed inside the lens. But the mist went off after sometime. Other – I haven’t really try to shoot in a desert place but once I went to a place which is kinda desert which has very soft sand and has lot of dust in the air but did not try to change lens as I was able to see sand particles on my hand and when I wipe still the sand doesn’t not go off. Mostly my shooting places will be more of moist than dust. Basically it’s kinda disappointing that Nikon D610 been a weather sealed camera but giving all these problems.. Anyways I will be getting the camera tomorrow (Hopefully) and will see what they say. I might have to pay if Nikon doesn’t admit it’s a camera problem. If I have to pay it will be around $100 for a Full frame. And each lens cleaning will cost $18 each. Hope this discussion helps to all camera users, KMeeg.
  23. Yes sir...
  24. Nice pics Schiffer.. I will start a 'point and shoot challenge' over the weekend and post them.. But my point and shoot camera's are pretty old and no way near the quality of your pics, but will give a try.. Small question - How to put images from Flickr. When i try to use the image functionality on edit window its giving as Image type not supported error. But when i upload images from 'Photo Bucket' site no probs. Any suggestions for Flickr pics? KMeeg..
