  1. Did your father accompany you during the car hunt? If so, now it is a good chance to convince him that you have to pay unworthy prices for most of the second hand Toyotas... The car you are talking about is almost 18 years old with apparent 180000 on the clock and having issues that you could identify. How was the mechanical condition? My opinion is that there are better cars of other brands for the same price range...(other than Indian ones)

  5. Thanks everyone for the advices. Anyway I got it fixed yesterday evening. It was not that hard as I thought earlier. I thought the entire hub assembly would have to be removed to put the new stud in. But I could do it just by removing the caliper. It is even easier if it was the rear wheel (had to do that during a service as one rear stud got damaged) Bought the bolt from a spare parts store; not much sure about the quality though...
  6. Today evening I broke one wheel stud of the front wheel while trying to change a wheel. I won't be able to visit the garage tomorrow to fix it. Is it safe to drive around with 3 lug nuts on in a front wheel drive hatchback, just for a couple of days?
  7. I have seen several ads on Sunday classifieds about such services. You may able to find at least one in last Sunday papers. Classified sites may also have such listings. However, better to get one with a recommendation.
  8. At the time of the opening of E01, there was a rule enforcing all the passengers to wear seat belts. Now it is not even heard of. No one at the entrance gates check whether rear passengers are buckled up. Always ensurel that you and your loved ones are properly wearing the seat belts, at least when on expressways...
  9. If you are looking for such option, units are available for around Rs: 400-500 in Pettah and other car audio shops.
  10. Hello Don, Are you looking for a branded unit? If not, I can recommend the Chinese unit that I use. It has almost all the necessary features like: Radio GPS - can be used with SALA system. Playing through USB & microSD cards TV (not that much useful) Bluetooth connectivity - calls can be made/answered too IPod connectivity CD / DVD Can couple a reverse camera (I'm not using any) Remote control Sound quality is OK. It is not as great as a JVC / Kenwood with a set of branded speakers. Perfectly fits to a DDIN. I've been using this for nearly 4 months without an issue now. I have one year warranty as well. Got it installed from a famous place in Kadawatha. Cost is about 35 and will be aound 38 with the reverse camera installed.
  11. GayanR might be reffering to the road feedback factor as here: http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/Bridgestone/Ecopia-EP150.htm I also switched to a set of Ecopia 175/70/14 set yesterday. Yet early to comment. Anyway I switched from Japan Bridgestone (originals came with the car) to this. So I might not feel a huge difference.
  12. Yes checked with them [011-2333396] 10,000/- for the base system with 1 wireless door sensor and 1 motion sensor. Additional motion sensor: 1500/- Additional door sensor: 600/- So it is close to your estimate. Supports upto 24 sensors Comes with warranty. Does your one have a separate siren? or is it built into the main unit. In the above mentioned one, it is built into the main unit as they said. May be not loud enough...
  13. Thanks for the info. Crosswind: Are you talking about Microzone in Pettah? Couldn't find Micro Systems there... Aravinda: Yes I've faced such a situation too. Thanks for the advice. Elnino: I thought of importing two sets at once. One for me and one for a friend. I will reconsider that if I am to order this.
  14. Has anyone ordered a home security system like this from eBay? http://www.ebay.com/itm/R10-GSM-Voice-DIY-Wireless-Home-Alarm-Security-Burglar-System-Auto-Call-Dialer-/221414970133?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item338d5c5315 I just want to know what were the proceedings at the customs for such order. Thanks.
  15. Checked the prices for 175/70/14 size. Bridgestone Japanese 16000+ Bridgestone none Japanese 10350 (Indoonesian or somewhere else, can't remember exactly) Dunlop 10800 Maxxis 8800 GT 9000 If I considerabout Bridgestone, What is the actual quality difference between Jaapanese and non-Japanese tyres?
  16. Apply sandpaper treatment and do a spray; it will look like new. But the paint may get discoloured after few years.
  17. I think RMV is offerring upto CAC only at the moment (fortunately). Otherwise, he could have wasted more money on obtaining an even further number.
  18. Exactly Nishan. I also follow a similar approach when buying a used vehicle. But there are people who would buy a vehicle without thinking much about the mech/body/running condition just because it holds a TOYOTA badge or a new number plate. My friend is rather expecting a 150k-200k margin over a same age car with KX plates (in 5 years)
  19. Thats just right. What I told him also was to go on with the ongoing KX series and keep the car in topping condition. So then it would hold its value and will be easier to sell. Anyway he has the manufacturing year info to prove the actual age ne
  20. A friend of mine is trying to get a 3 letter numberplate for his newly imported Aqua. Now the charges are 50k for CAA, 60k for CAB and 70k for CAC, as he told me. When he asked about this, I did not agree to it as a good idea. But his point is that it would increase the resale value even after 4-5 years. What do you guys think?
  21. Adding something to the office fun... Once I was working for an ISP. A marketeer there sent a quoattion to a customer including at item called "Sperm Filter Module" Where it should actually be "Spam Filter Module" (for their mail server) Auto correction, may be...
  22. Thanks. So in which case the oil consumption is higher?
  23. Rumesh, Nice explanation. BTW, can you elaborate on this a bit more?

    Steam Cleaning

Anyone having recent experience with steam cleaning the interior? Would like to know the places / packages and the duration of the process. Thanks.
  25. There are portable airconditioners available in some places as I've seen. A firend of mine bought a used one through a classified site... Price and power consumption are remarkably higher compared to fans and air coolers.
