I know its hard but ROCK HARD means something is not right Did you use a new clutch kit when doing the restoration ?. Fitting new master and slave pumps & hose and lubing the clutch return spring can give some mild releif if its really that bad. On the plus side you do get a really strong left leg

Modern common rails would benefit if they had ultra low sulfur diesel (ULSD), with a sulfur content between 10 - 50 ppm. Might be quite a long wait before we get that though...

For the manual what you get is 5 Speed AFAIK. Full service history would be essential 2. Get a full inspection done by the independant specialist or agents 3. Try out all the electrical options to see whether they are in working order. As some of them can be very expensive to replace. 4. On some engine codes, the water pump is driven by the Timing belt and should be replaced along with the Tbelt at 60K. If only the Tbelt has been replaced then its essential to replace the water pump if milage more than this !

The hose on my unit has split near the connection to the main unit. I suppose one can cut the hose and use the good part (part to be cut is < 5 cm) and then fix the locking nut at the new edge (looks like the hose end is crimped to the nut section). Anyone know where I can get the hose repaired ? oh and the brand is WIPRO

I use one as a daily runner and haven't been dissapointed. Just like any other vehicle problems will crop up, when they do, if good quality parts are used and knowledgeable hands attend to it there is no issue. Also goes without saying that routine and preventive maintenance should be carried out diligently. Parts can be expensive if you only source from main stealers. E bay is a good alternative for small & medium stuff. One of the weak points is the clutch cylinders... tend to leak ever so often. But the replacements are not that pricey and replacement is a simple DIY. It might have something to do with the brand of brake oil used as IIRC the manual says use only Castrol... I havent used it and have been using Lockheed from day 1. Next time I will switch to castrol and see whether there is actually a difference. Engine wise upto 300Tdi, very simple and economical.. TD5 onwards it starts getting pricey... But its not for every one.... if you want a quite, comfortable, easy, sedate ride with no surprises, then forget it... then again if you're a bit of the adventurous and mechanically inclined kind... well then... by all means go for it.
