  1. Now, out of the blues, all these importers with plenty of stocks of normal cars suddenly have plenty of stocks of pickup trucks for immediate import I don't even know what is going on...does the latest gazette only open up goods transport and mass public transport vehicles ?
  2. Probably should be okay. I just don't know what they put out of the factory (99.9% certain it is what is in the book). Since the car's service manual reflects the Japanese regulated service cycle it says 3 years from new and then replace every other shaken inspection (which gives it a 4 year life span).
  3. Okay I won't.... I am not saying it is in SL...see...not a word I wouldn't worry about it at all in Japan. Just drop it off at the dealership and they call me back when it is ready. Geez...that is pricey just for coolant.
  4. Oy ! Enough of this &()#*## ! Ko pinthura ? We are very visual creatures. Give us pics or the only way we can cope with all this is convincing ourselves that this car of yours is nothing more than a figment of your imagination
  5. If the oil had not been changed for a long time (was black and thick coming out)....it probably would be prudent to put an engine flush and do another oil change sooner than the 5000km/6month plan. There might be a bit of sludge deposited here and there. Also, it would be a good test to see how the seals are. If there was any sludge blocking any worn out seals they will get unclogged and you will have to replace them (in SL garages discourage you from using flushes because they don't want to replace oil seals...they would much rather have you drive around with a sludgey engine).
  6. What is the color of the car ? Like @Hyaenidae stated if the color is completely different from the entire car an eager cop might give you trouble for it. Depending on the color of the car you can do what some people I know of have done. They just took a very very almost blacking color of the body color and painted bonnets and racing tripes and roofs in that color (so a gunmetalic car has a dark grey that is almost black and a red car has a dirty blood red almost black)
  7. Yeah...trolled their posts till they started to take them off They literally posted stocks belonging to Nissan and Toyota used car dealerships claiming to be their stock. Then a few days later the same style of adverts started appearing under some other name. Just don't believe any of the prices anyone claims. Nothing is known yet, so everyone is just grasping at straws.
  8. Isn't it funny that although the coolant is rated as such the maintenance cycle (including shaken inspection requirements) require it to be swapped every 2 (or 3) years ? I suppose it is a blanket policy to cover cooling systems in various states of operational efficiency. How much exactly is that ? The Corolla Touring is nearing 3 years so will require a complete fluid swap. Looking for products.
  9. Congratulations !
  10. and with that over to you @matroska
  11. What kind of servicing have you done to the gearbox in the past (or recently) ? Fluid change ? Filter change/clean ?
  12. In the past people have used Amayama and even FromJapan. I have no idea how the service is like these days. Considering how popular the HiAce is and all the modifications we do over here, are you sure you cannot find the seat belts locally? You should compare prices before buying them from a foreign site. Don't forget to include the shipping price (which can be high if you are looking for the recoil 3-point seatbelts because they are heavy) and the cost of import duties (which can be high if you have to end up paying it....customs might not charge you anything because it is for personal consumption but you never know).
  13. Yeah..which is why I said provided if you are willing to pay for it. The restorations and such where people are willing to drop money on they do a good job. General repair paint...bleh...not that good not that bad...
  14. So the answer is buried within @matroska's reply. Should we wait for someone else to actually answer or give it to our resident multimedia container?
  15. No clues necessary...I will just say that there was a certain car customizing doctor (who did not have a Honda Integra) who started chopping up one of these to drop a 2JZ into.
  16. Where is the fun in that ? I would like to think we have been even worst than before Can confirm that SprayMech is still pretty good PROVIDED you are asking for a high-quality job and is paying for it. Seen some restorations getting done there which were really good. I also saw some quick and dirty insurance fix-ups, which were not much different from your average place. Mind you, this is just painting. If tinkering is needed for a restoration then they would get you to get that done somewhere else.
  17. Uhhh....well....typically for a mid-sized car you will need about 75-100. However this also depends on the car and what it has (like what type of ignition/fuel system, other accessories/features in the car, etc...). What is the car ? Finding out what the manufacturer put in the car would be a good start.
  18. Are the sensors covered with mud or anything ? Give the car a good clean and see what happens. If not you should take it to the agents or a reputed garage to get a scan done. It could be that a sensor has gone bad. If you do a diagnostic read of the ECU you should get an error code or two that would help narrow it down. Problem with new cars with these integrated driving aid and safety features and vechile control systems is that sometimes the visible fault can be in one place while the reason for the fault somewhere completely different.
  19. That is the thing...if you have a decent car...it probably is best to hold on to it at this stage. There are way too many vultures simply waiting to exploit the situation by spreading fake news. A whole lot of Japanese owned exporters stopped exporting to Sri Lanka decades ago because of all the LC racketeering. Have you noticed that most of these "we are ready to import" adverts are either anonymous or some unknown entity who has "just entered the market"? The "veteran" importers (who are usually also exporters from Japan) seem to be more focussed on getting the government to extend the age limits. I like to troll those posts. Have received some nicely worded DMs too Sad truth is Sri Lankans have not gotten their money's worth when it comes to cars for a long time. A majority coming in were junk cars and it is going to continue. But you are right...desperation of the buyers are most likely going to lead to these importers taking advantage of them even more. I actually like this idea. A good tax history should result in duty credits for a vehicle import. I believe a similar program was there a long time ago. My uncle got a Civic FD (when they were still brand new) through something like that.
  20. The heading of your thread and its body doesn't line up. For starters the NEW Yaris only has a 1.5L Hybrid. A newer version of what is in the Axio/Aqua. The old Yaris which is most commonly found as Vitz in SL (because that model was called Vitz in Japan) is also the same. But with an older 1.5L Hybrid system. The 1L 1KR engine (which is pure petrol) is really weak. It is slow and lethargic. With more than two people climbing up a hill the engine is going to be whining like crazy. The 1L Vitz in Japan is mostly used as a business car for city deliveries and as rental cars. Have used quite a few of them (unfortunately) and hated all every single one of it. The same engine was put on the new Yaris with some minor updates. It still sucked. Compared to the 1L Vitz the 1.3L Sunny will feel like it is having a nice stroll around the park sipping on a cappuccino. The 1300cc Fit and Aqua will do a lot better, provided that the Hybrid system is properly working.
  21. So my hunch was right...the prices they quoted was for the bottom of the barrel 3 year old cars If the age restriction was lifted or extended to 7 or something..they can buy older bottom of the barrel cars and make an even larger profit. also....everyone seems excited about the "MORE THAN 3 YEARS OLD" categories in the HS Code tax rate declaration. Seems like they never knew that in the tax rate declaration, that was always there. The car sales guys are also staying so quiet about it because I feel they want to stir up the pot and then go to the government and say "look the people are asking for this". Actually, if you look at it..and what seems to be missed is...what we got on the 10th of January was the gazette approving the new tax rates. We still have not seen the gazette approving the import of personal vehicles (the previous one if you look at it carefully was for public transportation vehicles). IKR ? Disgusting. Stir up the market with false claims of vehicle prices dropping down significantly. Get people to panic sell their cars for cheap. Now, claiming that vehicle costs will be 300% higher than before. I have been criticized for saying this...but sorry...we as a country are simply not educated. Not as a collective group. If we were actually educated...how can our masses fall for this BS every single time ? Reading, writing and basic arithmetic skills do not constitute education. Now...all this talk of vehicle imports...I have not heard any single plan from anyone about how they are going to safeguard the forex reserves or not tank the rupee (c'mon..all these people running ot buy cars is going to drive up the demand for USD...and there isn't anything that shows our exports are actually going to be improved). As always we seem to be doing things in reverse. We are all trying to come up with ways to bring down cars for cheap so that it fits our low income/budget and wealth levels. No one seems to be yelling and screaming about ways to increase our level of wealth so we can afford to buy a proper decent car at whatever the actual market value is.
  22. Hybrid. It is sold by Nissan as a Hybrid
  23. That has always been there. In the HS codes and tax declarations for most things there are taxation clauses for cases that would fall out of any conditions. Usually the age limit of the car is defined in the actual gazette itself. Not the tax framework. I don't think we have seen the actual gazette opening up the imports. Just the gazette formalizing the new tax structure. Yes it is classified as a Hybrid as sold by Nissan as one as well. Since PHEVs are also in the scene in most countries the definition of an EV is a vehicle solely moved with electric motors and external charging. Our local definitions are a bit old. ...isn't luxury tax still there? In which case a Hybrid costing more than 4mil and a gasoline that costs more than 3.5mil will still get LT charged. Depending on what is going to happen to the ruppee that can include quite a lot of cars. When there is a flat rate and a per CC rate, they use whichever is higher (I beleive the gazette formalizing this tax structure also states it). So for anything up to about 800cc (i.e. a kei car) the excess tax will be 1,992,000 (because till about 813cc 2450xCC amount will be lesser than 1.9mil) and for something like a 1L Yaris it will be 2,450*997cc. 3 years. Age limits and other conditions are defined by customs and the gazette that ensues specifically for importing vehicles. So...when we were importing our car we didn't have a "current" purchase invoice showing the value of the car. Nor did we have any LCs, etc.. (obviously). What we had was the invice for a brand-new purchase of the car from 1.5 years ago. They took that, and depriciated it by 15%. Compared it with the value we gave and took the higher value (we, declared the current Japan market value as 2.4mil yen... what the customs here didn't take into account was that the 3.207mil you see included the registration cost of about 213,000yen and interest payment to Toyota Financial for a 5 year old loan...which we closed out in 1 year and the interest payment was much lower as well. So the brand new value of just the car was only about 2.8mil yen. So I suppose a depreciation table is used for cases like this ? Also, I sought of figured they would be using a depreciation table when all these duty-free cars of expats/diplomatic agencies/etc...already in the country gets transferred to anyone without duty-free privileges. But yes ! That table is as confusing as confusing can be,
  24. Oh no no...the Y61 has been in production continuously. It is big business in the middle east (where they have all these cool versions of it) and is sold in Africa and Australia. Sadly, with the launch of the Y63 Nissan announced that the Y61 will be retired in 2025/2026. I thikn this would be a mistake. They should keep the Y61 going on. Sort of like the roughand tough utilitarian version of the Patrol while the 63 is the more luxe version. Kind of like the 70 series and the 300 series for Toyota. Some people say it is getting retired because of the upcoming Pajero which has been and would be a direct competitor to the Y61. I hope plans have changed with Nissan's ongoing issues and upcoming mergers.
  25. Well...that wasn't a very sunny ending....but WTH ?? You should know to NEVER EVER agree to carry anything that is white and powdery for anyone! High risk of getting yourself in jail or with a doctor...sunny experience it will not be. So are you looking for the Mexican name of the Sri Lankan name?
