  1. at one post OP mentions about nozzles that was the hitch for me to assume it's diesel.
  2. Many happy returns of the day Rukster
  3. I'd say check both of the universal joints not forgetting to check gearbox mounts as Ripper said. and ripper, no it doesn't have spark plugs afaik
  4. I see the topic description says low weekly running among other reasons. I say, if running is low, then best would be a petrol considering the initial cost of ownership, high service costs, high repair costs and if it calls, frequent engine re-builds compared to a petrol. I've had lots of diesels and as ripper said, it's really cheap/worth and breaks even when you have lots to run around also diesel motors should keep occupied to be in perfect health, or else if you tend to keep it idling without even starting for few days then the initial starting might be difficult as it demands a good charge in the battery, carbon build ups coz of not being used often or short runs always result in partially burnt diesel particles inside the chamber so carbon build up of the valves and chamber would be high, frequent issues in injector nozzles also can be expected if the diesel tend to keep idling than in use. do a comparison of cost factors considering all including engine re-build with the petrol and see how many kilometers should you run to break even. If the figure is within the range you run per month, decide against a petrol, but keep in mind that driving pleasure and ride comfort are also compromised (except for some exclusive diesels running about)
  5. All right, so you've had no intention to look down but inspiring us by asking how long would it take us to do the same thing? great, if you say so and if that stands I'll take my word back by all means. Simply don't like the attitude of some people who always tend to praise what other countries are capable of doing without knowing the resources, talent, skills we still have here after lots of intelligent and resourceful people had moved out/migrated over a period of time.
  6. you can twist your own statement the way you want and it's you who says it's neutral. It's got nothing to do with the inner personal feelings what so ever. one question, are you living in Sri Lanka?
  7. yeah right, probably you asked that question to update your statistical base eh? So next time some one asks a question like how much time it takes to re construct a tsunami struck road in sri lanka, you will be able to answer referring to the statistics? You gotta be kidding mate, look down wasn't there alone in the sentence quoted but the entire post with un necessary comparison with japs look, accepting mistakes and move on is something and trying to cover up or trying to prove 'no i didn't say so' is not the best way to move forward. You'll simply be another IJ in this forum.
  8. sales terms in actual terminology would looks like this perhaps.. Pearl White - Quick respray, paint is wet still, so sparkling Done 40.000km - That's the best I could do with the ODO adjustment Intelligent Key - Ready for a dumb user/owner Push Start - Starter motor had failed $$$ for a new one. Winker Mirrors - Retro fitted them as I'm desperate to sell this crap Just Cleared - stayed in custom yards for few years
  9. I'm sure you haven't seen how the rail track and roads were repaired in Sri Lanka with the available resources and funds and mainly using man power after the Tsunami struck. Quite impressive work they've done and we were ahead than other Tsunami victimized countries in the region in restoring the damaged infrastructure. You don't always have to compare with someone else and look down at what we have as a country.
  10. Happy B'day Di .. ooops, sorry, yeah got it right, WATCHMAN !!..ehem
  11. CE 106 would be possible but again not an easy find. 108 is easily above 1.4 mil mark afaik.
  12. There were auctions for single items but if you request the seller they'll offer pair. This is usually the case for all LH, RH items such as side mirrors etc on ebay. You can chrome plate the reflector if the headlight and glass lens is intact. Used to know a place where they carried out this but as of recent I heard them not carrying out certain types of plating, but give a bump on this number and see Jayadan Electro platers - 0717757547
  13. Hats off for the effort and glad to see there are more 504 fans around. By the look of it, this is a 504 L which mainly imported during the infamous common-wealth summit in mid 70's. A nicely done restoration project I must say. I doubt you will find brand new ducelier or marshal head lights in SL. However, you can buy Valeo headlights from Ideal Automotive for sure. Try countries like Egypt, Iran (if you have any contacts) they had marshal original lights. Alternately try ebay for head lights and floor mats even.
  14. I'm afraid not, as the energy source in the bicycle is the cyclist, and it has to be used in the energy source, which means it's you in return. But hell no, don't stuck up one of these, remembering what had happened to that bull in my story.. you'll run around spewing beer all around
  15. Daihatsu Mira and Perodua kelisa are the same AFAIK and Un*mo suppose to be the agents for Perodua. Check with them as Malasian counterpart would be less expensive than the original one. Are you looking for the driver side power shutter console which has controls for all shutters ? can't that be repaired alternatively ?
  16. seems you're not updated about the market . I'd consider you're lucky if you get hold of a CE108, at least a 65 - in this range.
  17. A friend of mine got astound by seeing the features an ordinary Euro car has and his 5 mil + Allion doesn't and now very well convinced a Euro would be a better bet than spending absurd amounts on these boxes.
  18. Got little late to response as I've fixed an Apsara MKIII to the bullock-cart of my neighbour. Maaaan.. that bull started spewing out grass outta it's mouth 'n a$$ and started running around at a speed with the tail flying up in air and the cart was almost air born.
  19. Seems like one of your headlights having an issue in connectors, either the (+)ve (most likely) or the earth. Since you said it's the low beam of left light which doesn't glow properly, I suspect that to be + line from the low beam relay. First, try to sort out the wiring of the entire head lamp circuit whilst make sure to use extra thick wires with fuses appropriately. You'll get good results as the sealed beam headlamps of J44 suppose to be very powerful.
  20. you got a point considering the number of SDIQ's on this forum, well, if someone gonna take this seriously, then they don't deserve the right to drive a vehicle I guess. just like that guy hooked up a bag of sands to porting and polishing the intake manifold.
  21. What if an Apsara unit fixed to a bullock-cart ? or bull perhaps?
  22. There are other factors also to be looked at rather than the reliability. Found rather independent review on Automobile Association's website, perhaps more unbiased than of a results published by a car sales entity. http://www.theaa.com/allaboutcars/cartestreports/index.jsp specifically about freelander http://www.theaa.com/allaboutcars/cartestreports/2004008.html
  23. seems this is one of those third gen fuel savers. The first generation didn't do much than fooling the buyers, the second however, was much better and they helped the drivers to come up with almost hybrid fuel figures and nevertheless the third generation do wonders. They in-fact re-generate fuel inside the tank, that's why VVTi's tank was over flowing, I need an Apsara.
  24. still i don't see any relevance of the survey you've posted here. Same question, mazda is the highest reliable brand as per the list you shared, but in sl context mazda tribute and rx with vankel engine has reliability issues, may be something to do with local conditions, that's why again, a uk base survey sometimes means nothing for a person who's looking to buy in local context.
  25. dude he's asking for some reliability factors in relation to sri lanka and i doubt how this uk based online review helps him and further this review is generally about the brand across all models. it's a fact that even within the model range of a make/brand there are reliable and unreliable models, releases, so judging by the make is not the best way to go. For an example the freelander he's asking about, there was a particular model which has bad reputation in terms of reliability, i'm not quite sure which one exactly so i'll leave that to some landy expert to comment, devinda, duty calls. even if mazda is most reliable in this context, do you think the op would buy a tribute over a landy? It's an effed up reputation the tribute has in sl, the most reliable brand in uk huh. P.S - i think op knows how to google.
