Answer is simply YES. automatic version, diesel version and petrol version has different final drive ratios. -
Wish him a speedy recovery and my prayers will be with him.

<blockquote class='ipsBlockquote'data-author="sira" data-cid="239241" data-time="1367901840">

Hi

can you please let me know the diagnosis process to rectify the exat issue.

In a rear wheel drive vehicle, this can be done by applying hand brakes/ or brakes and rotating / wiggle the propeller shaft while keeping the clutch depressed. That way you isolate the the clutch from the system and testing the final drive only. However, in a front wheel drive car this cannot be tested that way. If at all judging should be done by the sound and from where it comes. Still it's a bit tricky identify precisely. Give it another try to rotate the left wheel while someone keep the clutch depressed to see whether there's any difference of the sound?
-
it is indeed related and clutch can be involved as when the vehicle is in 1st gear, and the clutch is released (obviously when you're trying to spin the wheel back and forth with a wheel lifted off the ground) the motion of the wheel goes through final drive, gearbox, clutch, pressure plate and ply wheel and then the crank. So any issue/play/sound of the components I've mentioned can be the cause for this play and the sound. without hearing the sound and experiencing from where it comes, i cannot say it's coming from the clutch for sure but what I'm saying is there is a possibility. So better check the little thigns first before dismantling the gearbox to repair the pinion/final drive.
-
are you certain that this is backlashing final drive pinion? this sound can be a result of broken load springs of the clutch plate.

<blockquote class='ipsBlockquote'data-author="Crosswind" data-cid="238845" data-time="1367369062">
Here are some big cars for u to consider, within uour price bracket

A32 Cefiro
Hyundai sonata/Kia Optima/Daewoo Leganza
Citroen Xantia
slightly older Toyota Camry/Vista

If you can find a Xantia, it might be a good choice for you especially because its a 406 underneath.

Highly discourage the xantia although it's a 406 in terms of engine and drive train. Issue is the hydro pneumatic suspension system which is very hard to keep without leaking and issue free. Remember this is not heresay and it's based on examples I've seen. In terms of euro cars OP can focus the VW range, Passat and Bora Peugeot 406 D8 ( a friend bought a late registered H plate 1997 non HDI diesel 406 for 1.1 about a week back ), even some D9 s I've witnessed going at close to 1mil mark. 306 is certainly available at that mark but less comfy and space. There are handful of diesel 605s which are still in good nick, still the electrics are all messed up in almost every car. While being a Peugeot enthusiast I like the fact that people consider them as buying options, in fact I did the same thing as a student. The difference in what I did was I bought a 504 with a Japanese diesel plant paying 190k. So maintenance was brisk and I had some money left. pumping diesel at 50 Rs a litre wasn't an issue as well. At the same time I don't wanna see someone with a limited budget buy one cheap (probably not maintained properly) and run around without spending on preventive maintenance and later accuse the brand is not good or not suitable to our country etc. These are lame excuses of those who doesn't maintain and who doesn't know their vehicles well. Having said that there are some models which would be hard to maintain in Sri lankan context, xantia and C5 and most of renaults would fall into that category. So best to proceed with a caution if OP considers these as options. No offense intended to OP but if you're only looking to buy a 605 just because it's affordable without considering it's maintenance, best is to stick to a non euro car.
-
605 may not be the best peugeot out there for a student to buy. Fuel consumption is higher than an average peugeot and the electrics and most of the features are bit complex and meant for experts. While the engine shares most of the components of 406, the other bits may be expensive. One more thing I noticed in 605s is that almost all specimens are molested to some extend. If you can come across an unmolested good example at a reasonable price, the equation will become favorable for you.

I too experienced this hissing sound from the booster of one of 504s I used. I thought it's the booster but later it was revealed that, the valve which opens when you press the brake pedal (don't know the name, that's the valve which allows atmostphere air pressure) was faulty and causing the hissing sound.

which pump in question? master or the slave? was looking out for a repair kit of the slave pump and lucky enough to buy the complete pump for around 5k couple of years back from Piliyandala. I'm sure the same pumps are being used in canters or similar mitsu heavy vehicles and prices of those are relatively lesser.

What Is The Highest Mileage Vehicle You Have Seen
harshansenadhir replied to dpbatagoda's topic in General Automotive
This may not be the best example as topic suggests the highest mileage vehicle you have seen and this Peugeot 406 I haven't seen. It's a HDI D9 406 with in excess of 1 mil kilometers on the odo. It's none other than the 406 which was belonging to Saman dewalaya - Rathnapura, don't know whether it's still there or changed hands. -
Nice work Nishan, There's no OEM amp meter, must be your dad's handy work The successor of J44, Pajero got a voltage meter.
-
you said when the sound comes, car sways. This sway back and forth or sideways (left/right). if the sway is sideways, then there should be some play in the wheels. If it's back and forth, most likely the mounts.
-
lower arm bushes are gone and tire moves forward and backwards? from which side you hear the noise? do this test, keep the car stationed, apply parking brakes and put the gear to neutral. Then try to push/roll each of the front wheels backwards forward using your foot to see whether there's a play. or else, ask a friend to watch while you release the clutch in first gear and reverse gear to see whether there's a significant movement of each of the front wheels. also check the engine and gearbox mounts for cracked/loosen mounts.

How Good Is This Battery + Alternator Test
harshansenadhir replied to NRX's topic in General Automotive
seems the idler mechanism is working as it works for A/C (or are there two separate idle up valves? ) however, the input to the idle up valve from headlight relays/switch may be faulty. -

Yes, can do with a multimeter. nope -
How Good Is This Battery + Alternator Test
harshansenadhir replied to NRX's topic in General Automotive
Previous instances of not having enough juice to crank happened after a night drive with A/C? looks like the charging at idle with accessories is little less specially if it drops to 12v sometimes. Battery holding 12.33 after two days of not being started is a good sign of the battery but carry out a battery test at a trust worthy place. they check every cell for the ability of holding power. carry out following test to ensure that there's no current flaw back to the circuit from battery, 1 . make sure all accessories are properly switched off (not even a door lamp should be switched on when you're doing this test, best of the fuse of the setup also can be taken off as some sound setups take little current to maintain the memory) 2. remove the positive wire connector from the battery terminal. 3. take a 12V bulb with lesser wattage such as a parking bulb (T10) and wire it and test whether it's working. 4. then attach one wire of the bulb to battery terminal and the other wire to the (+) positive wire which you have removed from battery terminal. if the light glows, then there's a current flaw back to the charging system if this test shows that there's a current flaw back to the system, then that explains as to why the car didn't start. get the charging regulator circuit or regulator cut out checked. -
Hybrid And Zero-Emissions Vehicles Photos And News

<blockquote class='ipsBlockquote'data-author="Californikan" data-cid="232463" data-time="1360453699">

All hybrids have an electric motor and hybrid battery that assists the ICE to get maximum efficiency or maximum power. Interesting. By the way what's a hybrid battery?? -

<blockquote class='ipsBlockquote'data-author="MasterDon" data-cid="232418" data-time="1360340790">

Really?EVs have been on the market only two years?..LOL...It was invented over a century ago and there have numerous attempts at it over the years but none have been able to perfect the technology still...Even for SL electric cars are nothing new.I remember in the early 2000s c******o imported an electric Indian car called the Reva and made a big fuss about it's so called benefits.Only 20 or 30 units were sold(most were bought by c******o themselves as company cars) and it was so utterly impractical that within a year they were off the streets to be never seen again.

Well in cali's world, electric cars means tesla and hybrids in local context means the used ones brought down in masses after tax cut. Remember the other failed EV attempts such as EV1 by GM?. If there's technology breakthrough to dramatically increase the current efficiency level of batteries, we can think very positively about the future of EVs. -
how come apocalypto didn't turn up, or was it ? one of the best movies I watched. first unforgetable one was Gods must be crazy these sections of the movie are the most remarkable for me .. the LR series 1 .. luckily found a clip on youtube.. www.youtube.com/watch?v=lnU2DY9TRDs for the ones watched recently... 6 bullets www.youtube.com/watch?v=le-RwDPgI5U perfume unknown watched cold light of the day expecting some good action from bruce wills. Hybrid And Zero-Emissions Vehicles Photos And News
harshansenadhir replied to Californikan's topic in General Automotive
sounds familiar? isn't it the same thing many have been saying about the hybrids in local context? now you're saying the same thing about hydrogens. so in your own words, you have to be early adopters and try out new technology (future technology) without dissing it. So in same context, you have to start embrace hydrogen fuel cell based vehicles and try out and buy 'em risking your money, so that it'll help to develop the infrastructure, hydrogen fueling stations, etc. so let me ask the same question from you again, how many years it will take for hybrid vehicles cost, sales and infrastructure to reach the current 2012 conventional vehicle levels here in SL ? till then people will be skeptical. -
If the hose bursted due to aging, it's not an issue really. But if it's due to some another reason, that needs to be sorted out. Just find out whether the cooling system over pressures or not. For the sound, remove the auxiliary belts (some still refers to thses as fan belts / belt or belts depend of the design) and run the engine. If the whining noise continues, that comes either from water pump or t-belt rollers. If the noise goes off once you take the belts off, then it must be from belt itself, belt tensioner or one of components run by the belt such as alternator bearings, PAS pump or AC compressor.

It being sri lanka I doubt they'd take away such a lucrative revenue method.

you might want to call the RMV for more accurate information.

Conversion tax is still there. The 250,000 applies when the converting vehicle is within 4 years from the date of first registration. For the rest, it's 35,000. OP is asking for annual diesel taxes which were there from 1994 to 2002 or so. Later it was lifted off.

Did you check with gps navigation providers in the country, that whether they can program (upload the map) to this setup ?

Call 1919 and findout Diesel tax is no more, only luxury taxes remain. Can someone further confirm.
