  1. Well to see all the members in Autolanka are non smokers. In other words Autolanka is a smoking free zone. Starting a post with words like "I am not a smoker, but" is fascinating.
  2. Let me be clear it is a happy ending related to vehicle maintenance
  3. Yes Machang. I told you if I remember earlier that I am the guy with the soap gun. Anyhow their standard is very good, I guess you will agree from personal experience. If I tell them to do something they do it. They won't say "Sir, meh package eke naa". Even if I go for a wash and a vacuum which is Rs.450/=. They clean my air filter, tops up the windscreen cleaning fluid, checks the radiator fluid and brake oil levels etc. I have bought a 3M paste wax from them which they apply as well after each wash. So all that for Rs.450/= and I give them a tip of about Rs.300/=. Firstly because they do so much of additional work and also because they share the tips equally. There might be about 6 different guys attending to my vehicle at various different times and a tangible amount would go to each one of them. There maybe roughly about 10 guys working on a given day at the working station so one person will only get 30 bucks from the bigger amount. Also they are well stocked with nearly everything a vehicle needs. At the moment they are the best in the area. So I am recommending them because they are good. Still if there standards drop I will be also the first person to point that out.
  4. Go to Laug*fs Dehiwela. They use premium 3M products for their cut and polishing. I did a cut and polish, interior cleaning with all the seats removed from the car and a full service (which is free with the full detailing package) for Rs. 9980/=. If I could remember a cut and polish cost about 5k. Get details from their land number if your interested 0113588800.
  5. Thanks for all the replies. I went to the place to check out the unit and unsurprisingly I was disappointed. The MP3 Player/ Modulator advertised in this case will not make your car radio which you can only tune upto 90 MHz go upto 108Mhz. The sales person I spoke to knew the ins and outs of the product and this product only serves as a pure MP3 Player which could play MP3's over a designated frequency and nothing more. I have a smart phone with quite a large display and I purchased City Guide from dialog at a discounted rate of Rs.2000/= (the actual price was Rs.4000/=). Installed it on my phone and I also purchased a phone holder which could be fixed to the air vents. It was a cost effective solution and I am very satisfied with the performance. I was also interested in getting a Blaupunkt stereo systems from D*MO. I got a friend working there. He assured me of a 15% discount from the below mentioned prices. I am quoting from the particular email below. "The prices for CD Player Stereo Systems are as follows: 1. CD Player System with CD, MP3 and USB Port – Rs. 14,250 (inclusive of VAT) 2. CD Player Stereo System with CD, MP3, USB Port and Bluetooth – Rs. 18,500 (inclusive of VAT) 3. CD Player Stereo System with DVD Playability + CD, MP3, USB Port and Bluetooth – Rs. 23,000 (inclusive of VAT) – Does Not include Display 4. Stereo System Including Navigation System + DVD Playability and TV + all the above features – Rs. 81,000 (inclusive of VAT) – Includes Display / Does Not include Map Card – Need to be purchased separately. Please note the above setups do not include speakers . All products come from either Malaysia or China. All have a 1 year warranty for Manufacturing defects".
  6. Well I guess this is exactly how it is done. Otherwise I cannot think of a way that the vehicle speakers being used. Thanks for all the other prompt replies. Also I am guessing that the FM frequency preset and the car stereo frequency could be changed through the MP3 player/emulator. I am not endorsing their goods, but I have attached the link with a obvious alteration of the website name for better understanding of the product. https://myde*l.lk/deals.php?id=1768
  7. I am posting on this thread since I did not want to open a new thread for this topic. There is currently an offer at myde*l.lk for a multi function mp3 player/emulator with fm radio which works when plugged to the cigarette lighter of the car. I would like to buy this device as in my vehicle the frequency goes up to 90Mhz only. Also this device apparently could play from a USB pen drive. 1. Has any member had experience with these types of units?, and 2. From where does the sound come out when such units are plugged in. Is it the car speakers? Or the speakers in the mp3 player/emulator?
  8. First of all I must thank The Don for starting this thread. This thread will hopefully through time will be able to concentrate all the scattered information into the topic. 1. I have a Nissan March AK-12. I bought it in November last year. All this time the vehicles we have had were maintained by the company my father was working in. As the March was a personal acquisition I had to personally look into its maintenance and I did not have any previous experience to rely on. Through talking to people I found that there is this guy called Ravi Perera at No.595, Kandy Road, Bulugaha Junction, Kelaniya, just 1km after the Peliyagoda Flyover on the left hand side if your going to Kelaniya. Contact nos are . 0722-142143 and 0723-444444. He specializes in Nissans and actually do not accept other brands of vehicles unless the person who owns the vehicle is a long standing customer, friend, relative etc. His technical knowledge is very good especially as it is centered around one particular brand. Parts are cheap and his work is quality. Prices are very reasonable. The bottom line is that in my humble opinion if you have a Nissan he is the guy to go to for major repairs. Not knowing him much those days I have left my vehicle with all the documents and there has never been a scratch or anything out of place. Cons. As with any mechanic going to him has its slight flaws which if not pointed out I do not think would be a complete account of him. When you are good you will be stuck with so much of work sometimes more than you can handle. This is one disadvantage going to him. That is at one point of time he will be having so much of work. So you will have to give him two to three days maybe even a week to repair your vehicle unless it is a minor issue. As I live in Mount Lavinia it is quite a hassle to go to Peliyagoda to fix every minor issue. So my next question is are there any good garages that members could recommend me from the Mount Lavinia area to fix maybe minor issues that may crop up during the day to day running of a vehicle? 2. Headlight Cleaning March Beatles are notorious for discoloration of their headlights. There was also water leaking into one of my headlights. Found a great place to do headlight cleaning and re-beading of headlights. Randunu Head Light Cleaning - No.57/B, Papiliyana Road, Nadimala, Dehiwala. Contact Nos. 0776 273 477, 0714 255 322.
  9. Nice komi. I did not know you were black. Had one big ball ( maybe the smaller one is hidden behind it), and that the bigger ball was nicknamed spalding.
  10. Well what a story asankabs you would be a good movie director directing movies with rivoting plots no one can foresee . I did not see that explanation coming. Anyhow just to improve my knowledge I have a particuar circumstance which I would like to be clarified. Thanks beforehand for any assistance. One of my friends (quite a knowledgeable chap into automobiles according to my honest opinion) have aways told me that I must try to never get the petrol low indicator light on as it is not good for the petrol pump. He says that when the light comes on/ when your running on very low fuel levels then the Petrol pump does not get lubricated as a whole with Petrol. His view is that through time if you have a practice on running your vehicle on very low fuel the lubrication that the Petrol Pump needs would not happen reducing the life span of a petrol pump as the components of the Petrol Pump will wear off faster.
  11. Dunlop 195/65/15 (Manufactured in Japan) Rs.16915/= @ M*torhead.lk.
  12. Well March AK12 has its pros and cons. I own one. Still thinking of going for a hybrid. Apparently one bugger in Japan clocked 300Km/h on a Prius .
  13. Amen to being the best pool in the country.
  14. Lion Pub was really good those days. The prices there have gone up still the Hot Butter Cuttle Fish was to die for those days. There was a place called Hello Machang on top of the no limit building in Mount Lavinia. You have to take your own booze. No corkage. Was a great place until they closed. Now we normally visit goodies kitchen on Templars Road. Also Mount Restaurant and Pub was a great place about 2 years ago (Had a great Cheese Omlette, the best I have had up to date), but due to constant management changes the standard has dropped drastically. Never tried the The boat Haüs. Will check it out definitely.
  15. Thanks Watchman, good to know. The Section says [196(5)] shall so I do not know whether there is any discretion on the letter of the law. In my personal opinion it is time for a whole revamp of this piece of legislation rather than intermittently bringing in amendments. Also I think this practice of bringing in regulations through gazette should not be done. This piece of legislation should be easily accessible and understandable by any person which is in my opinion not the case now.
  16. Well machang they seemto be closing all the joints in dehiwela/mount? Any good drinking places?
  17. According to Section 196 as amended by the 2009 Act to wit Section 196(5) proviso you can still produce the valid emission certificate to the Court etc. So I guess you could tell the police officer (there should be two for corroboration purposes) that if he wants to proceed that you will submit the emission certificate in court. As for the certificate of fitness in this instance I do not think even GOD knows what it is. I normally take my emission certificate in my car. I did it through the Laughs subsidiary where on the face of the emission certificate it states clearly to carry it in the vehicle at all times. When you need to get the revenue licence you will have to produce the original emission certificate which will be returned. To add to what I have said also the emission certificate is an important document which could help to find the genuine mileage of a vehicle. Still I don't see the point in taking the emission certificate around in the vehicle when it is already checked by the authorities and the revenue licence issued on it.
  18. Well my question is how does one know when to change the airbags if the airbags have expiry dates?
  19. What is the price of the Pirelli tyres your interested in? Where to buy michelin tyres in Sri Lanka? The quality of pirelli tyres might be very high, still for one pirelli tyre you might be able to buy two dunlop tyres(indonesian) from say S.K. Munasinghe.
  20. Having thoughts of changing my forum name to "Madaaviya Jack" .
  21. Well did you wash your engine bay with the high pressure hose? Also what is the vehicle and a few more details would be good to find a proper solution.
  22. Well the previous owner of my vehicle had a key bolted to the rear buffer from the inside. We could not find it the time of sale. So the first thing I had to do was locate the key. It was quite the experience. Come to think of it we really know how to hide things.
