  1. Nope, I never said to cover up and sell.Read my comment again. Chinese battery pack or Cell repair is also an effort to fix it although the success is highly dubious and you don't wont to go through the same hell twice if the problem comes back in a short time. But the people who are doing Cell repair claim it to be a "proper" repair.? Typical Toyota owner mentality is to resell for more than the price the car was bought years ago, So I doubt any of them would be honest to mention the Issue to a new buyer or reduce half a million from the resale price, which he had saved on petrol.
  2. No advice, just the 3 options based on different SL driver requirements since there was no reply posted for 2 days.? So what is your "professional IESL mechanical Engineer" advice? By the way, I am curious why doesn't even the agent give the Full warranty(at least 100,000km or 5 years ) if the repair is so successful. All the money saved on Petrol to be spent on a battery in the end..
  3. you can search in the forum for details. Some are saying the Li-ion batteries used in newer hybrid cars do not depreciate like in older ones with Ni-MH. But the truth is different as seen by that even newer hybrid batteries having issues under SL conditions. The 100% safe solution is to change with Original Toyota Battery(No worries for some more years if you plan to keep it) But if you plan to sell the car soon you can go for a cheaper Chinese Complete battery or even Cell repair. In both case there is no guarantee how long you have until the problems come again.
  4. at least both should have the Toyota Engine 1KR.
  5. what a beauty! I think the most reliable, fun and easy to fix vehicles are from the 90s before car makers overloaded their models with Electronics and isolated the driver from the machine.( speaking from my experience with Beemers, but assume same applies to JDMs like Civic,Skyline, and LC )
  6. usually the metal feathers inside pump get worn out by dust, metal residue. Not repairable in SL I think.
  7. rack issues give strange jittering, noise, tightness normally when turning to one side, not both at same time. If its both sides maybe pump is worn out and has lost some pressure?
  8. you always have eBay..
  9. I doubt if he has scientific facts to prove that engines with higher compression wear out faster in general. In that sense diesels should wear out sooner than petrols. Its all about build materials and design. However you need to be extra carefull with the oil system and air-system in a Turbocharged engine. For example a bad Air filter(rat damage) could let sand particles pass through and damage the Turbo and send metal parts into your engine. It could also damage the Oil seals, which is why Oil and filter changes need to be followed strictly. Usually they start leaking in the range of 100k-150k kms , reason for Turbo failures is mostly not a weakness in the Turbo-design itself, but other issues like oil sludge, oil filter, Air system etc.
  10. try Subasinghe Motors 0112449604

  12. As a non-thel higanna, I would go for the Brand new non-hybrid. Hassle free motoring for the next 5 years, and no need to explain Hybrid battery status when selling it. Also both have funny shapes, but the CHR gives more ground clearance.
  13. CO2 reduction is a challenge for petrol engines. Diesels are more efficient and fulfill CO2 targets easier. But Particle Matter, Nox treatment is challenging for Euro4 and upwards diesels(now EU countries are discussing to ban <Euro6 from City limits). So none of the the TATA,Leyland diesel vehicles should be allowed to import, when implementing Euro4 strictly as in European countries. They have no exhaust gas treatment components like Lamda,DPF,DeNOX,SOC which you find in European Buses and Trucks since 10-15 years.
  14. LOL, we are all so Stranded by this self proclaimed TV expert(sattharakaraya?) who doesn't even write Standard correctly when he is giving expert opinions about Standards to others without any scientific facts or Automotive experience. What are your educational or professional qualifications in the Automotive field that you are able to say Fuel quality is not important to fulfil emission standards? Please post some links or excerpts from Journals to back your new "Discovery".
  15. seriously dude, How can engine emission "comply" with Euro 4 fuel? Even a makabass knows how fuel quality affects emissions, and that higher fuel quality is needed to achieve higher emissions standards even with a brand new engine. If you write some random theory that comes to your mind ,please provide resources, maybe based on your experience regarding Engine and Emissions design and testing(I doubt if you have any).
  16. why not? you should be worried about pumping lower quality fuel until now.
  17. Maybe Hon.Admin should create an award for the most laughed at content?
  18. Isn"t everyone on TV like that these days??
  19. OOPS! Tax will be about 5million, one would rather go for a 1.2L SUV like the CHR or 3008 with 4 million Tax. The hybrid boom is OVER, Atkinson-cycle hybrids with larger than 1.0L capacity are Dead now like the Diesels. Lets see how the government reacts when the Fuel-cell vehicles start coming out next.
  20. what means AM*? Please be more specific and quote some sources. About fuel consumption,it really depends on the duration of time spent on idling. Fresh-Starting an engine requires more fuel than even running at highest RPM, so if you let it just idle for a few minutes it could be better for the environment and resources.
  21. what about putting it apart and sending in boxes?
  22. how about the price, seems quite well built with more bells and whistles compared to the other 2 in your list.
  23. do you want a German or Japanese engine control system? If its German, go for the 1L Civic which is based on the ultimate 2L 320BHP civic Type-R 2015 Europe model .
  24. if you need to survive a university course in Design and Development of vehicles, you need a good background in Maths (Linear algebra, Differential Equations, Derivative and Intergrals etc.) and Physics(Electronics, Thermo dynamics etc) and also C/C++ programming.
  25. the diesel will give you 15 kms per litre, but with age it is more likely to develop issues like oil leaks, oil consumption,DPF,Turbo leaks like any other Jap vehicle.Control arms in the suspension need to be replaced every 3-5 years of normal use for both versions, but they save the shock absorbers. it all depends on how the previous owner has maintained and used it.
