gayanath replied to shadowfax99's question in Car Buying Information
Corolla 141 will be the best suitable car for your usage pattern. (Hope "second car" means selling first car and buying another one) -

60% of Registered Vehicles not in Running Condition: DMT
gayanath replied to gayanath's topic in General Automotive
Agreed.... However, we lost 10 lives (majority is younger's) per day on roads + considerable numbers of disables. I guess, unsafe vehicles (+ unsafe practices like overloading, projections, etc.) responsible for at-least 40% out of them and remained due to nonsense driving, negligence, and other courses. So, its high time to act..... -
The sad truth ............ What should be done ?? Quote: Sixty per cent of the total vehicles registered at the Department of Motor Traffic (DMT) is not in good running condition, DMT Assistant Commissioner J.A.S. Jayaweera said. Speaking at the media briefing during the ‘Fifth National Accident Prevention Week’ Mr Jayaweera said 8.1 million vehicles were registered with the Department. “4.6 million Motorcycles and 1.1 million three-wheelers were registered at the Department. 80% of the total registrations were personal vehicles,” he said. Fifty per cent of the registered vehicles which not in good running condition were categorised under motorcycles and three-wheelers. Though the vehicle registrations reached 8.1 million, there is no sufficient road capacity in the country. At present, the road capacity is 112,000 km. http://www.dailymirror.lk/breaking_news/60-of-registered-vehicles-not-in-running-condition-DMT/108-191503 .......... unQuote.

Yes. It's essential. When you handover number plates (replacement due to province change, etc,) you should return the sticker as well. New sticker is having a proximity sensor as well.

vitz 2019 Resale ability of Toyta Vitz 2019 in about 4 years time
gayanath replied to Ranavir's question in Car Buying Information
Cars having low price tags (lets say below 3.5 million or so) depreciating slowly because there are prospective buyers (those who are willing to buy their first or second car). Eg: Still some Indian Alto's could sell with no or little depreciation Higher the price higher the depreciation (because of less demand) - If, one could invest little bit higher, why he/she needs to buy a used one rather than going for a new car. -
GP-5 warnning indicaters
gayanath replied to manjuladharmarathne's question in Car Buying Information
Did you, Replaced your 12V battery recently? When ? Service the car recently with Engine bay washing ? And, are you the first owner? Have you check any error codes ( if any)? Having any previous issues ? Do you know the condition of your hybrid battery? -
I had seat covers for my very first car (cost around Rs. 22,000) but never done again because I could clean seats at the cost of Rs.7,500 (once every three years more than enough - even having kids) It's cost effective rather than using seat covers + Feel the car I'm a little lazy person to clean the car regularly so, adding vinyl carpet (3M coil type - but not 3M ? - buying 8 x 4 sheets from Arpico and cut according to the car shape as necessary) first and then putting original carpet on top of that. Just because of the wire mesh characteristics of bottom one, you cannot see any sand or dust even there will be kilos of loads ??. Top one (original carpets) may be cleaning once in two weeks (ගත්ත එලියට ගැසුව දැම්ම) but below one may be once or twice a year (even its not easy to remove as well). Everyone think my car is clean and tidy,.......?? ** Clamping the driver's carpet to the safety locks is a important.

I used Wurth one at once for my Vitz but nothing happened. My personal impression is, It's just a mind game. When you think it's working you will feel a difference, otherwise not. No measurable results. And.... I have this question. Petrol itself a good solvent and its going through the injectors having pressurized (and atomized at the end). Do adding 0.5% solvent to petrol will remove something which cannot be removed by pressurized (and atomized) petrol? @iRage, any comments?

Addressing the traffic problem in Sri Lanka.
gayanath replied to Pericles's topic in General Automotive
If public transport only matters, two groups (for private sector) also could be a solution Private Group 1 - 8:00 to 5:00 Group 2 - 9:00 to 6:00 Public - 8:30 to 4:30 As a person who's office starting at 7:30 am (we normally at office around 7:00 am), I prefer early starting, early finishing and enjoying relax evening -
Addressing the traffic problem in Sri Lanka.

Quote :................ The report recommends that public sector offices be opened at 9.00 a.m. and close at 4.45 p.m. with the private sector offices to be opened at 9.45 a.m. and to close at 6.45 p.m. ................... unquote. If school times remained unchanged, 1. Parents who doping them to school have to stay extra time waiting before starting office. 2. School buses/vans for all children will be the solution, but again there will be social issues as you mentioned. -
Below two examples are Asia Pacific schedules (not JDM) Toyota Yaris (Non-hybrid) - 80,000 km / 4 years Prius C (Hybrid) - 120,000 km / 6 years Note: No additional maintenance recommended for Severe conditions (with related to Fuel filter) in both cases

Don't worry about fuel filter brand until you use a reputed one. Toyota, VIC could be used without any issue. For your case, filter matters only if you are going beyond car manufacture recommended intervals for the oil. Wast of money. No good reason to use 95 over 92 so far. 92 is cost effective as well as suitable for your engine. Do not let any bullshit to touch your engine rather than replacing oil and oil filter until you clocked 100,000 km (at-least 80,000 km). Your car is a daily long range runner so risk of carbon deposit is very low compared to cars running 4 -5 kilometres per day. I haven't your service schedule but Toyota normally recommending 100,000 - 120,000 km ( or 5 - 6 years) intervals for fuel filter replacement. So no point of doing it that much early.

I too have never had an Allion or Premio even though drive one or two friend's cars. True.... See this shared on a FB group. This is from Nuwaraeliya to Katharagama (However, don't know whether return trip included bec, one way is around 150 km) Anyway, below two images are from my very close friend. His car is NZT260 (2014/03 - 1.5 L). Both are outstation trips with 2 + 2 kids onboard. This is from Kadawatha to Hotel RIO and back via Southern Expressway. And this is from Kadawatha to Anuradhapura, Matale and back to Kadawatha.
-
I generally fill 32 - 33 on outstation but 30 for Colombo. (not for premio) Bec, majority of outstation roads are far better than Colombo roads.

Don't take just the meaning of my statement like a grade 5 scholarship guy ......? (තරහින් නෙමෙයි කිව්වේ ...... ?) What I mean by used car is the car imported to the country as used cars (reconditioned status) where we have no agent responsible for them. Eg: I imported my car 0 millage - brand new in condition but reconditioned in status - Just because it didn't came through the agents, no one take care of it. And its not rational to expect same care from the agent as well, bec we are the culprits not the agent - So, if anything fails premature, I have no option other than going for cheap fix (Probably I may not go for a cheap fix but 95% will do it. That's the reality).
-
Go for Toyota 0W20 synthetic which cost around Rs. 6,500 per 4 L can. Replace at 10,000 km. (if you ask from the counter, they will definitely tell you to replace 5,000 km , bla... bla... but not necessary) I am using same for my Aqua and replacing around 8,000 - 9,000 km because I'm doing that around 6 - 7 months.
-
Ha ... ha.... Now you are confusing us my friend...... 2,500 km per month (100 km per day) is not a short run. (You mentioned you are doing 5,000 km for two months. Isn't it?). Actually, synthetic oils are manufactured for the people like you because you are doing 15,000 km for 6 months (or 30,000 km for one year). Fuel saving is a different aspect (an additional advantage sometimes but not in every time).

Reply is already above. Quote: * BTW, actually there are some parameters giving some indications, but those service guy's (who scan your car in SL) don't know about them.? ..unquote. So, 99% scans will not add value for you because they don't know how to interpret results. They will tell you no issue in your car until you get a error code. Theoretically and technically, yes you are correct and 100% agreed with you..... But we should know the context where we are. We are in SL. Cost matters for everyone except few people. 1. 90% of us repair cars with used parts or cheap spares. Manufactures not recommending it but we are doing. 2. 95% garages are technically not suitable to do repairs due to not availability of qualified persons and tools and equipment. Even you have no guarantee that your brake system (which is extremely critical safety system) repaired correctly and durably by the bassunnahe (until you are a guy having the knowledge). But it's happening here... 3. See how many heavy vehicles (ex: sand trucks) running on the road without signal lights, brake lights, and zero treads on tires. Above should not be excuses in safe world but, withing the context we are living, we should be practical as well. If we are living in US, EU or Japan we never buy used cars. Isn't it. (even we do not have warranty, no responsible agent for our cars because we purchased them as reconditioned) For this particular as well as specific case (I mean HV battery fault), we have not yet identified any safety issue or technical issue by running with the fault. All safety systems as well as all other systems are working well. And car will not die by 10km as @HaeylM suggested. Anyway, this not means you should not repair the or replace HV battery. Definitely you should do the repair, but you will never being stranded on the side of the road. @HaeylM

Regarding the case of @thusharak340, I don't think he has Toyota warranty because Passo is a JDM which is not importing by TL. Probably he may have another warranty like Sterling or something.
-
Now,... this is from practical knowledge.... There is a thumb rule... "increasing the sump capacity increasing the replacement interval and vise versa". Your car oil capacity is 3 L (1KR-FE engine). Which is bit small quantity compared to bit larger engines. So I suggest you to replace Mobil 1 Annual Protection 0W20 at 15,000 km for the first time and see the condition rather going for 20,000 km. Decide next interval based on the results.
-
To the point very clearly...... Above is from your cars "Owners Manual" (Toyota Passo 2017 - March onward) Clearly the recommended oil grade is 0W20, So use 1. Toyota 0W20 (It's a synthetic oil) for 10,000 km or 2. Use any reputed brand 0W20 Synthetic oil for 10,000 km replacement intervel Subjected to you are using the car 2,500 km per month. ** No harm of using XW30 if 0W20 is not available so don't worry about previous usage of 10W30.
-
Please let me know your car model. Is it Toyota Vitz 1000 cc? Then what is the manufacturing year?
-
If manufacture recommended best suitable oil is 0W20, then why you would not recommends?
