car prices are quite low now due to the recession and for example an Audi A4 was £ 3995 last weekend (2 day sale) and cars such as 2005 March can be bought for £ 4500,2005 Honda Accord around £4500 jadey checkout Car Craft showrooms if you want to have an idea (larger the car higher the insurance so larger cars are bit cheaper ) anyways my question is this ,how much is the duty for a car imported to SL,for example I import a 2005 March bought for £ 4500 (Rs 730 000 in todays exchange rate) how much will I be paying at the end of it all,is it really worth it? roughly whats the % that I can save by importing than by buying locally in SL?

The book covers the Herald saloon,coupe,estate, spitfire and vitesse I dont think there were any Triumph Vitesse models in Sri Lanka as when they were being manufactured we had the ban on car imports ;-(

nice set of wheels mate,would love to see it when i come there next yeah i know of rimmer brothers there are quite a lot of triumphs running here and have a good classic value as well,just check ebay UK when you have time and tyou will be amazed!,I also saw that the Ford Sidevalve owners club has a shop where they sell brand new parts for all the old Fords (including the pre 1945 models!!!) any shops in colombo still stock triumph parts?? do you get dismantled Triumphs @ Panchikawatte still? if your clutch is not fully gone you can try to re-line it as well, I did have the maintenance manual for the herald and spitfire back home, your more than welcome to photcopy it in case you need it (hopefully its still there)

I saw a green Triumph Spitfire (5 sri) at the autolanka get together and guessing its supras car as he has a Triumph emblem in his profile,must say its a real classic! How long have you had this motor? and where do you buy parts for Triumphs in Sri Lanka as far as I know know one stocks Triumph parts anymore ,long time back Browns were the agents

machan Jayanath if you had done 142k on that Maruti these things are to be expected as Marutis are flimsy cars (no offence intended just my observation),what is the YOM of ur car? Best bet is to get rid of it and buy a better car,even an older Jap car like the 13-14 Sri Lancer GLX (C11/C12) is a much better car!

Supposing you need spares how do you get them in SL,im not refering to the body parts which can be bought at Panchikawatte but stuff like Pistons,brake master pump (or brake mechanism if its manual)gear box parts,piston rings etc?? are there shops in SL selling them or have u got to buy from abroad?

Does anyone know where I can get AC compressor parts or the whole compressor for an old Mitsubish i Lancer which we have back home in CMB,this is the 1978 model Lancer popularly known as the Tube light model,this is similar to the famous lancer wagons of the 11-13 sri types (there is another AL member who did have the same car ,11 sri one i think) our lancer had the original compressor working really well till last month when it started leaking and the AC guy found that there was a seal which was broken and he says cant buy that seal now as its an old type of compressor hence had to buy a 2nd hand compressor also any idea if this compressor is used in the Lancer Box ? if you guys know any place where i can get this and the average price for it ,please let me know

Hi your post is not clear as to what ou want from others in the forum are you looking to buy it? whats the price that the owner is asking for ? are the papers clean???,im sure you could get an engine in delkanda but better ask the resident Autolanka members coz they will know better on availability ,also if you sswap the engine for soemthing big then u also need to change the gearbox and it can get a bit messy,also is the engine totally unrepairable?

what types (or rather models) of Ford do you like my dad has had a Ford Prefect E93 (1949-50 Model as his 1st car) When I was in School I had a major liking towards the Cortina's (esp the Coke bottle model) also long time back was crazy over the Escorts (probably influenced by the ads in the back issues Readers Digest mags at home) but sadly the only Ford I have ever driven is a 2008 Ford Focus which was given by my driving school to go for the driving test here in the UK

Machan why dont you post pics of your collection including the rotting ones or alteast list the model and year of the whole collection. btw,one popluar garage guy in thalakotuwa gardens bought a good Pakcard limo 4-5 years back and its still siting in his garage awaiting restoration! also David Todd has beautifull triumph Mayflower (sissy name for a car in my view!) and that car is in regular use too!

no mate coz unfortunately im currently i live in england but have an avid interest in the SL motoring scene and visit SL each year C I Gunasekera as in the famous cricketer? wow what a collection but sad that they are collecting dust
