  1. I noticed that the forum rating system has gone from a "Vote Up/Down" system to a "like this" model.. It's a shame.. we cant votedown jack-a$$es anymore...
  2. There are enough vezal threads. You can search. You dont need to open a new one for "updates" http://forum.autolanka.com/topic/15808-how-to-search-on-autolanka/
  3. either a die hard fan or a disgruntled fan... the comments section is indeed entertaining
  4. Where was Ukkung this weekend?
  5. I take it that the OP is still a student? So, one life lesson; you may think that your event is 'the thing' because you too deep into it in emotional and effort. And you may have a lot of other challenges that make organizing such an event a mamoth task. But at the same time this type of event relies a lot on the car owners and the car fans commitments. But to the common car fan or a car owner it's a simple case of choosing either event A or B. And given the 'excitement' surrounding the katu drags you guys loose. It would certainly be in YOUR best interest too to change the event date. We genuinely wish you all the best cos we know how hard it is to organize events as school-kids!
  6. Though a bit frustrated by it, I really do admire the licensing structure in Singapore. Slow day at work, so lemme give a quick summary. Theory Lessons: 1- 4 theory lessons. It's not just theory on how to ride, every class start and ends with CCTV footage of gruesome accidents caused because people didnt follow what was in the lesson. 2- assessment by driving school 3- Traffic Police Theory Test (RMV equivalent) 95% pass mark. Practical Lessons; Lesson 1a: pre-ride check, starting bike, picking up a dropped bike. Lesson 1b: Clutch release and brake control. Traveling on Gear 1 and 2 Lesson 1c: Starting and stopping smothly and going upto G3,4,5. Lesson 2: Lane change (n blind spor check) Lesson 3: Junctions Lesson 4: Stopping up a incline n moving off Lesson 4: S course (the "8" as we clal it and its timed) Lesson 5: Balancing on a narrow plank n zig-zac through traffic cones (also times) Lesson 6: Emergency Stop (on a wet surface) Lesson 7: Evaluation Lesson 8: Road test (first time you ride out of the riding school, still escorted by instructors) Lesson 9: U turn Each 90 minute 'lesson' is also a test. If the instructor is not satisfied that you've mastered the lesson, you have to repeat it. I failed the E-brake twice, not cos i didn't stop in time, but once because i didn't have correct 'body posture' and once because my stopping was too abrupt. The Traffic Police (RMV equivalent) Test: These tests are held as batches with testers standing at the various points of the test track. Each mistake such as a wobble, failure to signal or check a blind spot, incorrect lane change, failure to stop at a stop sign etc carry demerit points, and the points are tallied at the end to see if you're below the fail mark. And things like the bike/foot touching a kurb is an immediate failure. Same goes for keeping your right foot on the ground or stopping in a junction box. In a single session only about 20-30% pass. And i've seen people who were attempting their 6th TP test. And all of the above takes about 6 months minimum. And after all this too, you can ride bikes only upto 200cc. You wait/ride another year, and do some more similar (not as many) classes to get a license upto 400cc, and then another year and some more tests later you can ride any bike. The good thing is that any impatient rich kid wont end up on a R1. A rider who comes out of this system has a much greater level of discipline and riding maturity, than a idiot who can do a "8" and thinks himself to be Rossi.
  7. Btw anyone following Formula E. Not as fast or happening as F1, in fact its like watching F1 with the sound muted There's been one race so far and a spectacular ending to the race with P1 and P2 colliding on the last lap sending Nick Hidfeld flipping through the air..
  8. Riding discipline is a concept completely alien to our riding schools and even testers. I dont know about how it is now, but when I was getting my driving license, the only skill you needed was to do a '8' and ride a chally behind the instructor's van (which he's also assessing). Then you see choo kollas riding HC bikes in cargo shorts and flip flops being all 'pora' like it's their father's road, you can see where all the bad rep for HC bikes comes from.
  9. If you did search, you would have sound many othe rmercedes related threads. Why didnt you post on one of those. You're merely adding onto the problem of redundant threads that's being a problem for you too.
  10. His son Ravindra handles the workshop now. Someone shared the number on the forum earlier. Please search.
  11. So it's ok for YOU to get a turbo-charged car and use it for the "pure thrill", but if VVTi, buys it he has to prove himself by racing it?
  12. leaving my distaste for KK aside, that was a very nice shoot. There's a very happy-go-lucky vibe in the whole shoot.
  13. Simple.. if your neighbor's Vezel doesnt have any chrome grill, then the Chinese one would be good. But if he has the Chinese one you HAVE to get the original one. Same story with skid plate. But if your neighbor has both an original chrome grill and a skid plate you should sell yours and get a new vezel which is unregistered. And since yours is newer, you can save money by not buying the grill and skid plate. All the best!
  14. My first bet is a fuel pump issue that Davy's describing. My 2nd bet is a busted set of valves that arent sitting right. Hence till the engine heats up a bit (and the valve rods expand), there isnt enough compression building up for it to run on its own.
  15. OK, since the OP needs to be spoonfed every bit of info here goes; it's not about a "thread" existing, but the fact that the "information" exists. And it maybe the first time you're asking the question so it may be justifuable to you, but to the people who you expect to reply would have said what they have to say on the other thread. Do you want them to type it all out for YOUR convenience? The world doesn't revolve around you, you know! And don't bitch about others having high post counts. Not all of those came from bitching about people like you. Some of them DID have valuable advise, but it wasnt for YOUR question, so it doesnt count in your books right? I do agree, a GoPro would be best, but it's a lot of money. I think the current lineup is around the USD400.00 mark. My 'chinese' action camera which was about Rs.8000 has lasted me a while (not used continuously like a dash cam would be used though). And from what I hear dash cams will be a lot cheaper than action cams cos they dont have all the added demands of being waterproof, shock-proof and what not.
  16. That's a lot of money to have in hand and not know what to spend on. You should go home, talk to your loved ones and discuss what you NEED. Not just set your budget at 5-7 million because Mr Perera next door bought a 4-6million car
  17. There have been a lot of threads on car stereos and Header Units. Why dont you use one of those threads to ask your question.
  18. I'm with Davy on this. After being called a newbie rapist many many times, I've stoped being a bitch about the jacka$$ed who who open a new thread whenever they want. Just look at the current top threads.. 1. In the last 2 weeks, i lost count on the number of threads about the budget's effect on cars. 2. Which car to buy; new car or used car? 3. Car stereo review 4. Dash cam (and this guy SAW the tread and STILL decided to open a new one) It's unfair to expect the mods to be on the ball about this and merge threads as soon as there's a redundancy. Hence I believe WE as members should not encourage such redundent threads by responding to them, but instead should direct the OP to the existing thread and END the redundant thread. Come on guys, let's all help make the forum cleaner and easier for everyone.
  19. See, the reason you seem to not want a 2nd hand Jap car is cos you dont want to feed the greedy car owners. I agree with your principle, but you must also look at it objectively. Are you willing to pass out on a better quality car just to spite a greedy seller? I haven't been in touch with the car market, but I'm guessing 2.0mil can get you a corolla 110 as opposed to a new Alto. Leave the vehicle's age aside, I feel you'll get a better quality car with the 15 year old Corolla than the brand new alto. It's bigger, more comfortable and will hold it's value much better than the new alto. (new cars depreciate MUCH faster than older ones).
  20. One phone in a box (even if you claim it's used) can come off as personal use. Two is a stretch, but still might fly with some sob-story, but when you bring in 5 it's fairly obvious you're bringing it for non-personal use. So it's not unreasonable for the customs to ask your friend to pay up taxes.
  21. geez.. cant u use one of the exisiting threads to post this!
  22. I dont know why everyone is bunching their panties over tax. It's not something you can foresee or control. Just let it sink in that tax has changed see what money you have, see what you can afford and pull the trigger. There are greater problems in this country to be sad about about, and more joyful things/people to in our lives to be happy about. I can't afford to buy a decent car based on my income (without going into debt), and things wont change anytime soon. So I've let that reality sink in, and I'm a happier person now. << flies away singing kumbayaa>>
  23. I'm pretty much on Don' You're in my boat too. The only reason i upgrade is cos i'm entitled to a new phone when i re-contract with my telco. Since I my first smartphone (also a nexus) to my S3 and now a S5, i noticed that My usage hasnt become as become as 'advanced' as the technology has. Besides whatsapp, 9gag, maps and the occasional googling, I've hardly done that demand's the phone's technology. But I do know people who really 'need' the latest phone because else 'they can't enjoy the what's out there'.
  24. I agree with Don on this, that unproven allegations (which most of them are) dont help. If you can say, "XYZ car sale sold me This Prius saying it's grade 5, here's the auction sheet they showed me, but here's the real one I got from Japan" (with simple photos as proof) I dont think there's anything wrong. Same goes for car owbers who find their cars for sale within weeks with the mileage halved. Then again, it's upto MADZ to decide if he's ok with it, but either-way we all said "i agree" to the terms n conditions stating that we're responsible for the sh!t we say and not the forum owner.
  25. I'm not sure about 'servicable' but you can certainly buy a new/extra battery. When I was using a S3 and it was nearing 2 years I bought a battery off ebay and it solved the issue to a great extent.. I think over time the junk on your phone also cause the phone to drain more juice. It won't give you a day 1 phone, but if you flash your phone and replace the battery I think it helps a great extent.
