  1. NPP i have to agree with you. even i foresaw this. but there's a saying that sinhalese forget anything in 2 weeks. so i hope we actually do sorry to go racial but i'm not very fond of the tamils here. they are all pro ltte cos they got eelam symbols and statements all over their msns and fbs. i dont hate ltte supporters cos even though we consider them as bad people, i think they are just normal like us its just what they do for a living that makes them bad. but if they want to be friends with us they should never bring up this subject in normal conversation. but they do. there's this one bell*nd who cant stop bragging about their so called achievments. i mean wtf? i dont ever go "hahaha we blew off Mr. selvans arse" i always treat them like my fellow countrymen. my point is the whole eelam likes to brag about what they've done. and its especially annoying when they've done nothing. so if the tamils who support ltte showed a little modesty i'm sure the sinhalese would recieve them with open arms.
  2. well for those who wondered what i drive its a 2001 vitz RS 1.5 and yes its wrx blue cos thats nearly the only colour it ever came in, apart from the silver one and the black one i spotted among handful of RS badged versions that roam the roads in sl. i was completely blown away when i got it when i was 17 cos i was quite a unaware of the social issues of driving a car thats the colour of a wrx but can only keep up with vtec civics. and to make it worse i even added neons 3 years back. luckily i have the option of switching them off anyways i believe i have "some" authority to make that noise comment cos even though i'm stuck with a 4 pot it makes an intruiging deep bass burble in the mid range. and couple that with the high pitched vvti whine at high rpms people have often mistaken my car for a superbike. and that includes my mom. rumour has it that TRD had an upper hand designing an RS version of the vitz. and my guess is they've sure done their part right. and the absolute best thing is its all quiet below 2500rpm where i usually live. anybody who says otherwise i'll give you guys a ride next time i'm in sl. i think what we should be doing is dropping the elc*rdo and chinese fart cannons and looking for real japanese exhausts that are quiet at low revs and not very shouty as to ruin someones breakfast at the top end. or stick with your original cos no car comes out with a really loud exhaust nowadays, well at least at low revs. as for the size comment to my knowledge defenders are usually known for their "very gifted" drivers. but its not so in the case of 300zx. so you guys can make your choice speaking of girls who got turned off by our craze i got my fair share. i used to properly put off any girl that ever came close when i first started driving. and the worse bit was driving a hatchback isnt considered very manly in sl. and it didnt help by the fact that i was giving them the impression that i'm a street racer. anyways what i've learned is that they are ready to show that they are interested in cars upto a certain extent for your pleasure. but they are only ready to hear so much about it. still, i always enjoyed watching them knocking themselves out trying to watch top gear just to please us while trying to figure out what oversteer and understeer is.
  3. xXx i think you got my point. but its not going to be as smooth as that. there will be people waiting to object. people who actually helped this government win.
  4. i think the idea here is to have a very subtle car cos even clarkson once mentioned the flashiness of your car is inversely proportional to the size of your male organ. and i dont think we have any reason to disagree. (unless of course of course you just painted your civic bright orange) i'd also like to add that surely its not the looks he mentioned but also the noise it makes. i think its better to have a car with an exhaust note thats drowned with the boring 2 stroke tuk tuk noises we here everyday rather than owning one that sounds like a fat bloke farting. don't think i've gone completely mad with this whole subtle thing. i think the car should stay quiet until its caned. only then should it show the world what its made of. kinda like that international businessman in a porno. and speaking of how physically gifted you are, i think its the people who are absolute hooligans on the road that are least gifted. i mean you are not driving more flamboyantly making a lot of noise to get somehwere fast but just to attract attention. so its not that different from owning a flashy car. except you'll also be thought a ret*rd. however with old cars you are quite safe from any of the dangers mentioned above. i mean if you were offered a choice between a db9 and a db5 it'll have to be a db5. one of my mates owns a 1973 volvo p1800 and thats a real bird puller. i havent gone through a single day without going through the internet waiting for a cheap one to turn up. anyways mr. helrazor no offence but i think your lady friends are yet to find the appeal of classic motoring. i think the point here is when us car nuts drive a car thats found very interesting by the rest of the car nut community you are branded a car nut and loathed by normal people. even normal people should love classics. but i suggest you use a very non-car-nut-like car like a nissan n16 for your first few dates just to play it safe i dont want to comment on bikes btw. probably best not to mention it till later in your relationship. p.s. anybody who's looking for a brick to throw at me for my theory on proportionality can i just say i'm driving around in a wrx blue hatchback. and i always say, "its not the size its how you use it"
  5. i dont expect anybody to take top gear seriously. they are better than fifth gear cos they dont bore us to death with facts and figures. just to give you an idea what i'm on about try watching an episode from season one and an episode from season 12 back to back. they've dropped their serious approach and made a program that you can watch with your girlfriend. can you do that with fifth gear? i hate to admit it but being a petrolhead is a bit of a social no no. i know this for a fact cos i've had my share of misfortune being a car nut. what top gear did was make a program that you can watch but still claim you are not a car nut. and i dont think they are very wrong either. ok they do seem to have a soft spot for england. and they hate americans, germans, ok pretty much the whole world. but what they say does make a lot of sense if you live in uk. its just in sl we are too happy with a pink suzuki swifts to care about it. personally i like this approach. there are other ways to talk to about cars than doing boring road tests on them. that is in simple english that all the non-petrolheads can understand. so my advice is for all those kn*bs who's been watching top gear and complaining they dont know anything about cars, please switch to fifth gear. and for those who think clarskon hammond and may are not very smart, its just their onstage personality. thats like hating heath ledger for his role in bat man. clarkson is where he is now is because he didnt start talking about variable geometry turbos and common rail direct injection. because he just spoke plain english that could be understood by any person of any age.
  6. devinda, it might not necessarily be for top gear. cos it sounds a bit too factual for them. those 3 do various other programs for bbc. so it could very well be just a 1 hour documentary. still, i'll try to get a copy of it
  7. ford escort?
  8. belated wishes! hope u had a good one sorry i was recovering from a severe hangover
  9. bravo! i think you've just made the post that you should have made in the first place GTAm. i'll tell you a very interesting story. i'm not very happy about the direction the motor industry is heading towards right now. and unintentionally the british motor industry probably had a good death cos their cars didnt quite live long enough to enjoy the modern diet of electronic everything. i mean when i start my car in the morning its a constant humm as the engine idles higher than usual to bring the engine to its operating temperature faster, i dont hear that occasional cough or bang or other imperfections that suddenly makes everything sound very interesting. its all filtered out by the electronics delievering pure tediousness. i find tediousness is very boring. that's why i dont like the germans. the bmw 3 series has the best handling chassis in its class not because it was designed with the blood sweat and passion of a man with grey hair and a pencil behind his ear. nope definitely not. its designed by a bunch of eggheads with glasses and lots of different coloured pens in their front pockets. nearly every car we buy nowadays is blanketed with a bunch of electronic gizmo and tree hugging devices. and most importanly we dont get cars with carburetors anymore. i know why its better to have fuel injection mated to an ecu. but how do u tune it??? i mean i'm sort of guy who sits down and thinks hmm what it my car had a carburetor instead of efi? think of the hours you can spend under your hood on a sunday afternoon adjusting various screws trying to tune it? i spoke to a mate recently who's just tuned his carburetor to perfection. i was green when we finished that conversation. i mean all i can do under my hood is take out my filter clean it and reoil it and expect that to make the car perform better. whats the fun in that? now this is not why i'm very fond of the modern car. and thats exactly whats wrong with ferrari. i grew up with them admiring the passion and the individuality of every car. but then all of a sudden they started going very GT-R ish. i think it was a case of if you cant beat them join them. i'm not suggesting that the GT-R is a bad car. but its not really a hero's car is it? take classic f1, the drivers were real heros cos they fought with the car and physics not just to win a race but to stay alive. i'm happy to know there's a cushion filled with air popping out in front of me which can provide some protection in a crash. but traction control and electronic diffs? i think thats taking it a bit too far. anyways back to the original topic. when i was young ferrari was the one. astons were dressed up jags and the germans were boring us with their math. the japanese were exploiting that great asian trait of fancy gadgetary. i loved them when i couldnt read time and was crazy over digital wrist watches. and then i suddenly went all swatch. but meanwhile everybody has started going digital. astons started the "look i got no gear lever" flappy paddle nonsense. the germans had killed all the yuppies with boredom and strangely ferrari has let go of beauty and passion and started concentrating on electronics and aerodynamics. i'm left very much confused as just when i was starting to realise the beauty of analogue genius the whole world went electronic. i can't help wonder how the grownups feel about about this change. most of them probably like it. cos its very reliable and not so stressful. but say you still had a breakdown. now, can you fix it yourself??? insert (for example) modern alfas here ok lets talk about beauty now. germans were again being very boring with mainstream shapes, whats the last german car that made you smile? for me its only the 300sl. the brits weren't far off with very conservative designs and only the really passionate builders like sir william lyons gave their cars a bit of flare. the italians were always at the forefront of style and beauty. i like to think the performance cars of italy dont look that great anymore cos they pay a lot of attention to aerodynamics. the 8c is an exception. it doesn't have the speed or the handling to match it looks cos its looks actually kill them both. anyways if you think aerodynamics are killing the looks i'm afraid i got more bad news for you. new legislations state the cars need to be build safer for pedestrians. so no more swooping bonnets or windscreens or pointy noses. so nowadays car makers have to stick to strict criteria in designing their cars. hopefully they'll make the best out of it. but still, cars will never look the same again. so i guess that only leaves us with noise. which thankfully we can still enjoy even at a lower volume. hope they dont cap it altogether. anyways i'm not going to engage in a battle to decide which automotive nation is the greatest. but i hope what i said helped you guys understand why motoring isnt the same as it used to be.
  10. from what i hear, once all the areas are captured and the LTTE army is defeated there will be representatives coming from all over the world to our tiny country to find out how we defeated the world most established terrorist organisation. our army is not the most advanced or high tech, nor the strongest or the biggest. but we are quite tactical and what we are plainly using here is brute force. i mean i dont really see the US or the british army being sent on a massive mission which could kill 100s of their own soldiers. they'd rather sit back and wait in their fortifications or fight them with more protective machinery such as aircrafts and other land vehicles and tanks. what i know is we can't afford to lose such expensive equipment cos its too much of a burden on our tiny budget. also the collaboration between the air force and ground forces are not at its best. usually the idea is to weaken the enemy using aircrafts and then letting the ground forces wipe off whats remaining. thats why its mostly brave soldiers on foot that keeps our army moving. but i've heard of more than one occasion where the ground forces were sent in on suicidal missions with no air support or other ground suppot such as rocket artillery providing back up. well most of the time the case is ltte uses civillians and their settlements as shields to avoid such a clean wipe off. so we'd have to send in specially trained personnel like commandoes to start the offensive from inside the enemy terrotiry. i know we can cos there are quite a few "i can give rambo a run for his money" types in the army. either its ignored or overlooked due to strategical reasons beyond my knowledge. but i'd like to bet no other millitary organisation can match out ground forces at any rate. for the training, the skill, the tactics we are absolutely miles ahead. and this what those representatives will want to know. if we had all the equipment a major army would possess we'd be a millitary super power right now. and whats stopping us is our "not so big" economy and mainly other nations. i mean i know for a fact that when we tried to purchase a 3d radar system india objected, either cos then they'd lose the edge they have on possessing the most advanced radar system in the south asia region or because of the ever increasing pressure from tamilnadu. anyways my argument is watching all these victories in low quality youtube videos on my tiny screen i couldnt help wonder if this is actually good news or bad news. dont take me wrong. im not trying to be a killjoy. but im predicting a massive (when i say massive i mean massive) political turmoil occuring within the next 5 or so years all thanks to these series of events. i'm not being biased to any side here. but i'm sure these wise men will be able to guess what it is. i'll give you guys a hint. its going to involve only one political party.
  11. yep the dash board does tend to crack within a years use in sl. the gloss finish around the vents are quite poor quality as well. if you are not very careful when cleaning the interior u can easily scrath it clean off the plastic. i just did some quick research on the web and i found out there was actually manual version of the excimo. and all manual versions came with the 2.0 engine apparently. the s touring was however available with both 2.0 and 2.5 engines. if i'm going to buy one myself it would be a manual s touring cos the wheels are easier to clean on them
  12. of course not. its definitely a 240 cos there was not e260
  13. whoever did it has to be a brain surgeon. how can you replace the engine of a car with such advanced electronics and piggyback them so everything still works? amazing!
  14. Mr. GTAm, i must admit i failed to grasp your point initially. but i see where you are going with this. but i'm wondering why you always bring up other nations in your quest to brand uk as a bad automotive nation. surely you are not running out of facts about italy that you can against italians are you? anyways lets stick to the subject. actually lets not. one thing that bores brits would be facts and figures. what they want is that x-factor. not a bunch of statistics that explain why something is so good, or as you say, bad. i'm not saying im a brit and i dont want anybody to think i'm a fob who's just discovered uk and worship them for every little piece of string they made. but its uk that showed me what motoring really is, being a gentleman driver, hating boy racers, DIY repair jobs, how to keep ur car running in the winter and how to stop it from breaking down in the summer, christian motoring, boring monotonous motorways, spine tingling back roads, how figures mean nothing, how engineering is boring, and finally, how passion and excitement is the order of the day, where usually italian cars score the top scores. but would i learn all these things had i gone to italy? (actually i was going to) i dont think so. and yes you are right about what u said in your first post. we like them cos we can relate to them. after all they introduced us sri lankans to motoring. why i have to disagree with you is cos i dont really understand how you measure the greatness of a car. again, being very british, i must say its not the facts and figures. its something bigger and very exciting, certainly not something as boring as maths and engineering. i mean who can explain the greatness of the land rover? the land cruiser may have outnumbered it but did it steal the land rover's status as a great car? and that just the reflects the pointlessness of your argument about the 6.9 being a greater car than the 600. a better car? maybe. a great car? hmm... and who here would pick the 6.9 over the 600. wait i know! nobody!!! i just dont know why we are being so pedantic about these 2 cars and more importantly why you are being so pedantic about about this whole italians are better than brits thing and making me write posts as pedantic as yours. in fact your being so technical in your reasoning i could have sworn you are routing for the germans if you didnt have an alfa as ur avatar. whats with all these comparisons anyway? what these people want to hear is a certain nation is good and an explanation of their greatness with words and letters and not figures and statistics. and how did we end up in a battle of 2 nations when all i did was just express my opinion in the 1st place. and did i mention anywhere that italy sucks on my first post? why i'm going to stop here and not argue with you anymore is if i did we'd probably go on till the end of time. and i'm not accusing you of anything but i've noticed you've made it your business to criticise everybody's opinions on this thread. mate just say italy is the greatest and show us your reasoning rather than "stirring a hornets nest". plus i'm the newbie here. so i'll just ignore the rantings of a senior and carry on believing what i want to believe. whereas you can try and find a few loyal followers to help italy overtake uk in this pole. ciao!
  15. see thats the other problem. i can never remember their ranks according to their uniforms no matter how hard i try. so i just end up calling every cop "officer". hope it doent have any effect on my snob factor.
  16. the one at open uni is a chassis dyno whereas the one in german tech is a normal one where u take off the engine and connect it directly to the engine. so no chance of using that. but keep in mind the one at open uni can be used by 2wds only.
  17. C230 is like the base model here cos the 180 and the 200 is considered a bit sluggish. as for diesels i'd always go for BMWs if im in that market. look up roush mustang on youtube. trust me you'll love it. i think you should get one made as well then. i remember this one that turned up in the classifieds a few months back. it was £40000.
  18. oh great! its world war II all over again ok lets start with rolls royce. the germans engineered the phantom. but they also designed and built a rival to that. which was... yes! the maybach. a jumped up c-class (yes i did say c-class) thats utterly vulgar. but why is the rolls royce so cool to behold? its the badge baby! its all about the badge! BMW not only bought the company itself but also the rights for the badge from another firm cos without it, it would have been just an X6 cum-too-early. yes i do agree with you about the LS but does it ooze that british charm adored by millions of non of non brits worldwide??? fake walnut? and where's the lambs wool rugs??? btw as a fellow car nut i cant believe u walked right past the 600 grosser and named the 6.9 as a great merc. now thats a car that truly smashed the rolls. its just a shame you missed out on that point so? the 1st beautiful aston was designed by the italians? ah yes! zagato rebodied the db4 much later in its life. i honestly respect the zagato. its actually on my list of top 10 most beautiful cars. but look at the original db4. i've been oogling it for ages. and when im in that market trust me its not the 007-esque db5 that i'll buy. its the original db4. "Then how do you explain the millions of crap handling Austins and Morris"??? well compared to who??? the italians i suppose. but whats the point of having a beautiful car with beautiful handling that would corrode and fall to bits before it ever gets to a corner? im actually gutted u dragged austins and morris into this. ok they did make some bad handling cars. but what about the austin mini? (yep it was an austin before it was badge engineered by the british leyland whimps) and the morris minor? take some time off and drive one. just to see what i'm talking about. again if u consider urself a big car nut how did u forget lotus? who make the best handling cars in the world? even nissan resorted to seeking advice from them when they were designing the GT-R. now thats got "crap handling" rite? there's no escaping the fact that brits invented badge engineering though. british leyland was the beginning of the end of the british motor industry. Mr. Austin's flawed vision, internal disputes, communism, and most importantly in house rivalry killed off the deal. taking half of the marques with it to the grave. what was left was a few honda engines that they strapped to some badly engineered rovers that were also killed off later by the british aerospace industry. do i blame them? no! after all they invented concorde!!! i'm a big fan of the DS but why did you have to drag the nsu ro80 into this? ok it did win car of the year but do u realise the engines had to be replaced everytime it was tuesday? please find a better car next time if you want to reflect on other nations superiority in motoring. and i sure can show you a car that the germans and the rest of europe hadnt even thought of back then. the range rover! not only it beat non existent off roaders from the rest of europe but also luxury cars as well. is it not a better invention than a people carrier??? and dont even get me started on esprits and jensens. as for noise, its really a losing battle for the brits cos even the rover v8 had american roots. the italians always had the edge there. but germany and france? i dont think so. but i dont see the need to drag in the a and b series. u could very well incur the wrath of many mini fans here. but just for the record i compared noise made by the mini to that of a fiat 600. sorry mate! the 600 was just wheezy as for affordable sports cars i still stand on my opinion of brits being the pioneers. the 356 is not really cheap is it? look at the lotus 7 (aka caterham). nothing can beat it for performance per pound. and jaguars, which seemed to pose the biggest threat to your opinions as you hinted in the last post, always made cars with big performance figures that can still be bought by a middle manager. remember the then superfast e-type v12 cost only 3 times more than the basic mini. ferrari anyone? oh no! only steve mcqueen was rich enough to afford one. as for the abarths and alfas i'd love to see one on the road but sadly they all seem to have seized to exist. "both the Fiat 500 and the 600 predate it and have sold a lot more than the Mini. The 600 Abarth also has a more admirable competition history than the Mini Cooper" fiat a better seller? i almost died from falling off my chair while laughing. 600 abarth has more admirable competition history??? oh mate! you really killed me right there. dont know what you meant by admirable there. but im guessing it means something like "it was meant to take part and supposedly win the monte-carlo rally, but too bad it broke down before it even got out of the factory" finally i must say i know you've been watching a lot of top gear and clarkson vids but you've missed the one where he talks about why brits love open top motoring. but then again you've been watching top gear, and i'd bet anything you love it. and anybody who's stuck to TG might say on that front alone top gear is the best automotive nation. but my opinion is britain is the greatest becos of the massive contribution they've made to motoring. and i challenge anyone to come up with another nation who's made a bigger contribution. and here's my two reasons why YOU believe Italians are superior cos... a) on top gear they say you are not a true petrolhead until you've owned an alfa b ) and they also say ferrari is a scaled down version of god and this is what i really think a) yes! i want to experience that rollercoaster of pain, dissapointment and agony. (i seriously mean it) b ) modern ferraris are just big fiats with all the skyline electronics. I'm sorry mate! but i havent got much faith in the italians anymore. i must admit when i was young my favourite toy was a 1:24 ferrari f40. and to this day its my favourite supercar. born on the same year, i think there's nothing more intoxicating than having one. but after the 355 i've been slowly drifting away from ferrari. they are just 2 boring nowadays. and not very pretty either. i wish they'd build cars with passion not maths. and i really dont care if they break down. the alfa 8c? i think its the most beautiful car in the world. i'm even recommending a 159 over an x-type to my best mate. but sadly even my cousin, who was btw born in rome n now lives in milan, admits that the italian motor industry is run by a bunch of stupid blokes. and trust me this guy knows 2 things. and thats economics and italian cars. so italy might probably end up being another britain. but sadly not before it can make a bigger contribution to motoring finally im sorry if i overdid but even i'm enjoying the freedom of a forum
  19. it seems like fuel economy is the priority here. but i must state all these figures vary from person to person. i get 11km/l from my 1.5 vitz. whereas i used to get only 8-10 in my boy racer days. all these cars mentioned are capable of figures better than 12km/l but there's something really tragic about getting the 1.0 version. that is u have to rev it more to keep up with normal traffic. and its how much u rev that depends from person to person. there's no point revving the beans out of it and hitting the brakes like i used to do when i was young cos u've just caught up with the car in front of u which is moving at a much slower rate. but then again there's no point accelerating so slowly that u hold up the cars behind you. anyways as i said earlier if u rev it more it may actually use a lot more fuel than say a 1.5 would do to progress at the same rate. i'll give you and example. i get 11km/l from my 1.5 and my aunt who uses a k11 1.0 auto which does only 11-12 and she's a very slow driver. why? cos i only rev up to 1500 rpm in normal traffic and she just does a lot more.
  20. what i think you should do is get a D24 engine for it cos i bet the car is already registered as a diesel. and trust me its a really good engine. i think the whole transplant may cost u upto 1-1.5 mil. as for the resale value, well i'd worry about it when its time to sell it. but hey thats just my opinion. if we broke it we can mend it too.
  21. im sorry mate! im still very much annoyed by this incident that happened 2 years back. i was in colombo at around 12am one nite. and this cop on a bike made an illegal turn in front of me and ended up in a position where he had the right of way. but since i had the green light i ignored him and drove on without letting him through, commenting to my cousin how even cops are breaking the law nowadays. and at the next junctions i got flagged down. and this cop was dirty. he was trying to find something wrong with me or the or the car. and i wasnt doing a fake smile or anything (i never do with any kind of cops) and i kept a straight face all the time. he started with the good old "lean in and smell your breath" test. then he was checking out the car to find something thats not road legal. i didnt fret for a moment cos i had not done anything wrong and i was taking it for a routine test. right until the moment he asked me for my license. im sure any of you who got their license after 2005 knows that its probably the worst quality piece of plastic ever. mine has a picture of a faded ghost and the rest of the colour is embedded into my wallet. so when u pull it out it says u cant make out anything on it. and its certainly beyond our control isnt it? and then he started going "this license is unreadable. i'm sending you to courts" and just then that cop on the bike arrived. and i knew what was going on. and i asked him "u asked him to stop me cos i didnt let you through rite?" he said yes looking really smug. so i asked him "are u allowed to make an illegal turn like that especially when its not an emergancy?" and he said "we are the police we can do whatever we like" and the rest of the events were pretty much like what i described in my last post. and my evening was pretty much ruined. anyways then i called up a friend of mine and she arrnanged a meeting with some higher ranking officer at the same police station. and i explained to him that all this was because my license was faded and the court dates were a week after i've left the country. he immediately understood that this was too harsh and its not my fault that my license is faded. so he sent for the cop who took my license in the and to his dissapointment made me collect it straight from him. and then it was my turn to look smug. as for the other cop. well i got way more important things to do than deal with a jerk like that.
  22. ah! i forgot the superchargers from the superior kompressor models can be dropped into the 180. however if i remember correctly there was no e180 kompressor. the base model was the e200 kompressor. yes its got the same engine as a c180 and yes its only got a bigger supercharger to make it worthy of the 200 badge. but like msport said u can go one step further and install a supercharger from a 230. but then how much would that conversion cost? last time i tried importing a supercharger from germany it was already over 600000 rupees before taxes!!! superchargers are very expensive because of their close tolenrances. i suggest u steer clear away from them unless you know what you are doing. as for the whine listen to something like a Roush Mustang at full chat. sounds like a jet.
  23. what a load of rubbish! do they really think that this will make people move out of their 10 rupee/km corollas and buy something that looks like a porta-loo??? i wish someone would bring something really cool that could improve our tastes and make us look good in front of other nations. and that does not include a wannabe g-wiz
  24. i always preferrd a supecharger whine over a turbo whistle. but the merc engines bar the v8s and v12 sounds very wrong. do sound like a hoover and a very old one at that. as for upgrading the power on a supercharger, its somewhat pointless compared to upgrading turbos. cos the efficiency of the supercharger starts dropping quickly as its made to run ever faster. i.e. it'll be sapping more engine power giving out only minute gains. for example an eaton mp45 would work at its best at 7psi. but when u upgrade to smaller pulley it'll start becoming inefficient after 9.5 psi. but that said turning out a smaller pulley for a supercharger is not a particularly hard job. but with such a tiny pressure increase u r only looking at a 5-10% horsepower gain.
  25. hmm maybe thats true for the c class but not sure about the e. but the truth is kompressor models are slightly more econmical than the v6 models and also offer a fair bit of pulling power at low revs compared to them. which means less need for revving the engine to bits thus saving fuel. and a supercharger really is suited more for city driving than a turbo cos the punch is instant and it works right from the idling point, which makes it feels like a diesel compared n/a cars. so maybe the nuts in sl cracked this and started creating a false demand for the basic model. so if i were you i'd use this for my advantage and buy the 240 cheap. and worry about the resale value later. who knows? maybe they'll get some sense knocked into them.
