I see some discussion about HID's along with the auto height adjust headlights. Well with my past experience I would not recommend putting HID's on a halogen housing, reason being 1. I was never able to focus the headlights (minimize light scattering every where) - I went 2 times to Na**ka Ali***ment Center (they had a headlight adjuster device). 2. I notices the reflector was some what faded near the bulb. My guess is due to high heat. (They were Philips HID Kit) If you really looking for upgrade (not my personal experience just research online) 1. I've came across high luminance halogens with same wattage (not 100w ones). Eg - Philips xtreme vision 2. After market LEDs are also a hot topic now right? Seems easier to fix, some with minor effort like drilling a hole in rubber seal at the back. I see discussions about different models with fans and some with heat sinks also led's with regulators to reduce flickering, etc.. -- For Auto height adjust, just a thought. Is this really needed. I would feel safe not to mess with it. Just imagine if the after market height adjuster fails and your light points too low or too high thats again going to cost you for repair and may be switching back to original housing right.

Not sure about prices now but thats somewhat close to 3M christaline CR90 or CR70 for windshield right? Apart from we saying there are so many reviews for 3M christaline right? Also I would feel having a reliable tint might save you from a big mess of glass inside your car..

In my opinion another thing you might think should be SUV's with Body-on-frame with 4WD will consume lot of fuel even if you select 2WD on day-to-day driving (for part time 4WD). From this list I think CHR and Rav4 should have a good re-sale value due to comparatively good fuel consumption. I think FWD of those might be a good option right? KMeeg.

I too agree this. If you look at track only tires they are not noisy and barely has thread. Obviously cannot use on regular road. Tires with deeper grooves are generally good for wet conditions even though some bit noisy. But no where closer to A/T or M/T tires. It would be much better to looks at the specs (numbers on the tire) to decide what tire should be good for the money. With my experience I could not find too much difference between Hankook, Bridgeston, Micheline, etc.. For the money I like Hankook and using it in KE72 for long time. Even in US market Hankook has a fair market. I see Nissan pickups like Frontier in US market comes with Hankook Dyna Pro tires stock. Anyways just wanted to say even though tires like Hankook are cheaper and does not mean they are bad. Also I believe there is nothing like best tire for all conditions. Eg a tire that best perform on dry road doesn't do good on a wet road. Please correct me if i'm wrong. I just told what I think. KMeeg. PS - Additional info; In other markets like in US, people generally select between few aspects other than rim side, width & hieght. 1 Tire category - Summer , Winter, All season, Performance, Touring 2 Millage warranty by manufacturer - eg 40k mile , 50k miles, 70k miles, etc 3 Speed rating - upto 100mph , upto 130mph, upto 160mph, etc 4 Load range - measured by class SL, XL, C, E (many suv ppl looking for A/T tires try to get E tires) 5 Side wall - Black , white, embosed, etc..

I agree that Samsung put lot of features in it but they need to put more attention on optimizing the battery usage and definitely not a fan of the back glass. Not sure S8 come with a better glass at the back but if you check drop test for Note5 on youtube you can see how delicate that back glass is. Bcos of that I had to use a case and whole point of having a shiny glass is wasted. Again on another point on battery optimization needless to say Samsung drop the battery size from Note 4 to Note 5 and resulted having a lesser battery life. I don't see the point of reducing battery size while putting better hardware, specially display. BCos of this i had to use Location Service on Wi-Fi / Mobile mode to help safe battery when i'm not using the phone for navigation. If Samsung doesn't do anything in battery department it might not be good.

Just got iPhone 7 Plus. On Initial testing; 1. Whats good - battery life is quite better than Samsung Note5. 2. Whats bad - Note 5 had far better low light still pic quality than iPhone 7 plus. (Pics were more warm / yellowish at in door low light). I think its because the image sensor. Note 5 has Sony image sensor vs iPhone 7 plus (haven't checked yet). 3. Whats same - Audio quality on Car audio via bluetooth on Youtube - Sound same (Having said I dnt have high-end audio on my car) 4. Wish it had it - a. "Fast charging" - Haven't timed yet but it takes too much time to charge. b. Regular headphone jack - It comes with an adapter, but when you are using Black phone + white adapter + (3rd party) Black color earphones doesn't match at all. Will see if I could do some more testing on weekend.

For those who still enjoy pics of old school body on frame vehicles; 2017 Toyota 4Runner (I think nothing change from 2014) 4.0-liter V-6 engine 270 hp 278 lb-ft 5-speed auto

I test drove in US. Dealer had a huge discount for it $23K + dealer fees + tax. Didn't buy though, just went to test drive.

That may be the biggest reason and the brand for that engine. I tried the 3.8L v6 with 6 speed man. For the price its a fun car.

True its a shock. I too don't know how they calculate these ratings. I know Kia and Hyundai is coming strong but still not comfortable to buy those over Nissan or many other popular brands below the list.

As per consumer reports reliability rating as of October 24, 2016 BMW is at #9, Nissan at #13. My personal preference for reliability is Toyota. Kmeeg.

Initially I too shopped for Camcorders but in the end for my use I just started using my mobile, DSLR, webcam. For documentary purpose I think a DSLR with wide angle lens is a really good option. But I do not recommend using in-build mic. There are few cheap wired / wireless / shotgun mics you can use. And read few articles about not using auto gain for the mic. Also you might need to learn little bit about movie settings in DSLR to get a good quality video, but if you are in hurry just dial to AUTO and shoot. Also editing is really important right? I just use Windows Movie Maker for my simple useage. Try it and see if its enough for your work. Also with mistakes I've learnt that even with small adjustments of lighting can produce lot of improvements. Its simple as in a party at home switching on all the lights available inside the house so camera image sensor has less work. In my case I use few options recording get-togethers / sing-a-song sessions for Facebook / Youtube type of videos. 1. (Most used) - My mobile (Samsung Note 5) - -- Easy autofocus, Not bad for average indoor low light, Mic quality is good. Enhancements - Get a headphone and mic splitter (I bought it from ebay for few $s) where I give the Aux out from the sound mixer. It provides really good quality but you need to control the Aux gain carefully else its too much. 2. (2nd most used) - DSLR - Cheapest setup I use - Nikon D5100 with Tokina 11-16mm Next setup - Nikon D610 with Nikon 24-85mm (Good for low light) For both these options I use the Mic in option and give Aux out from Mixer. -- Fixed focus (unless u have someone to focus) , Provide very good video and audio quality. 3. (Not used much) - Logitech C920 Webcam -- Good autofocus capability, Mic audio is good, very good light control for average indoor low light KMeeg.

Risk of caught in fire and Car Fire Extinguishers
kmeeg replied to shirand's topic in General Automotive
Choosing fire extinguisher for cars I would put more attention to the extinguisher type. Wrong type would spread the fire. But looking at the label make things easier to select the type. As per my understanding if the label says type A,B,C you are pretty much covered for Wood/paper + Liquids + Electrical. Also if you company provide fire drill / training and if you can get some hands-on training that is the best so you are practiced how to remove the safety pin and other basic operations like pressing the handle, where to hold, where to aim. May be bcos i'm not smart enough i learnt alot from the free training I had at office. These type of trainings will provide additional info also about different types of extinguishers and even by colour. If you don't have all that I think the best bet is to read the label and see atleast its good for Wood/paper + liquids. I normally use a brand called Kidde. ( Kidde Marine Fire Extinguisher ) as this is a dry chemical extinguisher and applicable for both home and auto. Hope this helps, KMeeg.- 13 replies

@Nam You can find lots of information under the same category "Car buying Information". For ex - KMeeg.

As @asanka_rg said, its would be better if you could buy a common car with good maintainability. My personal taste is Toyota as they are comparatively simple. See below link too. Looks like Lexus (a Toyota) & Toyota are in top positions of vehicle dependability.. http://www.jdpower.com/press-releases/2016-us-vehicle-dependability-study-vds Again this is just my opinion as a non-expert in vehicles, KMeeg.

With my experience I would go for Brandnew Viva elite. Don't know about the Axia but i'm sure it would be good too. I think from Kelisa time they produced comparatively good cars. Particularly when you buy a brandnew car from a reputed make / model (I'm not trying to compare Perodua with Toyota or Honda, what I meant was its better that some of the junk out there) you will be well off with surprise repairs as if something goes wrong it will be covered by the warranty. So slowly you can go for a better recon car from Toyota or Honda or any other good brand. This is just my thought.. KMeeg. PS - I know as some of the folks suggested there are lot of good used cars like FB15, Ek3, Ae110, honda city , Swift, Fit, March,etc... But you wouldn't know if any problem / repair would come or not right? I would also consider if I have a trusted person who can get down a good recon car (Prius, Aqua, Axio, Premio, Fit, Civic,etc..) Again, This is just what I think any many might disagree..

Matroska, My best guess is you don't feel any difference while driving on flat road in city in Colorado. I've used a 1.8L Corolla for office driving and had no issues. But when you reach an incline off city the smaller engine cars would run on high RPMs. As per my understanding the smallest engine you would get would be 1.6L on Hyundai Accent or Kia Soul and few more models in US. Even places like Pikes peak / Mount Evens (Both are at 14000 feet) I've seen small cars driven. You might get an idea about the vehicles you see on a drive to Mount Evens in CO from this video i recorded from my dashcam - (Sorry that video quality is not very good as I went late in the evening.) Looks like M4 has 2400mAh battery. I find really difficult to manage battery when listening to music even with GPS off and power saving on (Even with a 3000mAh battery). Just saw Samsung S7 active with whopping 4000mAh battery. Just thinking should i manage with 3000mAh battery connecting to the PC so battery wont die before leaving office or will the S7 active with 4000mAh will survive for about 8 hours of normal use. I think this would be cheaper than iPhone. On the other hand i wish android would do a better job in managing resources / battery right? Adding specs for S7 Active - S7 Active Specs KMeeg.

I believe the 2nd option is good for snow countries to prevent foaming ice on windshield. Unlike snow, ice is hard to remove from windshield. You have to put heater and wait until it gets little melted so that you can clean it without scratching the windshield. So some people use this, but its kinda messy when ice melts.. In my opinion it might not be practical in our country. 1. Theft problem. 2. When you remove it and store inside the car all the dust will be inside your car. right? Just a thought..

As for the sunshade what i did was; 1. Bought mac foil and suction cups 2. Mark the borders of the windshield with a marker 3. Cut the mac-foil along the borders 4. Cut a spacing for the rear view mirror 5. Cut few holes to fix the suction cups (Smallest possible so suction cups will be tight and solid) -- Optional - You can add a cloth border or plastic beeding for the borders. What i find good about this is unlike universal sun shades the windshield is 100% covered so it reduces heat quite alot. Down side is it would not fold neatly but I used to roll it and have a rubber band to store it when i'm not using it. PS - I would prefer not to have anything out side the car. KMeeg..

Same issue with Note 5. Have to keep GPS off else phone will be low batt before i finish work. I mostly use youtube for music listening at work. Mostly what i do now is connect cable to PC and have the phone screen on PC (Use sidesync which comes default with phone). PC mic and speaker (headset jack) will utilized by phone. Or else u can connect the headset to the phone too if you want to use connecting to phone. Since cable is connected it wont drain battery. In addition to S7 edge comes with 3600mAh battery it also comes with Android marshmallow right? So I have a friend who is using LG G4 which got the marshmallow update and he claims that the battery utilization is much better vs Lollipop. Also its nice to have S7 edge with Water and dust resistant form factor. Also want to test the new image sensor on its new camera.
