    Car Jerks

    1. Some symptoms on modern vehicles are difficult to diagnose unless with the aid of a diagnostic unit (scanner). Take your car to a good mechanic and get a diagnosis done. They might take the car for a spin with the scanner connected to the car so that the issue can be re-created and the values can be observed at that time. 2. Not sure about Sterling, but I guess there is no harm in getting a diagnosis done by them. Once they identify the issue, it's up to you to either select Sterling or another place for the repair. Hope this helps. Good luck!
  2. I hope with all the advice given above, you know now that this is not the ideal way to slow down a car. Especially in an emergency such as the one you've described. But to give you the benefit of the doubt, try to simulate this on an empty road. If the symptoms are the same, your brakes might need re-adjustment. Since you've mentioned Arangala road and if you're saying that this happened just once on that steep downhill stretch, this just might be a one time thing (unless it happens all the time).
  3. I guess a valid question at this stage would be: Did you step on both the clutch and brake pedals when you were forced to stop because the vehicle in front of you stopped suddenly (the situation when your van went zig zag)? A simple yes or no from OP would suffice.
  4. Good work! Tell us more on what you have done for the engine, suspension etc... The body seems to be in decent shape although I feel like there's a lot more to be done. Was the paint job done recently? I see a bit of rust under the front valance and the right fender. Also, what's up with the missing grille?
  5. Does sound like a leaky head gasket. Is this a manual? (Why I ask is because if you have auto, the transmission oil lines are also fed into the radiator).
  6. I see. You should be okay for now mate, but get it tightened to the correct tension again ASAP. Your belt will also stretch and wear out soon if it has been running like this for long.
  7. If the belts are over-tightened, the bearings attached to the components (AC, power steering pump, alternator) will wear out prematurely. A worn out bearing will definitely cause more friction and cause the engine to work under an added amount of load. This will definitely cause the engine temperature to fluctuate from normal. Also, the added strain on the engine will make the car feel under powered. If I remember correctly, trinity's AC compressor was far from working perfectly. The AC pulley was wobbling when the compressor clutch was engaged even though it was repaired once. Checking this first might be the best starting point IMO.
  8. The only thing I remember trying out was the "hot coffee" mod (or was it a cheat?) which unlocked all the hidden scenes with the girlfriends.
  9. Gosh Magnum, how do you remember the names so well? I remember the Vice City map and the mansion on the centre island. About the final mission, I remember it being a huge shoot out in the mansion. (reminded me of how the movie Scarface ended).
  10. The only ones I finished were GTA III, Vice City and San Andreas and out of those I like Vice City the most despite SA having an enormous map and a better story line. I remember Vice City having the coolest radio stations. I even extracted the radio station audio clips and used to play them in my car. EDIT: Here's my favourite radio channel from Vice City. An hour long clip with hilarious advertisements, a horny DJ and great music. But I totally loved San Andreas Multiplayer which I played with a few of my friends online for months on end. I actually stopped playing that only a few months ago. There was even a zombie apocalypse mod and that was superb! A group of us friends would meet up and form our own base and go scavenging for supplies, the thought of it makes me want to play that again. I never got the chance to play GTA IV. Since GTA V seems to be taking long, I might just try that out for the time being... once i finish Watch Dogs.
  11. X-Men: Days of Future Past Watched this a couple of days back and I think it has become my favourite in the sries because this movie opens up a new "time line" for more great X-Men movies. Most of the movie takes place back in 1973, when Wolverine is sent back through time to undo the mistakes both humans and mutants have made in the past, which has lead them to a never ending war. Good movie.
  12. +1 for engine/gearbox mounts. If this is the case, you should get the mounts replaced a soon as possible because it sounds like one or more mounts are totally gone.
  13. lol VVTi. You should reserve a spot under the 510's hood so that a decal of your name can be pasted. "Atha hitha VVTi gen"
  14. Sorry trinity I just saw this, replying while reading the others' posts. A quick answer to whether the fans are wired directly or not is that they are not directly wired. The fans are controlled by a two speed fan controller module. Will comment as I read the rest. EDIT: I believe VVTi, The Don and Rumesh88 have guided you in the correct direction already, so follow up on the cold start behaviour first and how long the fans take to kick in. Last time I checked, trinity's fans kicked in as soon as the AC came on, better make sure that this is the case still as The Don has said. My guess is that the ignition noise is something totally unrelated to the temperature issue. The ignition timing might be too low. Did our Dissanayake adjust your distributor when he did the tune-up and carb re-build? Also, were the drive belts replaced/tightened recently?
  15. 3. Since overclocking is out of the question here, I believe this doesn't matter anyway. 4. About Watch Dogs, yes even I experienced stutter when I initially ran the game and after about 30 minutes of driving around the city. After some looking around on the net, I found this same issue you've pointed out and there are workarounds for it such as increasing the size of the page file. Worked for me. The memory usage doesn't go beyond 6 gigs even after hours of playing and most importantly, there is no stutter. If we leave Watch Dogs alone and consider the fact that GTA V will be out soon, I highly doubt 4 gigs will be enough although system requirements has not been announced yet. Same story with Far Cry 4. 5. If the sole purpose of buying the PC is for gaming, then you're right. My view was that the performance gain would outweigh the few extra thousand bucks spent on RAM. But my experience was totally different when I switched RAM. I should try re-installing my RAM on the same channel to see if there is a difference.
  16. Thanks! The significance of plastic primer according to my knowledge is that it has properties that allow it to bond well to the plastic to prevent the paint being peeled off. Some delicate plastics need to be primed with this type of primer to prevent the plastic being warped by the thinner/other chemicals in the paint. I am not entirely sure if plastic primers have the capability to flex though. They do paint car bumpers and stuff after using plastic primer, so I believe they have some degree of flexibility.
  17. I haven't really finished the missions yet although you can pretty much do most of the stuff done in GTA (plus more like hacking into stuff). Not much of a track racing guy (although a hardcore Rally fan), so I'd go with Watch Dogs if I were you. Just my opinion. Plus, all the games are free!
  18. 1. Agreed. 2. The B85 chipset totally slipped my mind. Good suggestion. The B85-PRO GAMER board by Asus also seems to be good. 3. I have never used RAM other than Value RAM. Sticking to a good bus speed like 1866 will do the trick IMO. HyperX is over twice as more expensive. 4. I'm afraid I cannot agree on this one. Open your Task Manager and load Watch Dogs and you will see your RAM utilization cross the 4GB border in about 30 seconds. This is of course not to say that the game cannot be run on 4 gigs, it should run but loading and the overall performance will be drastically low. 5. Got a KVR 8 gig stick initially and opted for two 4 gig sticks (dual channel) on my PC and the difference was quite noticeable. 6. Yup, as I have mentioned in my original post, I am not familiar with what AMD has to offer. Thanks for pointing that out. Also, the better option for a hard drive would be the Western Digital BLACK and not the BLUE. Not sure about the price difference though. Got to agree with the two suggestions you've given on the shops. My recommendation would be RedLine, but I do not have experience with Eglobe. Shops in Unity suck and I cannot count the number of times I have had trouble claiming warranty on stuff.
  19. PC. Should consider buying an XBox/PS (when I collect some money).
  20. You'll need at least a Core i5 with 8Gb of RAM and something equivalent to a NVidia GTX 480 or GTX 570 or GTX 660. You're all set for a few more years if you go for a GTX 680 or better a GTX 770, but the prices are too high for your budget I guess. The CPU alone will cost you about 25K, You can go for a socket 1150 board with either a Z87 or Z97 chipset which will cost at least 15K. A full ATX board with all the bells and whistles for gaming (ex SLI support) will cost you about 25K. The graphics card will set you back another 25K - 30K minimum. You need 2 gigs of DDR5 video memory with at least 192 bit and importantly, DirectX 11 support. A GeForce GTX 660 is around 35K when I checked a few websites just now. Do a bit of digging online about the games you want to play and compare the graphics cards in the chart below (the vertical bar for the card you're buying should be between 250,000 - 300,000). I have always been a NVidia fan, so I am not sure about what AMD Radeon has to offer. Their prices are probably less. RAM: Regular RAM would work (Kingston Value RAM) but for better performance, you should go for high performance RAM. If you're going for 8GB, buy two sticks of 4GB RAM and plug them so that dual channel mode is activated. Not sure of RAM prices, but I guess 8 gigs will cost you close to 5K. Just a blind guess. To power everything, you'll need a good 500w power supply which will cost you around 7K minimum. A regular casing will cost you around 3K - 4K I guess. A good CoolerMaster casing will be around 15K. A 1TB hard disk drive goes for around 7K which will get the job done. You can go for an SSD for the OS drive if you have the cash to spare and it will definitely give you a huge performance boost that will come in handy when playing games. Their prices are really high though, you're looking at about 18K for a 120 gig SSD. Other peripherals (keyboard, mouse, optical drive etc.) will be about 5K. If you've got a monitor already, then fine. Otherwise you'll have to spend about 20K on a FullHD (1920 x 1080) monitor. I believe we have exceeded your budget even without the monitor. If you can stretch it a bit more, up to 120K, then you'll be all good. Hope this helps. Others, please correct me if I have over/under estimated anything.
  21. Yes, there are good torrents, but AutoLanka is not the place to share them. Quoting a previous post of mine:

Good but doesn't come close to GTA. It's got only a limited set of cars and the handling is sh!t. The map is alright and the missions are fun though.
  23. ROFL
  24. The Edge of Tomorrow: Good movie IMO after quite a while. Apocalypse, Time Travel, Alien Invasion in one great action packed movie. Loved every minute of it from start to end. I shouldn't spoil it by saying more. Here's the trailer:
  25. Damn, such a long wait!
