  1. Thanks. I got the heat gun from a tools shop in Panchikawattwe.
  2. While the fans running for longer is normal when the coolant has reached a certain temperature, the concern here is about a whirring sound which I think is perfectly okay to be concerned about, because sounds emitted before or after a vehicle is switched on/off is not really identical on every car.
  3. Really? How so? @Quiet, You may want to refer your owner's manual with regard to the whirring sound. Is this whirring sound coming from the engine as well?
  4. Most shark fins that comes originally from the factory actually serve a purpose. They're all antennas for the radio. Why Some Mazdas have it and others don't is because the ones that come with it have satellite radio I think. The others have the antenna built into the rear window. So pasting a plastic shark fin doesn't really do anything but maybe make the car look aesthetically better. The hatch already has an antenna on the roof, but not a shark fin. You can unscrew the antenna and replace it with functional shark fin if you want though,
  5. Nice car @Supra_Natural! Congrats! Two Mazdas at home now huh? By the way, 215/55R16 and 205/60R16 are the ideal replacement tyre sizes for your car because they have the least difference in diameter when compared to the factory wheel size. Not sure how easy it is to source these sizes locally though.
  6. Pretty sure you can get these by the bucket in Delkanda and other similar shops. Or buy online. eBay or Amayama.
  7. Congratulations! Glad to see more Mazdas on the forum. The new generation of all Mazdas are just awesome inside and out.
  8. Thanks iRage. Will definitely have a look. It's great to see people preserving these gems.
  9. Wow. A 1600 GSR! Saw a blue on on Facebook a couple of days back, but I think that one was a conversion. This looks like the real deal. I don't understand why this is funny though.
  10. Thank you @MADZ!
  11. If at any point the replacement stepper motors were cleaned before installation by spraying throttle body cleaner directly at them, there is a high chance that they would have failed due to that. Plunger type stepper motors are known to fail this way as the liquid runs into the motor housing and damages the coils inside. The recommended way is to clean the unit by spray throttle body cleaner to a clean rag and use that to clean the stepper motor. Just saying because it looks like you have gone through a couple of stepper motors without success. Our mechanics are known for spraying stuff directly on throttle bodies and electronic components. Also, if you have a workshop manual at hand, you can follow the procedure to check the voltage at the stepper motor connector (and the TPS connector if possible) to make sure the ECU is regulating the voltage properly. It should be a quite straightforward process.
  12. ↓↓↓↓ @88_NANA, Before blindly replacing the TPS, get a diagnosis done and observe the readings of the TPS and watch for "dead spots" when you press the accelerator pedal.
  13. I remember reading that they had performance issues and defects with their CVT which even lead to them having to face a lawsuit after which they had to settle claims for 64,000 cars. This just maybe one reason. Also, it's dual clutch. It doesn't have lagging issues of CVT, so it makes more sense for any performance oriented vehicle over CVT or conventional auto IMO.
  14. You haven't really answered my questions, but anyway, how long did you wait before shifting into gear? If you're not sure what to look for, just take a trustworthy mechanic or a friend who knows what to check. That's better than assuming the worst about a car that is actually a good one. But why? Isn't it much easier to find one with a RPM meter instead of going through the hassle of finding a gauge cluster, getting the mileage corrected and then figuring out the wiring if it doesn't work straight away? Be patient. It took me a month to find the right Demio. Although the basic ones spend a bit of time on the classifieds before being sold, the fully loaded ones go like hot cakes. The one I got was sold within a matter of hours after the ad was posted. I'm overseas, so there were added complications that you don't even have to deal with. I had to get my father to be on stand by, my family to receive the cash and manage it etc.
  15. Yes, it switches the cursor into the quote block instead of deleting it. I have the Helakuru keyboard installed, but not too keen using it all the time. I just switch to it whenever I need to type in Sinhala. The rest of the time I use SwiftKey which is the best one I've found so far. But it's good to know there is this kind of workaround for now at least. Thanks for that! I just checked Helakuru and I can confirm it works for me too.
  16. Hi @MADZ, Just a small question/issue I have observed on forums on mobile. I'm sharing this here just in case other members have also experienced this. It isn't seem to be possible to delete a quote block once it has been inserted into the text editor. I have been trying several things like pressing backspace, trying to select all and delete, trying to delete the text inside the quote etc, but none of these seem to work. On desktop however, there are three or four ways to do this and they all work as expected. How to re-produce issue on mobile: Press "Quote" link on any post in any thread Once the quote block is inserted into the text editor, try to remove it. Other info: Environment: Android 6.0.1, Chrome 55.0 (latest) Issue exists irrespective of which keyboard app used Issue exists on default Google Keyboard and SwiftKey keyboard but works on Helakuru keyboard I have Googled this a bit and found out that this might be an issue with IP Board itself. Please see link below. I have tried suggestions made in this thread and none of them seem to work. https://invisionpower.com/forums/topic/424666-quote-removal-still-no-good-in-41/ Just wondering if you guys are aware of this issue and if there is a workaround. Thanks in advance!
  17. Was the engine cold when you initially started it? Did you take it for a drive and observe if the RPM eventually settled down at about 700 when the engine became warm?
  18. Water inside the headlight and a replaced bumper is probably the result of a frontal, and a badly repaired one. He might be telling the truth about the bumper because this one has fog lamps and the basic version didn't come with them.
  19. There is speculation that it is a global call. [1]. As I have mentioned before, the current Lancer is actually an 8 year old car. There are no significant differences between the 2008 Lancer vs the 2017 Lancer. While other makes (Toyota for example) competing in this segment have released at least one new model within this period, the Lancer is the same old car. The Evo is a similar story. While Subaru has released 3 new Impreza STi models since 2007, The Evo X has been the same. Being an owner of 3 consecutive Mitsubishi Lancers, this is plain disappointing. I mean if their flagship compact sedan has not been given proper revision for nearly a decade with subsequent axing of the model, I'm not really sure if fans of the Evo and Lancer will stick around with Mitsubishi. We shall wait and see how the Renault + Nissan + Mitsubishi alliance with their EV crossover plan is implemented and received by customers. 1. http://www.caradvice.com.au/511605/mitsubishi-lancer-production-to-end-in-august-2017-report/
  20. Reiterating what has been discussed already, but HID was an option that came in on some special edition Demios as iRage has described here. So finding one will be a bit difficult IMO. These ones have 15 inch factory alloys, multi-function steering, RPM meter, HID headlamps, fog lamps and a CVT gearbox. Some of the basic ones have an RPM meter. If the steering rack is worn out, you should feel vibration through the steering when you go over a rough surface. On our Demio, there was a quite a bit of vibration on rough roads and the rack was repaired and it has been running for over a year without the issue recurring. Since you are a bit obsessed with this issue, it's better to avoid examples that display the least vibration. Being a car that is almost 10 years old, apart from a proper inspection, all you can rely on is proper maintenance/service records. There are guys like this who ruin their cars by using wrong ATF oils, so it's not the fault of the car but improper maintenance. Check the historical eco test reports to make sure the mileage has not been tampered with. Then again these are things you should check when purchasing any second hand car.
  21. From the perspective of a Demio owner: 1. If you did a search, you would have found the fuel economy of the Demio. It depends on your driving style so I'd say 10 km/l in the city average. The CVT version is slightly more economical. 2. The stuff that needs to be replaced on a car isn't really related to the year of manufacture. It depends on how the car was used (personal or commercial), how many kilometres on the ODO and importantly, the maintenance history. I'm not exactly sure how prices of spares of the two makes compare, but like the Swift, the Demio is a reliable car from personal experience. It has been nearly 3 years since the Demio in my family was purchased and we've done all the services on time + replaced a set of tyres and attended to a suspension repair once. The car has been doing about 40km a day for the past year or so. 3. I think all these rack issues depends on where and how the car was driven. Frequent drives on rough roads would cause the steering linkages to fail. I don't think the rack would need replacement if you attend to the suspension issues and get the steering links replaced before it gets worse and the rack is eventually affected. Our Demio was recently subject to a suspension repair and they could repair the rack without replacing it because it wasn't too far gone. I'm not surprised that a genuine rack costs that much, and if you call AM\/\/ and ask about the price of a Swift rack, I doubt the price will be drastically lower. If such a situation arises, you can even buy a reconditioned one for much less. Plus, you shouldn't be worried about replacing the rack of a car you haven't even purchased yet! The Demio thread in case you missed it.
  22. I took my car for the periodic service today and made it a point to ask one of the mechs about the ticking and the electric hum from the throttle body. The short answer was, they're both normal. A bit more detail: Apparently the ticking sound that is heard immediately after the ignition is turned on for a couple of seconds is the car doing a "power on self test". Mainly the ABS, EBD etc. The sound from the throttle body is heard from the electronic throttle as I suspected and it's normal and disappears after the car has been started. Hope this helps. A friend of mine who recently went to inspect a Lancer EX was concerned about the ticking noise and called me from where he was inspecting the car and asked me what the hell the noise is and if it's normal. He bought the car after I advised that it's all normal.
  23. Please search the forum.
  24. That's a good point. I didn't think of that at all.
  25. I have dialled it once on the Kandy road to report a critical accident, but the number was busy. Didn't expect that from an "emergency number". Someone else at the scene eventually got through to them, but by the time an ambulance arrived, the people had got together and transported the injured to hospital already. This was in 2013. I have heard similar incidents of people not being able to get through and the poor response time of ambulances and the fire dept. So I would say that it's not a reliable service (yet). Not even close to those of developed countries. Just my 2 cents.
