    Nissan Skyline

Suggest you search this forum- the car has been discussed before. I owned one myself and remember writing about it on this forum.
  2. Our household has a 2009 Dec Insight which we baught unregistered. Its now done 89,000 km's. Besides 1-2 battery cells going bad (there are plenty of places that do an easy and economical fix of this) - we've had no issues whatsover. Of course with such high mileage on our local roads the suspension needs an overhaul but other than that its been painless. We put it up for sale a few weeks ago - and there has been one or two interested buyers. I didn't expect it to be sold quickly but I don't think you can sell most used cars besides the Corolla 121'ns etc overnight. We found that fuel consumption fine- its does between 12-14 in Colombo. People who complain that's bad need to understand that the Insights were never going to do as well as the Prius. What I don't like is that lousy ride, handling, vague steering, CVT box and the engine which sounds like an old sewing machine when you put the pedal down. Also the driving position is horrible.
  3. there are pleanty of small timers who bring down parts from Singapore/Malaysia for the rarer JDM's. I don't see a problem. I can provide you with a contact if required.
  4. if I were you, I'd go for the lexus. Better creature comforts and far less common than the Monty Sport. Also more suited for the urban commute. You will definitely take a big hit on the depreciation- but no used vehicles besides the Corollas and the Premios are easy to sell nowadays with our see- saw vehicle market
  5. clarks'son- thanks. Prefer brand new at the moment- I know an Audi A4 or BMW E60 would be great- but just not at that phase in life where I have the time or the energy to really hunt or care for a good used Euro. Will do a bit more research- met someone over the weekend who has the car and he said it does about 10 km/l which is fine. 3 cylinder doesn't sound so rough at idle and when you give it beans it actually sounds quite lively and delivers a spirited driving experience - steering is not as good as Mazda3 but very easy to drive and crisp handling. As you said durability of Made in England in the 3 pot in Sri Lankan conditions is questionable- but I don't plan on using it for more than 3-4 years so not really worried. Bigger concern - is that this car will become another Vezel and be more common than tuk tuks- because there does seem to be a big demand for the car right now.
  6. Guys re-opening this topic as I am considering getting a honda civic 1.0 turbo as a daily drive. The Ex trim is loaded to the hilt and the reviews online for the 3 cylinder motor are positive saying its reasonably refined and has decent performance. Anyone owns one? How is the fuel economy seeing that it will be doing the rush hour school runs daily. Car sales guys say anything from 10-15 km/l. How is the ride on local roads with the 17 inch wheels and adaptive suspension?
  7. Does this happen at the same location? Have you tried putting in a new battery
  8. I used to get my mark x injector cleaning done at autoforce dehiwala. They did a brilliant job.
  9. don't own one but a very close friend had a 2004 Type S that he sold off about 3 years ago. Engine flooding was the biggest issue which was a pain to sort out as the car would not start. Lots of problems with the suspension as the cars run on 18'ns and with high mileage on them now they lots of wear and tear. Build quality on some of the early cars were also not great - lots of rattling and bits and bobs falling off. Electrical problems. I would not recommend one as a daily driver- as a weekend car, I wouldn't mind having one if I had deep pockets and time on my hands to keep it in top shape. Also very difficult to find one which hasn't been abused. Lots of these have been hacked by boy racers. But it was a fabulous car to drive - had loads of fun with it.
  10. agreed. A nicely maintained Euro or an Executive Jap car will always give you a sense of prestige no matter what the age is. Personally feel some of the older models have a bit more character than the newer ones as well
  11. Colonial claims they can install Navi with the local maps in all the new mazdas. There was an ad a few weeks ago. I called them up and they said they are offering it all inclusive for 60K and to bring the car in on a weekday to check. These are for cars with the Mazda Connect. I think the first gen 6's did not have this system- better check with them.
  12. also having done some research it seems there is not much difference in driving experience between the 1.6 mzr and 1.5 skyactiv. Both engines feel very similar. The big difference is the 6 speed skyactiv auto box which is smoother and more responsive than the old 4 speed auto. Of course you get loads of options on the JDM which is nice. Now a 2 litre skyactiv with a 6 speed manual box would be fun on that chasis!
  13. If you guys don't mind me asking what's the approx cost for the 1.5 litre axela to be imported directly? B/new Mazda3 is going at 9.5 mil nowadays I believe
  14. Interesting. I never thaught Camry would be in the same consideration set as Mark X. Especially the Hybrid model. When the new Lexus IS200t was launched I was thinking that would have been an interesting engine to drop into the Mark X to replace the ageing 2GR-FSE. I would have fancied getting one down in the future. Now I'll just have to save up for the rest of my life to afford an IS :-)
  15. well this was on the cards for a long time. i believe the mark x has sold less and less units in japan since its introduction and overlaps with a lot of their other cars- Crown, Lexus IS and GS. They were talking about killing it off many years ago. Personally I liked the 1st generation model the best- the newer versions looked like they were trying too hard. They were also de-tuning the engines so the throttle response was softer. I had a 1st generation Mark x S package which I had to part with a few years ago. That car still looks great and apart from a slightly vague steering feel and spongy brakes it was very much a decent drivers car.
  16. Quiet- you can get touch up pens from e bay for your 6. They have all the colours and are not costly either. Does a decent job of hiding minor scratches
  17. i use turtle wax bug and tar remover. not sure if its available here but picked up a bottle when I was in Singapore. Works like a charm.
  18. well from what I gather there are 2 different issues. One is a caliper pin bushing which starts rattling - that can be sorted out at a lathe shop and colonial is doing it on a lot of the cars. I think this is more due our bad roads more than anything else. The other noise is from the below (qouting from a TSB bulletin which says this is the problem on the 3's and 6's.) Will probably take this and show the agents: MULTI-MODEL - KNOCKING / SQUEAKING NOISE FROM FRONT STRUT BEARING Some vehicles may exhibit a knocking / squeaking noise from the front strut bearing (A) when driving on rough roads and/or when turning the steering wheel while the vehicle is stopped. The noise may be due to upper front strut bearing damage or it may be due to stick/slip between the front strut bearing and coil spring. To eliminate the noise, the following mass-production changes have been made: 1. The material and production method of the front strut bearing has been changed. 2. A protector has been installed onto the coil spring. NOTE: The piston rod nut (B) requires replacement when the front strut bearing is replaced. Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.
  19. Supra/Car lover or anyone who owns a new 6,3 or 2 Dug up this thread because you guys had suspension issues on your cars. I had the same knocking sound going over speed bumps which turned out to be a bad shock mount. This was sorted under warranty but a few weeks later the sound is back. When you Google 'mazda3 or mazda6 2014 suspension noises' this seems to be a common issue on the new mazdas. Was your issue sorted permanantly- and if so what did Col*nial Motors do to fix it? Going to have to take the car back their again- but I am now out of warranty! A friend of mine has a new 2 and she also has the same problem- so its definitely not an isolated case!
  20. i really don't know mate. It depends on the car I guess. In the case of the mazda3 and axela - the agents only imported the 1.6 petrol which wasn't a fully loaded car, as opposed to the axela 2.0 hybrid which was at the local car sales that had all the bells and whistles I have no idea what the price difference between the 2 were. Preferred to go for the brand new with the warranty and no regrets. Especially since I had a couple of issues with the infotainment system and the suspension, both which were sorted out under warranty and could have been costly fixes otherwise.
  21. this was brand new from colonial. it was one of the first 2 cars that came to SL car sales mostly got down the hybrid versions
  22. really? I baught mine for 5.4 in 2014 and even then I felt the car was overpriced!
  23. thats because of our insane duty structure. its the same with the current gen Mazda3. Its sold with the old 1.6 MZR instead of the 2.0 Skyactiv which is the standard engine in other markets
  24. I think this was one of the few facelifted V35's that made it to Sri Lankan shores. I remember seing it parked in the Wellawatte area many times when it first came down and it always looked in mint condition. If so some of the issues on the pre-faceifted model was rectified in later models- such as the faulty CD changer etc you mentioned the steering was comparatively heavy- if you are used to the EPS rack you may feel that way. The steering in the v35 is an old hydraulic setup and has a very meaty feel to it. But get it checked out. Transmission is not the smoothest either - its a traditional automatic and not a fancy CVT but its not bad. Let us know how it goes
  25. no idea mate. car is still new so i don't expect there to be too many problems for a few years
