Today while I was driving I was using my phone's speaker function to make a call. The phone was on the center console box but I was keeping one hand on it while making the call. I was stopped by a cop at Kottawa junction and told that he's charging me for keeping the phone in my hand. He also told that I will have to go to courts and the fine will be 5000 Rs, and also suggested that I could avoid that if I pay him 2500 Rs. Since its against my principles to entertain corrupt cops I said will go to courts and pay that fine. While on the way I tried to report that cop to the Kottawa police station but the big boss was out. I know I don't have enough evidence but is there a way to bust that cop. And is it really against the law to use handsfree function, I know I was keeping my hand on the phone and the cop probably saw me talking and not the phone.

Lot of things have changed during the last year.Even the mentality of some people . Anyway FYI toyota Lanka advertised recently that they are fully equipped to handle hybrid maintenance. I had a chat with one of the supervisers there (at Maharagama branch) and he and few other guys had actually been to Japan for specialised training. Apparently he has stripped down a 3rd gen prius. But having said that I have to admitt still they have a lot to learn that comes only with experiance.

As for me the HV battery is the least of my worries. It's The auxiliary 12v battery which will die after 5 years. Recently I did a general inspection of my car at Toyota Lanka. The inspection covered comprehensive analysis of the hybrid system as well as mechanical parts. My car is 4 years old and both batteries are still healthy.

I was refering to the coolant pump failure of 2nd gen models upto 2007, and the ABS software malfunction of gen3 models built after 2010. You can find more about these if you do a search. Also go through few other websites also and do a thorough search. It's now possible to know your car inside and out even before buying it.

As a Prius gen2 user I can comment only on this. Fuel economy combined 21km/l. Maintenance is almost same or less than conventional vehicles since it's hybrid system is very reliable. There are few places which bring down spare parts. And few places to do maintanance including toyota lanka. Resale value is high at the moment as there is a big demand. There are very few known issues related to the hybrid system.

I have a feeling that the taxes on those hiace and caravans are going to come down. There's the tell-tale signs in the hitad today.

There's one aircraft which circles around rathmalana area at low altitude couple of days a week. Think it's a training flight and sounds exactly like a flying Leyland bus .major sound pollution.

They should remove the horns from all the private buses permanantly, and must do something about the silencers of those Leyland buses.

Gemini has a very low second hand value. My brother owned one few years back and he sold it for peanuts after one year.So if you are not planning to use it for very long time don't buy one.

Some time back the vet faculty at peradeniya did sterilizing of stray dogs in the kandy city area as a pilot project. It was a more humane way than killing them. If the GOSL can implement this in other areas the stray dog menace can be controlled IMO.
