    Vw Jetta

I second that based on personal experience. Plus you have the advantage of observing the work being done. That kind of thing is not looked upon favorably at the agents !

    Who is 'They' ?
  3. Congratulations mate... good choice
  4. Some good folks you've got there. very rare commodity in this day and age.
  5. I know its hard but ROCK HARD means something is not right Did you use a new clutch kit when doing the restoration ?. Fitting new master and slave pumps & hose and lubing the clutch return spring can give some mild releif if its really that bad. On the plus side you do get a really strong left leg

    Diesel Standards

Modern common rails would benefit if they had ultra low sulfur diesel (ULSD), with a sulfur content between 10 - 50 ppm. Might be quite a long wait before we get that though...

    Diesel Standards

As per the CPC specs auto diesel is 3000ppm and super diesel is 500ppm http://www.ceypetco.gov.lk/Ceypetco_Products.htm
  8. Ruwan - 773099281 Tell him you got his number from autolanka forum.
  9. For the manual what you get is 5 Speed AFAIK. For starters the following guide can be helpful http://forum.autolanka.com/topic/3430-how-to-buy-a-used-car-in-sri-lanka/?hl=%2Bbuying+%2Bguide Specific to the model your looking at 1. Full service history would be essential 2. Get a full inspection done by the independant specialist or agents 3. Try out all the electrical options to see whether they are in working order. As some of them can be very expensive to replace. 4. On some engine codes, the water pump is driven by the Timing belt and should be replaced along with the Tbelt at 60K. If only the Tbelt has been replaced then its essential to replace the water pump if milage more than this !
  10. Its a scam that has been going around for quite some time. just do a search for HHO scam. You can find loads of links debunking this like http://wiki.answers....ork_on_vehicles Earlier this was called "Run your car on water" now i suppose even the scammers have got on the 'Hybrid' bandwagon
  11. Heard the chassis is a SIII
  12. by the way you call it "air" not "wind"
  13. The hose on my unit has split near the connection to the main unit. I suppose one can cut the hose and use the good part (part to be cut is < 5 cm) and then fix the locking nut at the new edge (looks like the hose end is crimped to the nut section). Anyone know where I can get the hose repaired ? oh and the brand is WIPRO
  14. I use one as a daily runner and haven't been dissapointed. Just like any other vehicle problems will crop up, when they do, if good quality parts are used and knowledgeable hands attend to it there is no issue. Also goes without saying that routine and preventive maintenance should be carried out diligently. Parts can be expensive if you only source from main stealers. E bay is a good alternative for small & medium stuff. One of the weak points is the clutch cylinders... tend to leak ever so often. But the replacements are not that pricey and replacement is a simple DIY. It might have something to do with the brand of brake oil used as IIRC the manual says use only Castrol... I havent used it and have been using Lockheed from day 1. Next time I will switch to castrol and see whether there is actually a difference. Engine wise upto 300Tdi, very simple and economical.. TD5 onwards it starts getting pricey... But its not for every one.... if you want a quite, comfortable, easy, sedate ride with no surprises, then forget it... then again if you're a bit of the adventurous and mechanically inclined kind... well then... by all means go for it.
  15. The 300Tdi defender clutch pedal is considerably easier to use than the 12J & 200Tdi clutches. If you can find a 300Tdi clutch pedal (complete unit), its a direct fit on the bulkhead. Still not as easy as jap clutch but far easier to use.
  16. If i recall correctly in sri lanka only lorry's and buses need a annual road worthiness certificate at the time of revenue license renewal. IF that is still the case, i think the system is being abused ... looking at the number of un-roadworthy vehicles of the same class plying our roads. IF (and its a very big IF) it can be done correctly, it wouldn't be a bad idea to make it compulsory for all vehicles.
  17. Dunno whether any of you have seen this already..... anyway here goes.... The Department of Motor traffic has introduced a new service.... Its one where you can pay money and get your vehicle number 'mucked' up. Enjoy....
  18. Objective was not to slander or ridicule anybody. What RRP does with his landy is his business entirely. Idea was to communicate that the situation at hand was not a drastic one, especially considering the brand purchased and what most users do with it. There are quite a lot of unacceptable things (other than agents behaviour) happening these days which is out of ones control. Eigther you can split hairs and end up losing some more.. or make the best out of the situation.
  19. Height of optimism in this day and age. dude, agents are a necessary evil in getting down the vehicle, and as Vvti has earlier pointed out with the newer landys, you need them more than they need you. @RRPhantom - Save your energy for the many battles ahead without wasting it on a issue like this which can be sorted out with a bit of common sense.
  20. Its about being realistic, why do you want to reject the vehicle because of a few dents/scratches that generally occur in shipment/clearing. The intelligent thing is to understand that these things happen and get the agent to repair it locally and take the vehicle. I think it would be a very very long shot to ask the agent for brand new panels and get them. The part about character was said in general about land rover ownership these days... lets say RRPhantom decides to take the landy out on a bit of softcore offroading (say minneriya or yala block 1... sticking to the normal trails...), he's sure to pick up a few scratches at least.... now what, bring it back to 100% original quality.... ? if you haven't got it yet let me be very clear... if you own a land rover and you use it like a land rover is meant to be used... and if you haven't got any dents/scratches on it already, you are guaranteed to get them some day..
  21. Very true. Sad to observe some of the new breed of LR owners (defenders included) not getting the 'character' part

No.. no japs for me. settled my sights on A6 (C5) Tdi and hunting around.... Commitment wise not a problem as I know what your talking about since my daily runner is the landy

    Clutch Pedal !!!

If the lubricating works only temporally, then the long term solution would be to identify the part (bush, return spring etc..) that is causing the sound and replace it. (unless you learn to live with the sound + constant lubrication) I am not sure whether your car's clutch pedal has a return spring, Which is what I found out was causing the same squeaky pedal on my landy. 6 years of intermittent lubing (wd40, rubber grease, auto grease and elbow grease ) didn't cure it completely till the day the spring broke !... now its like a dream no squeak at all
