Can someone let me know the pros and cons of buying buying a Trad Sunny (88-89 model )vs Proton (95-98 based on Lancer Cb series) vs the Ford Laser 1990 to 1994 model) I need to know the reliability/durability of these cars especlialy the Proton and Ford as Trad Sunny has already been discussed,spare part availability,re-sale value,ride comfort and fuel consumption too is of importance very importanlty whats the market prices for these cars now? as each comes with several variations (full light and half light for Trad Sunny) Carb and EFI for the Proton and Full semi option for the Ford

  6. Good to know that you had a great trip man God willing i too hope to do that trip in a coule of weeks time but in a much much older car ! Do you advice me to take the Cmb-puttalam route and not Dambulla road? how long did it take to come to back to colombo from Jaffna? the rice your refering to is the brown rice rich which is supposed to be good for health and locally grown i think its called 'nadu' rice if im not mistaken

  8. From experience I feel that if the carb is really messed up then you might need to get a recon one as i had the same issue and no one could sort it hence had to buy another one,most mechanics promise the sun and moon and after spending a few 1000's of Rs the problem is was still there

Thank you Sylvi God willing Im also planning a road trip there How about Colombo - Wennapuwa- A'pura route? i have not done that so cant say much Say if im leaving early morning which is better Colombo Damabulla Jaffna or the Puttalam road? also any members who have done the route please let me know about good tasty food joints,im not asking for fancy joints but hygenic places with authentic food and places where I can buy mangoes/jack fruit ,curd or local delicacies

  11. Delkanda is the best bet followed by US Motors in Hill Street Dehiwela,bargain and haggle a bit when you buy dont pay the price they ask for,it works most of the time
  12. talking of Holdens i remember my uncle borrowing his friends Holden (when i was a kid) which was originally brought down for the summit,it was a 5 sri one and Maroon with white hood,very comfortable and spacious inside and im not mistaken it was an auto tranny car ,the downside was the ground clearance being very low

  15. yes rigid axle all the 'I' light 'L' light 'flat light' and 'tube light' lancers have the same suspension

  21. great post Sylvi than you I remember seeign the VW Beetle taxis as late as 1991 in front of Mount Lavinia Supermarket and Morris Minors till mid 90's in Colombo as taxis ,the VW Beetle was black with yellow hood I have heard about Ranjani taxi cabs as there was an infamous murder case involving their taxi Yes your right Jaffna had many Austins and Morris's and still do if im not mistaken Does anyone have knowledge and or pics of old Police cars in Ceylon/Sri Lanka from Colonial era to 1990's,I remember only seeing Peugeots 404 as the oldest cop car when i was a kid
  22. looking forward to it mate and btw well done to you and ur dad for kpeeing it in such good nick what type of radio/cd does it have ,you could fix a good one to enhance the quality of the car and its something that wont compromise on anything you could try 4 speakers too but if i were you i wont cut the door boards but try to fix under the dash board (front ones)
  23. also to add Triumph Herald and Standard 10 and Standard Vanguard cars were imported and sold by Brown and Co and stokced spares till mid 80's any info on Triumph Herald history and stories in Ceylon/Sri Lanka most welcome with pics if possible Renaults were imported and sold by CNT or CMT Motors ( i could be wrong here) Lloyd Alexandar TS (West German) were with Dimos
