  1. im not an expert on this model but i have not heard anything negative about it,one eason it was not that popular was that its production period was short compared to the previous Lancers like the BOX and C12/C11 series apart from that seems to be a good car, maybe others in AL can comment more about this
  2. even in Jaffna body parts may be an issue as those guys harldy throw them away and repair all those damaged wings and doors and re-use them, only thing is if he can find an abandoned car there where owners have lost interest but that too is unlikely as i hear that scrap iron is in great demand there and traders from south pay good prices for them hence sadly many a rotting classic would have gone
  3. mate these are damm solid cars and whi h i have seen on european motorways too so E01 is nothing for them,my only worry is some idiotic moron might damage ur cars by driving their wanna be race cars recklessly!
  4. Unless your sure of your own driving capabilities and the roadworthiness of your car dont get on that highway!
  5. yes in a foriegn country they would have charged you for the extra trip that they made to bring the correct wheel brace!
  6. why are their buses driven badly? only once treavelled in them that trip was ok though
  7. I have to agree with Mini on this out chas try to avoid a dog and can kill or worse maim humans in the process
  8. hi Rameez,I dont think there is any law against older cars being driven on E01,BUT please ensure that your Lancer is fully roadworthy and dont endanger other peoples lives,as a fellow Lancer driver I do know for a fact that the saloon version of your wagon tends to get unsteady at high speeds Does your seat belt work? how good is ur suspsnsion and tires (u dont want the tire bursting at 90kmph or the suspension giving way do u ?) if all those are fine then I see no problem as long as you drive within the limits of the age of that car
  9. Cortinas are good cars but look out for corrosion as they are famous for it,you wont find one thats 100% rust free but then hey your into restoring them right! just make sure that the corrosion is repairable and the body is not out of shape yes a MK2 is fine, you might also like to look at any Ford Escorts too if they are for sale
  10. yes i remember them Sylvi as in the 2000's i dont think they were evne started as they didnt look in good health when you passed that way,he had a big Packard car which he had sold a few years back to a well known garage owner in Col 5 its a huge mighty beast
  11. Welcome to the forum machan 1st of all if your a new timer to restoring classic cars then I suggest that you do your homework on the availabiltiy of parts and the costs involved before buyinh a car also take note of the expertise needed to restore as not all mechanics can do it,some fellows specialise only in one make (eg: VW bass ) I personally suggest that you leaved aside Beamers for now and look at Cortinas (they do get advertised in sunday papers) or a old Morris Minor (split windscreen) or VW Beetle, even a Peugeot 203 is good as these are failrly easy to repair and parts are still found in Maradana (only exception being the Peugeot 203 but that to can be sourced from the 'watte' if you search well) Well then Good luck pal and keep us posted and hope the other experts in AL too will give their opinion on this
  12. dont worry man you can find parts easily even for the olde flat light lancers so CB 8 is nothing to worry about! good luck dude
  13. wow 18 kmpl is great machan, whats the longest trip you had done in the old car?
  14. @Sumiya,how much does this new Nissan addition do on fuel per km? with and w/o A/C? i sent u a pm pls check it
  15. congrats on your new buy Sumiya seems to be in original shape without cataloy (hope im right) hows the engine condition and does the AC cool well? are you a Nissan/Datsun fan?
  16. This is a common thing sellers use and camoflage worn out engines and sell it off,5/10 times they succeed in selling it off,I hear they use a higher grade of engine oil or additives to make it smoke less (correct me if im wrong)
  17. The road is ok but certain areas not carpeted especially near Jaffna but work is going on,i suggest you drive during the day as at night you get a load of lorries and vans buzzing at crazy speeds, besides which in case of a flat tyre you dont want to change it during the dark right!
  18. @ Sifaan ,yes i saw that advert for petrol from CPC too,i was thinking that it could be that low standard fuel too, never ever seen a tender to sell petrol from CPC before!

    Ke 72

Personally I dont like Wagons hence never thought of buying one I have known many people who owned the K72 wagon and yet to find someone complaining about the car,its very hardy and parts easily available too, pulls well and fuel efficient too The downside is that inside its very basic since its a rear wheel drive so the prop shaft hump makes is very uncomfartable for the 3rd person in the back seat, the dashboard is basic and does not have an RPM meter Price wise the low roof ones are 300 upwards and the high roof ones (late 15 sri upwards ) can be 425 and above in good condition (correct me if im wrong)
  20. I agree its nothing like good ole' Lanka ! Im afraid you will have to scrap the idea of that Volvo mate, its not worth the hassle at all
  21. may not be worth the hassle in bringin it down espcially when parts can be a problem ,if i were you i wont bring it,btw how long are you here for? coz if its for a short time (1-2 years) then its best you keep your Volvo there in the UK and use it when your back there again as selling it in UK will be a loss to due to the deprciation in used car values
  22. machan please avoid 5,6 and 8 it can be frustrating, expensive, time consuming (at some garages) and not worth it,hey ur trying for a 98 model Ford and these repairs are not worth unless ur getting the car really cheap
  23. this scheme does not make any sense at all!
  24. what an idiot to crash like that and if the story about the driver being unlicensed is true then it comes down to bad parenting,a breakdown in family values.Imagine if the guy had mowed down a bunch of kids at a zebra crossing or ploughed into people, parents have to take responsibility for this, having money and a luxury/fast car does not mean a thing when you dont have any values or respect for law
  25. should be possible but can he get a good one that has not been hacked? also how about parts and stuff? im not quite familiar with this car
