  1. Sylvi, you are quite correct. But what D*MO is saying is they HAVE the properly qualified technicians , apparently trained abroad.
  2. I think you have got it wrong yet again... I have NOT changed may tune. I strongly believe that Hybrids WILL succeed in Sri Lanka, and I stand by what I said. It does not mean that I love hybrids ( Prius or Insight) or will buy one anytime soon. But the future is changing, have a look at the below list of Hybrids, there is one expected to get to 60mph in 2.5 !!! and its only going to get better. http://greensupercar.com/category/hybrid-sport-cars/ http://inhabitat.com/jaguar-confirms-plans-to-build-fastest-jaguar-ever-hybrid-cx75-supercar/ There is no other substitute for faster power transfer than electric power. Thats why almost all major car manufactures are working on hybrids and spending millions of $ on fine tuning the hybrid, and even looking at 100% electric cars.
  3. Think the main idea is to reduce unnecessary weight... But in most instances ( unless it happens suddenly) we are able to get to a tyre shop ( plenty around Colombo) before doing too much damage to the tyre. I have made it a habit to always have a look at the 4 tyres before driving off.
  4. Think CyRax is asking about the picture...
  5. A lot depends on the type of work u use one. For example if the car is driven mainly for the school run, lot of traffic the most important aspect would be safety, and power or 0 - 60 numbers are not that relevant.
  6. Well.. then the Abans one is actually good ? If it worked for 15 years that says a lot..
  7. There will be lot of that smoke/vapour ? coming from dry ice right ? so that could be the normal ice...
  8. Gotten out of the wrong side of the bed ? or too much "wind" coming up yours my friend ??? There are certain occasions when one could use a bike, like Peri has mentioned if your office has a gym/shower facility you maybe able to use it, but it will also depend on how far you are from work also how fit you are... When I say "we should all buy a bike" , and put that nice yellow face with a smile it means I am not serious....
  9. But what if you find out that your pistons are gone and it not only the rings ? It maybe difficult to say without taking it apart, so if you need to replace you have no choice...

    Nissan Navara

About 3 weeks back I saw a Navara for sale it looked really nice so had a look, but the underneath was shocking and covered in rust . I wish I had taken a picture of it. The car sale guy said the same old salt issue, but I think it may also have something to do with the way the anti rust coating is put in Thailand maybe ? Also to the OP in case the UK cab has a tow bar it maybe proof that the cab has been working hard. So the engine wear maybe more although it will be just under 50k Kms.
  11. Priyanka, The method of calculating the custom duty is fixed, I agree there are taxes on taxes but all of this has been incorporated in to the spread sheet so there is nothing complicated. But what I don't know is the exact amount of customs & excise duty % that will apply, since this will depend on the HS code ( And will change depending on the type of vehicle or purpose for which it was imported ) Although the most car importers may under value invoices this is a criminal offence, and there have been instances where a few importer were taken to task for doing this, or importing vehicles under wrong HS codes by bribing customs officers. I personally think taking such risks is not worth it if you are a individual. Trying to save a few thousand rupees will end up in bigger mess. Also if you under value, how exactly will you remit the difference back to the supplier ? This will be a exchange control violation. I dont say people don't do it but its at the risk of getting caught..
  12. Thanks Sylvi, I will check out your place KBN Enterprises. I am just looking for one for home use.
  13. You know what I think , we should all buy a bicycle..... But seriously last week Saturday there was this foreign guy on a mountain bike who was traveling along side me all the way from Horton place to Kotte. Had no idea where the guy was going but it just goes to prove that a cycling is as fast as driving a car to work ( given the color lights and traffic). And mind you this was Saturday evening with less traffic, If you rode a bike to work during the morning rush hour I am sure that you could save a lot of time, also its a pretty good work out AND you don't spend a cent on fuel. Actually I now use a bike to run short errands instead of taking out the car for very short distances, its quite fun as well...
  14. Saw a ad in last weeks papers on the Toyota Aqua, the car looks very nice, and much better looking than the Insight or the Prius. Also the cost should be lower. Heard it does 30kmpl !! , also something like 100bhp, and about half of the power from the electric motor so the pick up should be good right ? I think this car will really catch on, especially after yesterdays petrol hike.
  15. I have seen Abans advertising one, seems like its a good brand as well any idea ? Also whats the psi compared to the normal pipe water pressure ? I dont have one of these but the water pressure where I stay seems to be quite good, so not sure if this will be a major benefit .
  16. Go to http://www.customs.gov.lk/ and click on the tariff calculator, it will give u a excel spreadsheet.
  17. You have read a insurance policy beginning to end, but you cannot write 3 lines properly.....
  18. Thats possible, a Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.7 lt V8 does just under 5kmpl... The Land Cruiser has a smaller V8 ?
  19. I never knew there was any limit on the third party cover, since its a legal requirement to ensure that a innocent third party does not suffer any loss, so you cannot cap that loss without knowing what the loss will be. Like the case where the stupid driver smashed in to the BMW showroom... Maybe a good idea to read the full policy document, but I may need to get a set of specs as the print is sooo small ..... Planing on getting on the E01 next week.
  20. Btw did that US guy capture the event, if so we maybe able to see it on is Youtube site.... ?
  21. 3 kmpl for a Prodo ? I think you have got it wrong, I seriously doubt a Prado does so little. A Sahara, maybe if it on bumper to bumber traffic...
  22. There are somethings that simply cannot be done at the same time, and owning a B4 & trying to save on fuel is one of them.... Energy crisis ? tell me the last day you have full days power cut or had a situation where there was no fuel or gas . I don't think its right of you to simply say the system is messed up, running a country and balancing the economy is not that easy. I am no supporter of the monarchy , but they are trying to do something. Lot of us just like to sit back and criticize everything but most of us Sri Lankans idle ( Including myself who is typing on A/L on company time), you see guys in offices/factories everywhere the guys do only half of their full potential but expect to be paid enough as if this was the US. I have seen exact same factories in Malaysia where the productivity is almost double to what our guys do. It was inevitable the fuel was going up due to the world oil prices , also due to the rupee depreciation. As long as the GOSL continues to subsidize Diesel, you are not letting the market forces to act correctly. Plus to subsidize diesel the GOSL has to tax someone else, a lot of us now cannot even remember there was a significant reduction in PAYE tax,
  23. The Indian guys handling the ad campaign for this vehicle are really stupid..... If anyone has seen that carrot ad you will know what I am talking about....
  24. Your answer is not very clear, what I am asking is " Give me a name of a insurance company that has paid the FULL amount without a deduction " , I am sure you will know this or have access to this information since you work for the RDA as claimed. Just give a name that's all dude..
  25. I don't see any point in you continuing to argue on this, your point is "speeding kills" but what everyone else is trying to say is its not ONLY speed but other factors such as drivers skill, road condition etc...etc.. So just let it go. But since you are working for the RDA let me ask you a more specific question. I heard the guy involved in the first accident was charged something like Rs 500k for the fence, but in another case ( discussed here on a different thread) the insurance ( Ceylin*o) had not paid the full amount claimed by the Govt for the fence. As per what I know insurance should pay for the full cost of the third party damage. Can you confirm if there has been any case where any insurance company has paid the FULL damage without any deduction, if so please let me know the name of the insurance company so I can transfer my policy to them.... Its a serious issue if such a loss is not covered so I dont want to take any chances...
